It is an unbelievable technique. "Nu!?" His attacking body is on the verge of death. His fingers are broken, his limbs are slashed, and his breathing has stopped without him even realizing it. His speed is nothing, and his attack is mediocre. The boy that has absorbed his combat skills to the point where he's able to fight decently, has now returned to fighting without them. An unskilled, frantic attack. ...But still... This blow is heavier than any that came before.
Jonathan DeMel I have no idea how ufotable will handle the inner monologue of Shirou and Archer during that scene. All I know is if they pull it off correctly, and use EMIYA for said scene, it will be the best scene to grace Anime.
Absolute masterpiece of a character theme. Emiya's pain, perseverance, and strength all encompassed in an explosive and emotional theme. Emiya Shirou is not like other protagonists with set convictions and knows what drives them forward. Emiya is a fragile existence with no real meaning after the tragedy for the 4th Holy Grail War. He finds purpose in an ideal that seems so childish and self-serving. Yet, he pushes forward to save and protect the things he truly believes in no matter which route that takes him. That's what makes him a hero, he creates his own strength and will never lose to himself. With that strength he will take on anyone and can win. That is the essence of the heroic spirit Emiya.
I love how youtube won't allow me to play this video past the first 3 seconds in anything below 1080p, as if it was saying that anything below that would be disrespectful.
I was pretty amazed with the quality of this game's soundtrack. Even more, the quality of the editing. They made really creative use of pans and zooms on still images to create a very effective sense of actions. I daresay the still images of the game managed to put together more action packed scenes than the anime! You get a sense of what an unstoppable monster Hercules is in the game, then I watched the anime and was disappointed on what a slow, dorky looking troll doll he was :(
I never actually imagined Berserker as fast (although the game explicitly stated that he is). The way I imagined Berserker was like in the original visual novel opening, a slow, impending doom.
Archer (the iconic English version): I am the bone of my sword. Steel is my body, and fire is my blood. I have created over a thousand blades. Unknown to Death. Nor known to Life. Have withstood pain to create many weapons. Yet, those hands will never hold anything. So, as I pray - “Unlimited Blade Works”. Shirou (more literal translation): My body is made of swords! My blood is steel, my heart is glass. I have emerged unvanquished from many battles. Never have I been put to flight, but neither have I stood victorious. Its bearer stands here alone, forging steel atop a hill of blades. For that reason, my life has never needed meaning. My body has been made of infinite swords! Emiya (fan-remake of Emiya's spirit): I fight not with swords, Yet I am the symbol of my creations. The imagery of this life's purpose... To start with nothing, to gain something. Borrowed ideals, and borrowed dreams Thus is the life of mine. But for the more I venture, I will burn once more... Unlimited Blade Works!!
My body is made out of swords. My blood is of iron, and my heart of glass. I have survived countless battles. Not even once have I retreated, Not even once have I been understood. I was always alone, intoxicated with victory on the hill of swords. And thus, my life has no meaning. Certainly, this body was made out of swords.
I am the bone of my sword Steel is my body and fire is my blood I have created over a thousand blades Unknown to Death, Nor known to Life Have withstood pain to create many weapons Yet, those hands will never hold anything So as I pray, unlimited blade works.
Unlimited blade works route uses symbolisms to convey it's messages. It is not as complex as Heaven's feel but it uses symbolisms like ubw, Gilgamesh and rin character arc to present it's solutions. There is a big symbolism in that fight. Gilgamesh represent the different version of Shirou and even Archer. He want save humanity from ugliness and hatred described by angra mainyu through the wish of ‛death’. “Is that so? That worm-user does not seem like it, but such a person will become a curse if you do not take care of it quickly. It is not my style to watch people in this town die.” This statement takes Kotomine by surprise. This man, who does not care about anyone else, is concerned for the people. “I am surprised. What is going on Gilgamesh?” “It should not be surprising. I don't like it when people are killed by someone besides me. People will lose their way with boring crimes and punishment. Such pain is not entertaining at all.” “…I see. Then you are indeed a heroic spirit. You use death to save people from the agony of life. Then your wish is death?” “Of course. This age is filled with meaningless, worthless people. Exterminating them will be doing them a service.” He is very attached to the result of this hatred of world and want to cleanse it. But Shirou is very different. In the start of stay night, shirou think the best way of saving others by destroying a ‛true evil’. But it is impossible because there is no true evil in this world. Shirou has very twisted psychology who actually didn't concern about many but he concerned about all as they are only one. This lead to shirou to understanding his own hypocrisy. Because he has to destroy other wish for example madea's wish to save others. It never lead a situation where he can save everyone because he has to sacrifice other and their wish and he still wanted to kuzuki which he understands that it is