the looping video part was hilarious, at first i thought she just REALLY liked the cookie but then the same words were repeated and i just got really confused
Around 6:20, did that scene just loop twice? It was so seamless, it surprised me when she made the same noises and said the "hint of salt in it" part again. Maybe it's just my phone...
Hey emmy! The brown sugar candy is indeed unique to Okinawa. The sugar is high in minerals, so I guess it makes it a healthy candy. Lol! My mom brought some back from her last trip to Okinawa while visiting family. Thanks for sharing!
My grandmother is from Okinawa, and there are many Okinawan women who live around here. I remember going to visit one of my grandmother's friends as a child, and she'd always have this huge array of chinsuko! They were so delicious, and seeing them here reminds me of those wonderful childhood memories. I've had some of these other treats, too, especially when I traveled to Okinawa to visit my relatives there two years ago. If you ever have the chance to visit there, you need to try the black sugar/sugarcane ice cream! It's a delicious sugar flavor similar to the pure sugar you ate here except for that the ice cream flavor is very subtle, similar to a pallet-cleanser. It's unique to Okinawa as far as I know. I had it once at a restaurant and twice at Blue Seal ice cream stands/shoppes. Thank you for that blast to the past! I'm going to watch your next video now!
In India we call bitter melon "Kerala ". It's not a favorite to younger children so theres actually a little song that says if you eat your Kerala shaak, you will get warm roti with it!
+emmymadeinjapan Hi Emmy. I know I am way late and you might not even see this and even if probably no reply. I had to comment tho! I was so excited when you pulled out the Hi-Chews! I just bought a bag 2 days ago first time. Was looking for peach rings and got that instead. Thing is I WISH I had the flavors you tasted. I know you love grape but the grape in this bag was so strange. There was strawberry and green apple too. I liked the apple best. I love pineapple! That and the other tropicals sound awesome. I wonder if we get any of those here in the midwest? Anyway TY for the video and inspiring me to look further.😍🍍
Because of you, me and my fiancé went to a Korean store around the corner and we bought a bunch of stuff . The shrimp chips , Plum candy , Coffee Candy , A strawberry and original Ramune (I love them) , octopus flavored chips , Greene Apple Hi Chew (witch were delicious ) Hello Panda chocolate/Strawberry filled biscuits , Pepero , and a couple other things . We plan on going back because everything was absolutely delicious ! Thank you so much for introducing us to something new and delightful !
That turtle at the end, I almost died. So cute. This video was awesome, my husband and a friend spent two tours over in Okinawa Japan and brought back some super yummy foods. I can't wait to visit.
You're adorable! I love your personality and how.you make everything fun!!! I always watch your videos when I'm sad and i end up laughing at what a positive person you are!!! Please never stop making videos and never change your silly, easily excited self!! I love you so much Emmy and I will try to send you a package from my home country!! Never change +emmymadeinjapan
Emmy I have a question, have you ever encountered a food that you just found too off-putting to even try? My guess is probably not but I'm just curious! :)
Emmy, ok im not even going to start by saying how great your videos etc etc are to try to be one that you choose but i hope i do get choosen because i love trying new things! P.s. Your vids are awesome!
I really love this episode because you try new things but since it is a place in your country you know what they are so you explain it for us and that's so nice :)
I adore Emmy and her sweet calming voice and personality. And her reaction to the food is just so enjoyable, second only to trying these treats yourself!
maybe you can find an online friend from another country with whom you can do a snack trade :3 that's gonna cost quite a bit, though, but maybe for your birthday or something your parents are willing to contribute~
Dang! You can eat a lot. I have lived in Mizugama Okinawa for almost seven years and haven't eaten half as many Oki snacks as you did in part 1. Great stuff. Too bad you didn't have any soft serve benihimo/vanilla ice cream in that box Michael sent you.
emmymadeinjapan yeah... saw that on Part II.... thanks for sending the link to my FB inbox. ... I didn't see some things from Okinawa I like so I might have to send you some... PEACE!
06:41 I was out shopping today and saw those turtle senbei. I could not remember where I saw them before but I bought the Ume flavor. Once I got on my bicycle and headed home, I remembered... Emmy! I think I will eat them tomorrow.
Emmy you're delightful and I really enjoyed watching you "eat Okinawa." I lived on Ishigaki Island in the Yaeyama archipelago of Okinawa for three years, and miss so much about it. Just taking a short trip down Memory Lane and came across your video; I remember enjoying so many of the things you sampled on this video and look forward to my next visit there. ありがとうございまして、なん来るないさ〜!
This was such an awesome video..I learnt so much about Japanese..Okinawa snacks/candy :3 So great!! Keep up the good work! (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ I love Japanese culture and everything about Japan and this video was soo fun to watch :3 !!
