I work on a lot of these older trucks and didn't know the 460 was still available in 85. Until I encountered a F250 identical to this one, yesterday. LMC sells good parts for them. But Dennis Carpenter is the best. They actually buy the original tooling equipment direct from Ford. Once its obsolete and they discontinue it. With LMC parts, I've encountered things like bolt holes not lining up. Or body parts just not fitting right. But either place has literally anything you need. To completely rebuild this truck.
My 84 F250 460 had a carb fire (long time ago, previous owner)... it runs! But I needed a video like this to backwards engineer whats needed and what's not. Everything, vac hoses, wires, part of the carb are all melted. A testament to how tough these engines are. Thanks!
About to buy an 86 F250 farm truck, Had my list of things to do like Holley Carb, Emissions delete, Dual exhaust etc. Went to go see it in person yesterday & they already did everything.
I would not have bought If I had known about all the fuel related issues. I spent more time fixing than driving. I always felt insecure about reliability. Sold the truck quite a while ago. It was in too good of shape to use it as a truck. I ended up buying a square body. No fuel issues. Each vehicle has its own set of quirks. That era of Ford had more quirks than other brands
I did the kickdown linkage mod as well. Instead of welding, I used a small rectangular steel plate that was bolted to the kickdown rod, and the rectangular plate swiveled on the edelbrock linkage. It is wierd that it needs that angle. If you let the actual rod swivel on the edelbrock linkage it doesn't work but this rectangular plate makes it. I never understood why.
I did the kickdown rod mod on 1 truck, on subsequent trucks I just got rid of it. Unless you are towing you will not even miss that kickdown with a 460. On lesser motors like a 302 that kickdown is a must have to keep up with traffic, lol
becerro37 it’s been awhile and sold the truck but..... I left the egr/plate and unplugged the vacuum line. I think I welded it closed but you could probably use the high heat jb weld.
Did you have to buy an adapter plate to bolt the edelbrock to the stock 460 manifold? I have an 87 f250 with the 460 and it has the stock Holley carb that I want to ditch and replace with the edelbrock
For Some reason the video doesn’t show up with your comment. If it’s the Edelbrock carb swap video then I show the adapter plate with part number at the beginning. If it’s not that video then yes you need an edelbrock adapter.
Working on a f250 460 engine. It has the same egr as the one your working with. While working on it that branded those at 3:18 mark in the video broke on me. What would you suggest to do with fixing it? Also what would you suggest to do with the plate and hoses there attached to.
I don’t have the truck anymore so I can’t go out and take a look. I either made a block off plate Out of aluminum or JB welded the holes. I don’t remember, that was quite a while ago.
Hello. Could you tell me what tubes are attached/detached from air filter housing, please? Our was installed backwards and stuff hanging everywhere. Thank you.
Sorry, I for some reason don’t get notifications of comments. I believe that I put a T in the vacuum modulator line to the air cleaner. You don’t need the stuff but you need to open the flap (or take out)at the end of of air cleaner housing. May be harder to start when cold.
@@zmurray9499 Thank you. We've only had our unit, a 1986 E350 Vanguard, for 3 weeks. So, it's a learning curve for the coach and motor things. It has a Holley 4150 670 cfm installed and the cat removed and the air filter assembly was on 180, not even attached to the stove pipe. With some free lines. Should I plug the 2 ports on the air filter cannister on what should be the passenger side? They're about 1/2" ID. We're working on emissions deletion but want to keep the EGR.
Genevieve Lizee I would and did leave the lines going to the air cleaner housing( just to help cold starting). The 1980 to 86’s are more complicated and troublesome than a carbureted vehicle should be.
Genevieve Lizee there is a vacuum line going to it. Suck on the vacuum line and make sure the Egr valve is opening and closing. Sometimes the valve sticks open and it will have an erratic idle etc. if ok then cap the vacuum line at its source. Or just leave it hooked up.
Did you desmog your '86? I just purchased 86 F250 460 4 speed - Looking to do the same & put timing chain back to straight up & also do manual fuel pump- Looking for any advice from anyone who could give some info about desmogging their 460- Thanks, jack @@rdub907
I hope the EPA doesn't see this video. LOL because this guy is gonna get a huge penalty maybe even jail time. Lol great confession video. Great court evidence!