nothing but a hypocrisy. So their is no way that he can destroy someone by strength. He understands this. But in the end of day, he understands that he shouldn't think about result. He has to do his work even though impossible. He tries to save everyone means try to create a situation where he can save everyone but never regret for its result. ‛Unware of loss, Nor aware of gain Have withstood pain to create many weapons (swords)’ These chants represent it. He doesn't believe in some miracle like holy grail or angra mainyu to result salvation. He thinks it is impossible but only possible way is to make people believe in the faith and value of selfless act. In short, he want to eradicate prejudice between people by affecting them through his own action. He pledge this in the ‛Land of infinite sword’. This land represent his resolve. Unlike Archer's Unlimited Blade works, Shirou's Unlimited Blade Works represent the graves of sacrifices of people to save everyone. It means it represents the selfless acts of Shirou Emiya as well as others to save everyone. Through his action, he will change people to have more faith in selfless act without prejudice and create same type of grave in that land which represent selflessness. This is the reason why shirou said “Everything is here, and nothing is here. That is why this is called Unlimited Blade Works. This is the only definite answer obtained by the one who lived as a sword all his life.” because in the end it is still impossible to create utopia. Even people have faith in selfless act and think about others also without prejudice. They can't always save everyone. They gave to save themselves by sacrificing others. But it will sure lead a better world. It is definite answer for anyone who lives his life as a sword means always saving others by sacrificing themselves. This the reason why only Shirou's world can lead a better world not Gilgamesh one. This is the reason why he wants to prove that against Gilgamesh. It is more better explained in fight of Shirou and Gilgamesh fight in visual novel. One more thing, their is clear example of shirou's influence create a person which has more faith in selfless act and that person is rin in ubw route. Rin has transformative arc in ubw which represent how shirou wanted to change people to create a beautiful world.
As much as I'm loving the Shiro vs Archer battle in the anime right now, I simply cannot wait to see Gilgamesh CURB-STOMPED by the one everybody considered to be weak. It will be glorious.
"GAR" is a word that means "very fucking manly." Think Gurren Laggann It originated when a fan of FSN on /a/ said that he was "gar for Archer," making a perhaps legendary typo.
I like how as soon as RU-vid renames "Original" to "2160p", I get several comments about the 2160p as if the "Original" setting was never there. The "Original" setting was there since this song/video was uploaded, and is in fact 4096x3072 rather than 2160p if one looks at the "Stats for Nerds" right-click menu.
Didn't want to add to 100+ comment chains, so going to start a new one: Am I alone in thinking that the original Shirou vs. Archer scene in the VN was better than the one in ufotable's anime? I understand that they needed to portray it correctly while entertaining the viewers, but I can't help but think that it was overdone, with the graphic monologuing. I feel that the simplicity of the VN scene matched the fight far better. Don't really know how to explain it better, so I won't try. Discuss, heckle and/or throw things if you want.
Totally with you on that one. The fight isn't completely interrupted for discussion, as it happens while they fight. The philosophy battle also isn't as drawn out; Shirou realizes his lifestyle is broken, admits that Archer has a point, but decides to keep pushing on since his dream is both justified and worth fighting for. Shirou actually wins by both convincing Archer of his point and using an opening, as opposed to Archer simply taking pity on him. And finally, there's no glaring polthole caused by the use of UBW by Archer. It's simple but concise.
Forced myself to rewatch it to see if it really was as bad as it seemed the first time around. Turned out that it was even worse. I could say many things, but overall, it just seemed incredibly corny. I spent half of the fight cringing.
Corny is the word I would use to describe this adaptation in general. Servants in the VN were only slightly above human power, meaning that people like Kotomine, Shirou and Kuzuki were impressive but believable. The huge spike in power for servants means that said humans have become freakish demigods to compensate. Not to mention the absurd flanderization of many characters, most blatant being Shirou and Tohsaka watered down to a generic idiot hero and cut-out tsundere. The adaptation wasn't terrible, but it brought the quality of the original down by a fair margin. The disappointment of this fight just helps highlight the other flaws that appeared along the way.
Standing Above Regarding the Servants - they WERE superhuman in the VN too. Every instance of humans matching Servants is either the Servant being weakened/going easy or GARM enhancements.
MyVanir Yes, they are superhuman, but to the point that they have an edge not an insurmountable wall. Rider was fast but not so much that she was impossible for a human to hit, same with Lancer. Even Saber was able to be matched in a sword fight by Shirou near the fate route. I'm not saying Servants are weak, but they were enhanced humans (With powerful weapons and a large degree of skill, given), not gods of battle. Anyway, I'm sidetracking the purpose of this post enough. Just forget the outburst, I shouldn't be complaining here.
