This woman has a brilliant command of her instrument, is willing to take chances, and hears in a way that few jazz musicians do. She is a romantic at heart, and her music is absorbing, fun, easy to hear (very important), and beautiful. Brava!
A GREAT INTERNATIONAL PIANIST AND COMPOSER FROM INDIA! SO UNDERRATED AS A PIANTIST, I PLAY ALSO, OH NOT AS GOOD YET I KNOW IMPROVISATION JAZZ PIANO WHEN I SO HEAR IT! YOU CANNOT ‘ TEACH THIS’, RENEE WAS SO BORN WITH THIS! 🌹
Turning back the clock to some gorgeous piano from a major artist that's been on the scene for years as many of her contemporaries she played with like joe henderson, james moody, bobby hutcherson, jj johnson... have passed on. Renee Rosnes is a major composer and pianist.
I have a number of her albums. GENIUS knows no gender or anything. Some human beings get this gift, and thankfully, are also generous enough to share it with us.
Nobody seems to have noticed that another master (mistress?) of the piano, Jessica Williams, has given the thumbs up to Renee's performance. That speaks volumes.
Renee has paid her dues playing with everyone and has incredible chops. This is what jazz piano is all about. Anyone who thinks she isn't good doesn't have ears or understand jazz.
We just lost Chic Correa, whom so many loved I am hearing significant inspiration and keyboard confidence Renee may have been deriving from Return to Forever in this particular track,
She ranks among the very best. She has been playing with star-studded groups for many years and has released several albums of her own. I love her playing much.
I think it's great to compare the same jazz standards performed by different artists. As for Rhapsody, Renee is my personal top. I love her version even better than the interpretation by my absolute superhero, Mr. Evans. To my mind, besides a unique command of the instrument and fantastic ability to hear music, she offers a guided tour of cool jazz in a very comprehensible, versatile, and gentle manner, yet shows great strength and brilliant musical personality. She starts at a light, sentimental point, passes to some extremely tasteful Latin jazz, and finally, we find ourselves among some beautiful surrealistic soundscapes. Modern jazz will not face the manner crisis as long as Renee walks this earth. One love
Of course, Renee is the extraordinary great pianist, with beautiful looking. So, camera work is focusing on her !! Beautifulness is very strong point ⑅◡̈*
Great video. In fact it's almost unbelievable. It is mesmerizing to see and hear her. Her trio reminds me a lot of the Keith Jarrett trio. Someone once said: Nothing is really real unless it happens on television. And now with youtube I guess one can say that nothing is really real unless you see it on youtube. Thanks for sharing this great video.
A superb pianist who rarely fails to enthral and delight. She has the lively spirit, fire and passion, which almost makes me wish I could be at home with her and husband, Bill C. when they get to arguing who is first in line to practice on their home piano.)
Isn't she lovely. Touch of Class. Fond memories of your Concert, Renee in Mumbai 2012, organised by Jazz Addicts: Sunil Sampat, Pradip Bhatia and Apurva Agarwal. Loved this tune. God Bless and Good Health to You . Say Hello to Bill. Would love to hear both of you perform in Mumbai.
Had a band in NYC in the 90's and everyone told me to hire Renee....never did...didnt know who she was. kick myself every time I hear her play. Might of all been different.
Great video, great playing. I'd like to also point out what strikes me as some very deft video editing from about 6:30 for a minute or so, really capturing the internal energy of a swinging rhythm section, when the playing and groove is as on as it is here.
Not "very good", the best female pianist whom I've ever heard, and one of the best jazz pianists living.Get real! She's stupendous! And my favorites are Art Tatum, Bill Evans, and Oscar Peterson!
