You get two slices of white bread and fully butter each side and the try your best to fit the whole bag of taytos in between and then give it a little pat on top to seal in the flavour.
I'm Irish and I have love love loved your Irish videos! so interesting to see a different perspective on sweets you know and love. love your channel by the way!
The crisp sandwich is basically a national dish here in Ireland, but I can't tell you how mind-blowing it was to see it done open-faced, an absolute revelation, love it!
Crisp sandwiches are popular in the UK too. I often have one as a snack but I prefer cheese and onion or pickled onion flavours, but always on white bread thickly spread with Lurpak butter. Yum :)
When we were kids, my brother and i used to eat minty candies, similar to those blue ones, and drink icy water so we would feel that cool burn haha...good times.
we don't have cheese and onion flavor in the US, at least I've never seen any. We have sour cream and onion flavor and onion flavor(funyuns). I've tried both on sandwiches as well as cheddar flavor and other ones. Funyuns are terrible, sour cream and onion is ok, cheddar is ok, the winners(for me) are salt and vinegar or jalapeño.
A few Chirstmases ago my mum made a topping over the Christmas cake with melted Glacier mints. She poured the melted mints over a rolling pin then let it set. It looked amazing and tasted great!
The little liquorice "bear" you found is actually from a popular pack of sweets in the UK and Ireland called "Liquorice Allsorts" and their mascot is a little man made of liquorice called Bertie Bassett, and that is meant to be a liquorice rendition of Bertie
haha gud morning! its 1 am in the UK I have school tmrw and should be sleeping but I sneaked my phone out to put myself to sleep hehe! luv u! Hugs from England!
+emmymadeinjapan whenever an irish person tells you to put butter on anything, always put more than 2x what you would prefer to make them feel like you actually put butter on it. :)
We have pick and mix candy in Finland as well :). Because usually when I crave candy I want multiple different kinds rather than just one kind or a few mixed in a bag. Pick and mix is great also because you have the option of leaving out the candies you don't like, whereas that's not possible if you buy a bag of premixed candies.
Emmy I always enjoy your videos. I actually made it back to Ireland in 2017 and it was the first time anyone in my family had set foot into Ireland in three generations.
Omg I'm from London and I live in Dubai now, but I used to LOVE pick n mix! We don't have it here... But in the UK they're everywhere! In cinemas, grocery stores and supermarkets!
Pick n Mix in America can be found as the holy grail of candy store "Lolli & Pops" !!! You have the FREEDOM of picking and mixing ANY CANDY from the store. Each candy is freshly delivered from countries around the world!!
I've been watching your channel for over a year and you are still my favorite person on RU-vid. Thank you for consistently posting new videos. They always make my day :-)
Where I live, there's something similar to the Candy King cup? In some corner stores there will be an aisle of assorted candies that you can pick out and put in a bag. Depending on size and style, the candies range from 5c-25c and they're similar style to what was in your Ireland cup. And the bulk candies were often candies you wouldn't be able to get in a normal package, which was exciting. For example, I've only seen fuzzy coke gummies in these bins, and never in a grocery store!
Yes pick n mix is all over the uk. You pick whatever candy you want. sometimes its charged by weight. But alot of the time you are allowed to fill a plastic cup as much as you want for a fixed price.
Our supermarkets have the candy cups as well, you pay by the size of the cup you fill. The blue ones are blue raspberry bon-bons, yummy! We have them here in Canada too.
love you emmy your videos are a stress relief/ coping mechanism for me at this point thank you so much. also crisp sandwiches are best enjoyed folded over its less mess 💚🍀
Those eskimo mints are given away in most Chinese restaurants as an after meal mint. They come with your bill. And the Frys creme bar does come in a peppermint flavour also. It's really nice!
Crisp sarnies (sandwiches) are a big thing with kids in the UK and has been for at least 40 years.. Yummers. Candy king pick and mix, i get those for my birthday from a uk shop called Wilko. The critter was a 'Bertie' from a box of Bassetts Liquorice Allsorts.
I'm from Germany and my class went to england last year. There we've eaten salt & vinegar chips for the first time. Everybody said they taste terrible ,but at the next moment everybody wanted more xD These are like drugs.
Emmy, there is this super sour lollipop from South Africa that my friend used to get me as a gift everytime he goes home to SA. It is great, although painfully sour when you first put it in your mouth. I hope you will get to try it out!