I am the bane of my Demon Anything is my body, nothing is my blood I have created many copies Unknown to limits Nor known to logic Have withstood the pain to become incredibly OP Yet casuals will always call Goku stronger So as I pray, Unlimited Paradox Works
@Dranikos you're right His body is made out of swords. His blood is of iron and his heart of glass. He survived through countless battles. Not even once retreating, Not even once being understood. He was always alone. Intoxicated with victory in a hill of swords. Thus, his life needs no meaning. That body was, certainly made of unlimited swords.
I am the spark of battle. Steel is my will and my heart is fire. I have mastered countless weapons. Unknown to truth. (Never surpassing hope.) Nor known to myth. (Just beyond despair.) Through pain and trial, I bring power to legend. (Forever surrounded by broken dreams.) Yet I shall stand on the hill forging for perfection. (Still I seek to save those around me.) I have no regrets. (Hell shall met thy wrought iron.) I seek the ultimate victory. (Your defeat is my purpose.) My soul is... (So hear this desperate cry of...) Unlimited War Works!
I think it's tradition that SOMEONE post this on every Emiya Video, so I'll do it for the original EMIYA. I Am The Bone Of My Sword; Steel Is My Body, Fire Is My Blood; I Have Created Over A Thousand Blades; Unaware Of Loss, Nor Aware Of Gain; Withstood Pain To Create Many Weapons; Waiting For One's Arrival, I Have No Regrets; This Is The Only Path, My Whole Life Was; UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS! Here I come, King of Heroes! DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH SWORDS?
There's something different about this one compared to the other highly viewed VN emiya. The dance beat seems more expressive. Audio quality higher I guess?
Due to the way I make these, there can be extended versions of ALL the Fate/stay night background music, though I haven't been uploading due to internet issues which I believe has finally been solved.
Nope, only the EMIYAs. Which is a shame because i listen to them the most :P Also, i appreciate you taking the time to respond to all these comments. Not many people do that.
Go back to episode 0 and listen to when the camera pans up Archer in the chair (right after he's first summoned, before he says anything) You can hear the "buildup", once you hear that you'll hear it everywhere (when he first uses caladbolg vs bers for example).
...huh? the "Baby don't hurt me" is a reference to Haddaway's song "What is love?" The term "GAR" is not used anywhere in any official media, whether it be the VN, anime, movie, or related Fate-series content (Unlimited Codes, Fate/Zero, etc).
There are several more songs I can and wish to do, so it is not out of the question. Whether I would be able to do such a thing in a timely fashion, however, is another issue altogether...
I am the bone of my sword Steel is my body, and fire is my blood I have created over a thousand bleads ーUnknown to death Nor known to lifeー Have withstood to pain many weapons Yet, those hand never hold anything So, as I pray "Unlimited Blade Works"!!!
Well, even though I technically don't take requests, I do take such "requests" into consideration on what order I do things and it turns out this is probably the most commonly requested song.
Just because it hasn't been done yet doesn't mean I haven't considered it nor does it mean I'm not ever going to. At the same time it doesn't mean I will either. tl;dr: If I feel like doing so, then I will. I think I burnt myself out with how many I did in a row to the point that it's literally been years. Perhaps I'll try to do a slower but more consistent pace, like once a week? Also my internet has been having issues for the last few months, so it would be difficult to upload anything...
Hm. I think there is a new Emiya version in the Kaleid Liner Prisma Iliya spin-off. It sounded quite amazing. And very loop-able. Could have been the general anime Emiya version though.
Well, I personally don't like it when a video's author doesn't respond to my comments, so yeah... However, I don't like it when people turn the comments into a forum thread with continual on-going discussion of something - it makes it much more difficult to make direct replies. I myself shy away from actual back-and-forth forum debates in general, so I end up not wanting to stick my head out... you can see examples of this on my "Emiya Crow's Claw" and "Light and Darkness" song-videos.
That's not a defect, it's a feature! No seriously, it's a RU-vid function. If you pause the video when it's somewhere in the middle, RU-vid will remember that position unless you visit the webpage again. My guess is that my song-video things are so long that you've always watched other videos in one sitting without ever pausing in the middle and going back to them at a later point.
yeah, some of them say that the translation is at 30% and other said it is at 90% im a bit confused even reading the beast's lair forum so I think it is gonna take a little bit more time
@MedicHaus Actually it's not in original quality - the source is original, but because RU-vid encodes everything, it's not an original. It'd only be original of RU-vid started offering lossless audio.
