Emmanuel Pahud plays Bach (2/2) (Flute Sonatas) Sonata in E minor BWV 1034 III. Andante IIII. Allegro Emmanuel Pahud~Flute Trevor Pinnock~Harpsichord Jonathan Manson~Cello
Bravo, Pahud. Brilliant, as usual. This is a great sonata. The first movement "c'est comme une flagellation" (as Mr Nicolet told me once in a master class) The second movement is like a Brandenburg concert. The third one is the only peaceful moment of the sonata. And the fourth is connected to the second, full of energy and strength. The group of Bach sonatas for flute and continuo are summit works in flute literature
Usually, if you try to play non-vibrato with the flute, with poor basic training, an irregular vibrato without control is the sad result. Indeed, it needs the most patient training to play long sequences without any vibrato. Besides, how can the sequences with wonderful expressive vibrato can be ignored?? Pahud is just to admire.
