@@AyushiB-sd5xdlook, if it's not a porn film, sex scenes are "fake", which means actors are simulating the scene without anything actually going on down there. You're probably pretty young if you thought those could be real

I loved Willem Dafoe's character, it's not just a cardboard one dimensional "evil guy", nor he is a "good guy", it's a nuanced character with virtues and defects. When the other doctor confronts him about the nature of Bella he just decides to be honest and practical so he explains plainly what is going on. It's also inline with his character, a man who mainly approaches things logically and coldly. Yet he is hurt when Bella goes away, despite his claims of having a scientific mind and he being beyond emotions. There are many things like that that make him great.

I agree with your comment 100% and it’s refreshing to see someone else pick up on that. To add, part of the reason I love this movie so much is that it talks about what it means to be a scientist and how generational trauma affects people working in STEM fields. I don’t know if they were even trying to do that but as a woman in science I found it incredibly impactful.

In regards to the sex scenes, Bella, while working at the brothel, was feeling uneasy about her profession. I found it interesting, in order to solve her mental/psychological dilemma, she asked her customers to tell a memory and she would provide a joke. After passing a sniff test for cleanliness, she would then find sex with strangers more acceptable/appealing.

It was such a great movie, I am so glad I was able to catch it in the theaters here in South Korea. It will be on my mind for the next few days. It's been a while since I've been able to see a beautiful artsy film. I absolutely loved the unquestioned burp bubbles Godwin would do during meals. The dance was so good! And the music score as the movie progressed! Wow. People that are so focused on the sex and nudity are missing out on everything else this movie has to offer. How you react to the scenes has more to say about you than the people that worked on this film. Emma stone and the others did a fantastic job. I want to watch it again soon. 💜

I see how the movie represents "All men". The male leads, as always, were protected from gratuitous nudity and raunchy sex scenes that could be exploited by gutter dwellers in the audience. You have to protect the dignity of the men. Of course. A LOT of men do seem to be championing equality for women through this movie. So much better than sexploitation films of the past where the women, not the men, are expected by male writers, directors to expose themselves for the pleasure of the male audience. Right?

Are we going to talk about how Bella has a baby’s brain and soul and that she has sex with grown adult men throughout the whole movie? Is that okay? I guess this just shows what you can do if you are not constrained by any social or spiritual or religious boundaries? And then socialism.
@camillechapman3108
@camillechapman3108 2 месяца назад
that is why the film makers say you can’t take the timeline literally. And why they do such a good job of twisting the reality of the world with flying machines and such. While it’s a baby brain in the story, the timeline of her being a baby or toddler can’t be taken literally, more the idea of a baby and learning about the world. Obviously she grows a lot faster than a real baby brain would, she learns words and her hair grows incredibly fast. This is one if the ways I loved the movie because they made the whole world off kilter enough to make the idea workable.

I had thoughts of grooming and pedophile vibes while Emma, though adult in size, was still clearly still a child or young teen. I guess consent was out of the question. Well, what would be wrong if someone with a child's mind and adult body wants to experience something that feels really good? I worked with the mentally challenged for years, and it's sort of the same question. Does the longer life experience make it OK if the person is still functionally a child? Should (Godew?) have not let her go into the world? I mean, the idea of transplanting the baby's brain into the mother's body is morally controversial to begin with. What about socialism?

It’s the oldest profession in the world, it’s been around a long long time before us and it will be around a long long time after us too. It is what it is, everyone knows it’s there and what it is, I don’t think it can be glamourised or demonised any more than what it is. Both men and women are involved just as much in that industry nowadays I really don’t know what’s to complain abt ? There are always going to be people that want or need to buy it, and people that are willing to sell it, in 99.9% of cases everyone is happy. In fact, there have been places on this planet that have tried to ban prostitution completely and have always found that things get worse as crime rates and rape cases go up. It’s a very much needed part of society im afraid whether it’s one’s cup of tea or not.
