I love how versatile Emmett is. He can play stride style with some old guys one day, and then picks up the very modern sounds of his horn players in this tune, matching the style. Not a lot of pianists can do that.
I never heard of that young lady before. But - wow - she is amazing, the way she makes that horn sound in that really cool flow is such a joy! Looking forward to hearing Alexa Tarantino many times to come.
Full disclosure: I stopped at the end of Alexa’s solo…wow, I just need to absorb that! After decades of listening, playing and teaching jazz I often turn jazz performances off (often very accomplished ones!) because of…I don’t know, some sort of hard-to-describe disappointment. But Alexa’s solo was so full of interesting texture, tone, thematic development yada, yada - I don’t know - THE GOOD STUFF, I just had to stop and enjoy the feeling for a while! I’ll be listening to the rest soon. Emmet - this song always reminds me of Jerry Bergonzi’s playing on Dave Brubeck’s ‘Paper Moon’ recording. BTW, Jerry would be a fantastic guest to invite to your place. He’s one of the greatest living tenor players and a wonderful, funny human being too!
Could someone bring top jazz : Emmet Cohen and Dutch jazzpeople together ? Like : Benjamin Herman and Candy Dulfer ? For example......we in the Netherlands have a lot of friends named Cohen, in my old Amsterdam.....😘😘
