@@cherries_and_wine yeah. My favourite thing about this adaptation of Emma is that they actually make subtle nods to Clueless so I'm basically calling this an adaptation of an adaptation. And honestly it means they get the vibe exactly right.

OMG! I watched thousands of movies in my life and alone today it was 5! But i have never seen something so boring! I have watched 30 Minutes of total and entire boredome without any substance whatsoever before i quit! 30 Minutes, my god! Can anyone tell me what this last trash-movie is? I mean, Mulan is still worse but this one's even more 'boring'! I was surprised out of my socks! Can someone tell me if there's ever anything happening after the 30 Minutes Mark??

@@k.5425 The Regency was pretty racy among the aristocracy. Byron and Lady Caroline Lamb, Nelson and his Emma Hamilton, the royal duke with 10 illegitimate children. Men occupied themselves with drinking and whoring, the married women with gambling and "discreet" affairs that everyone knew about but didn't discuss openly. The Victorians who followed them censored them because they were ashamed that their ancestors had been so wicked.

@@Black_pearl_adrift you can go with "memey period drama" because that covers basically everything set in the past and doesn't tie you down to a particular historical era and also means you can talk about period films set in other countries that have the same meme vibe to them since Regency and Victorian are terms that only apply to British history. After all Gentleman Jack and David Copperfield both also have this sort of meme vibe to them and they are in fact set in the Victorian era. So yeah "Memey period drama" is the genre of choice.

I shied away from this movie for so long and felt like a total dunce when I finally did see it. The film was a glorious, chaotic experience. One minute I'd be engaged in the dialogue, then the costume, then laughing out loud at some witty scene. Would definitely watch again.

I eventually LOATHED the book in English because of the run-on sentences, but now I think I'm going to have to revisit it.

I enjoyed the movie more than the book which is something I never say! The book is a great deal slower moving and difficult to get through. I hope you have better luck with it!

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. If you ever write a sentence as good as Jane Austen's worst, you should get down on your knees and thank God for the miracle. This is like saying you hate watching a great actress act because she broke a rule your drama teacher told you one time. Grammar education exists to make people one step closer to appreciating the real masters of the language - and Jane Austen is one of them. If a rule says she did it wrong, the rule is wrong, period.

I have some issues with this film, but I have to admit the humour is on point, the soundtrack is charming, and, for the first time, I find Mr. Woodhouse *likeable.* This is the first time he's been something more than an irritatingly selfish hypochondriac, and I like it.