I have family that was born in Okinawa and o went to visit them for a month all of there food and drinks and toys are so cool lol! I wish I could go again but I have to wait until next year
Her precise and specific memories ("Halls lozenges", for instance), her eloquent and thoughtful descriptions of everything.crunching in her mouth! This clip was from a while ago, and I don't know what Emmy does for work, but her episodes are always fun and solid journalism at the same time! I hope she gets to review for a major paper / magazine / news website some day! It's a great channel on RU-vid but what I always hear is a REALLY good writer talking!
Okinawans apparently a thing for pineapples, which is cool... it's a yummy fruit, _and_ it's good for you too. :) P.S. - Those kamenoko crackers look _really_ good.
OMG I love Japanese culture!! And that ending was SOOOO cute!! (I like turtles incase you didn't know) Oh, and BTW can I get your address so I can send you some treats? Yours sincerely OnsieSisters
Emmy, are you open to doing a show on New Mexico--our foods here are so different from other states as the state is very old and spanich/indian? Its not really 'American' in the strictest sense. we have green red chile/ different Spanish sweets, etc. Let me know--and I'll send a snack package (how do people do this??)
You know, I have been to Okinawa, Japan before, and I NEVER even tried any of the sweets or snacks from there! Well, that's just because I was a little baby/tike.
Hi Emmy, I'm relatively new to your channel. I would like to ask do you know of any good online sites for chopsticks? I love the chopsticks you are using, and I don't have any good pairs. I also read the description, so I'm adorbs.
Thank you for the vid, again! I have a guestion. Have you noticed differences between sweets from distinct continents? I have heard that sweets in Asia - or at least in Japan - aren't that sweet, and that sweets are most sweet in the Northern America or Southern & Middle Europe (heard from my traveling friends). Is there any truth on that? ...and oh, that turtle in the end x3
I love your videos! I would LOVE to find people from other countries to get food from! I would love to do these kinds of videos! How did you get started?!
This is the second time I've seen "Collon" food when searching for Japanese snacks. The correct way to pronounce that, in any form of English, is like the phonetic "Kawlun". There are two L's there.
Hello Emmy-san, I want to thank you for this video. I am a descendant of Okinawan immigrants and I've never been to Okinawa - in fact, when I grow up more, I want to visit Okinawa and see the land of my ancestors. Thank you for showing, tasting and saying your opinion about th Okinawan snacks, I'll certainly try some of them when I visit :)
Good presentation you are a joy to watch. W have all those Japanese & Okinawa snacks in Hawaii. The cookies you ate are called chinsuko. I know that many of the snacks are not to the Haoles taste. There was another video where a Military guy was tasting & critiquing the snacks he tasted and he hated most of it because it was fishy. Many Asians don't like all kinds of cheese and the aroma of it. Personally I love Okinawan & Japanese & Hawaii's cuisine.
I grew up in Tokyo, Japan. I would love to see you do a mainland Japan sweets and treats video. My best childhood memories were walking to the candy store with my allowance. Fizzy cola tablets were my favourite.
沖縄に行きたいなー!でも俺、ゴーヤ食べないよ!苦すぎる!w I do want to try some of the other snacks in your video, though. Ahh... A nice summer night on an Okinawan beach, good company, a bottle of 泡盛, 島人ぬ宝 playing in the background.. I just found your channel and I really like your vids so far. They put a smile on my face! ^^ スウェーデンからがんばれー!これからよろしくお願いします! ps マジかわいいよ エミー!
Love your little turtle at the end. I discovered you a few days ago and by now have probably watched the majority of your videos. Like the foods you love best, you are quite spicy and very interesting. Thanks!
I love all your videos. They made me smile last week, and I've been really depressed since my beloved Deidre crossed over. I didn't think anything would make me feel happy again. Goddess Bless you and your family.
im swedish and i slurped my noodles and Spaghetti before i even knew japan was a country :P people always complained about that they think it's disgusting :P. i always told them " it's easier to eat this way "
In Okinawa has this Tofu made from peanuts. I've heard it's very good, and regret I'll never try some. I think most of the viewers of this channel are hard core meat eaters, and wouldn't eat Tofu, peanut or otherwise, for million dollars.
Okinawa is awesome. often the prefecture is cut out from the many Japan maps because it's just too far from the mainland but it certainly is a beautiful and unique prefecture of Japan. i really want to visit Okinawa someday.
I loveeee these videos, but the sound of hard candies clacking against teeth makes my skin crawl haha! Have to skip those parts everytime. Much love emmy!
I am curious to try out all sorts of the foods and snacks of the world so I would totally go for it. I'm American, African American and have never tried anything else besides American and Chinese food. I don't know what sushi tastes like. Lol and my first time eating a kiwi was when I was 17 years old. Wow.
If you have a great day, I am a big fan of your own. The first one. I am not a big fan of this email. Please help me. The other thing I have to be a great time, I am not a problem with this, but I don't think it would have to do. I will not be a great deal. If the person you talked with the same time as well. I will be a problem. It
I'm eating pocky right now it's my first time eating it and it's so good the pockys flavor is strawberry I got it at my local walmart and I'm also eating mango hi-chew it's also good
