Emma Johnson talks about the altissimo register of the clarinet as part of the series of classes she gave for ICanPlayIt.com. (The book is no longer available)
This is very helpful. I have been futzing around without knowing what I was doing, and this really focuses the thinking. I would appreciate more on the topic for passages having huge intervals as in Martino Set for Clarinet, or the Nielson Concerto. There are passages that seem hopelessly difficult for me. Also, just hitting high B and C is very difficult for me. although I do admit to playing on a soft reed. Thanks again.
Does the instrument/ Reed and mouthpiece make a difference I believe you use a beautiful clarinet made by Peter Eaton is it easier than some of the narrower French Clarinets. Thank you love you’re playing Emma I’m teaching - God bless you and yours Bill. UK
It's worth experimenting with different reeds and mouthpieces.....the narrow bore French clarinets just require a slightly different approach. Thanks for your interest in the video!