Pick and mix is common in Australia as well, more so in cinemas but can also be found in other places. Price is measured by weight. Pix and mix is also very popular in Malaysia but with dried fruit and other traditional Malay sweets along with the candy :)
Yes Emmy, the candy king thing is real in Europe. We dont have that kind here in the Netherlands, but the concept is still known. I also add chips on my sandwiches (with cheese and ham)
We get the pick and mix candy in Sweden too, even the same brand. Candy King is really popular, also you find this kind of candy in every single store... even gas stations and mini markets. :)
pick and mix is very normal in most of Europe and I'm from Denmark so it's called bland selv slik we also have candy king and many other chains it's like that almost every city has at least one shop! we especially do it before going to the cinema love from Denmark!!
we have something similar in Canada to the pick and mix! they use to be available everywhere like 7 eleven but they've disappeared and now only available at certain candy stores. unfortunate but I loved it!
In the UK w have Candy King in every cinema and in ASDA. The blue things are called Bon bons. I think the most popular things are the Bon bons, vanilla fudge and chewy strawberries, they're so good!
Crisp butties are scrummy! I love salt and vinegar crisps on there own but prefer cheese n onion or prawn cocktail crisps in a sandwich. Don't know if Ireland is the same but here in the UK, we also have chip (fries) butties. There yummy too especially with an egg on top and the yolk runs through the chips! Mmmmm! I could really go for a....... Darn it! No eggs in the fridge! Hmph!
pretty sure the little blue sweets you called gum from the pick and mix were probably some kind of bon bon. looks like either raspberry or bubble gum, at least that's my guess. correct me if I. wrong anyone from Ireland.
What I am amazed by is how Emmy always manages to remember the exact name of similar tasting items from other countries that she's tasted in the distant past. How do you do it Emmy?! I can't remember what I had for breakfast!
Has to be fluffy white fresh bread, two slices, copious amount of butter and as mentioned by others, the pat on the sandwich with your hand to push it down is a must 😉
I think it's so amazing that you remember anything when a candy reminds you of another one! You know in which video you tasted it, from which country it was and you even remember the texture of it! I don't think I could remember all that... It just makes me so happy to watch your videos and to see that you really put a bit of your heart in every one of them. ^-^ And to be honest: I'm 100% sure that you taught me more about all these countries out there than any teacher ever did. :D ~With love from Germany
Bulk Barn in Canada (bulkbarn.ca) has tons of candies, snacks, granolas, spices, juice mixes, etc. that you can buy in bulk. It's awesome, especially if you're a baker. I tried some of those blue ball candies from there! They call them Blue Raspberry Bonbons. I guess you can get them in other colours/flavours too.
Candy King is also in Finland with same principle of pick and mix. And as we are speaking of Finland, there is salmiakki in there. And ;) Guacamole is green
For some reason I just thought of someone taking a soundbite of you saying "blue balls" and making a techno remix of it. I've been listening to too much electornic music :L
There is another new brand of crisps in Ireland call keoghs simular to the o'donnells but have alot more flavors my personal favourite is the shamrock sour cream and onion flavour for christmas they had a special edition flavor roast turkey flavour very nice maybe you might come across them for your next taste test.
i do know about Pick and Mix but u can´t get it in the local stores (I´m from Germany) ! But years ago as a child we could pick out different candy in the bakery and at the gas station .
Emmy in Scotland we have a supermarket called the co op ( co-operative) amd they sell chardonnay vinegar and salt crisps. Has anybody sent you them if not I could. They are the sharpest crisps ever and the next day the skin exfoliates off your mouth like a chemical peel. But they are amazing x
Do you actually rememeber every candy you ever had?^^ Its like : Oh that reminds me of that candy i had one from 3 months ago :D if only i could remember stuff like you do -.-
Those bulk by-the-pound candy shops used to be everywhere in the US, or at least here in Southern California. And by "used to be," I mean as recently as 15 years ago. But they really have seemed to disappear since then, at about the same rate as malls have disappeared. Related maybe?
Salt and vinegar chips make my tongue numb. As a kid, I liked baloney sammies on white bread with mustard and chips in the sandwich... so yummy. Black licorice is one of my favorites
I really enjoyed this video Miss Emmy. I too absolutely LOVE salt and vinegar chips/crisps. Also, I have been putting chips on my sandwiches for years now, and my favorite is the Takis fuego. I like to crush them in a baggie, and sprinkle them over my salads as well! You and I have a lot of the same tastes when it comes to food. Anyway, thank you f or posting these taste testing videos. I really like them =)
Have you ever tried Keoghs crisps? They're definitely my favourite crisps. Also I love the jelly beans made by the Jelly Bean Factory (especially the sour ones)
