This was not prepared. This was a challenge that she did in an afternoon. All three have those perfect imperfections in their voices. They are real, raw, and future Legends ;)
She did this as a challenge to herself - asked fans on IG what song she should do, chose this song, and then posted this a few hours later. So this is with very little practice, almost off the top of her head.
That's the big reason I love this cover, recorded on just a cell phone, her and a piano. No one is pitch perfect when they sing unless they've been autotuned. Some are better than others but The ladies of The Warning are able to reach the audience on a wonderfully pure human raw side with no fear and they sound so good to my ear. Pau did a brilliant job on this.
Two people Ive seen are pitch perfect live, Danielle Bradbery and Angelina Jordan. But yes most other artists are overly autotuned. Katy Perry is one for sure that overly autotuned and you can tell during her live performances. Props to Pau for taking a risk here. I like it better now knowing this than when I heard it the first time. Plus you dont get your voice better unless you work it out.
She was challenged and this was her response on her third try. Perfection? To the trained ear, maybe not but to the general public, you can’t ask for too much more. Pure, raw, honest, talent at its most simplest form.
Out of all of Pau's late-night solo shows, I love this one, her piano playing is so amazing, I could listen to her play for hours, days, weeks... Well you know.
"The imperfection, almost makes it a little more perfect". Well that's one hell of a sentence that not only applies to a voice but also to how we look (embrace aging instead of correction). It's all about the soul and connection! Thanks M.
There are videos on RU-vid of her playing classical piano at age 5. in one of them, she plays along with Danny. she needs the piano to compose and make music since she is a drummer. Ale also plays the piano very well.
It's important to note that Pau (and her three sisters) is an instrumentalist who sings. The singing imperfections are to be expected and actually embraced for their character
this is my week TWO of The Warning adventure for me, THIS was my introduction,,the pain, the "feels" of insecurity rang so huge for me in Pau's rendition,,
This by far my favorite cover of this great song. I love the original yes but Pau gives it something different then most others do in their covers. She did a piano session of 3 of their own songs a while ago, only one of which is done live on piano, black holes. but she also did Stalker and The End both of which she is on the drums for, that and Dany usually sings Stalker and she messes up a few times each song and has no problem showing and being "vulnerable" while she plays for us. these girls love to play for us and show us they are "real" people to in these little interactions. glad you enjoyed it and have a great day and weekend
As a certain ponytailed drummer might say....fun fact: Pau is not only a world class on a kit, she is also the principal songwriter for most of their originals, writing from the piano. Once a song gets blocked out Dany and Ale build their lines and riffs from that while she figures out how to torture the drum set in New ways 😆 Love your channel Miki. ✌💖🎼
Very nice reaction. Interesting point regarding being slightly under the note at the end. Honestly, I think it’s an emotive choice…being slightly under actually adds to the angst in that line. Regardless, her choices in dynamics and tempo make for a very interesting cover thrown together in a couple hours. Just the ability to break down the song’s chord structure in that time blow my mind.
She's been playing the piano since she was 6 years old, it was her first instrument, she was train in classical music, go to the video where she and Danny were playing the piano at that age, they kill it... The warning has a couple of songs, where she only play the piano , like The End...
Just caught up with this. Pau is pretty raw and up front with this. As an emotive person, she can read a song *or write one* and deliver it with all the sensitivity it deserves. She can beat the hell out of the drums, or she can sing a quiet ballad with intensive sensitivity. The fact that she turns into the camera and yells, "YES!!!" at the end of this says it all. There are six songs she wrote that get to me every time I hear them. "23," "Revenant," "Show Me the Light," "Black Holes," "Survive," and "Breathe" are special. Most of the Warning songs are from Pau, doodling on the piano. When she has a skeleton, she shares it with Dany and Ale and they work out the music together. It's a special creative process that only very special sisters can survive.
Ms. PUH PAU Is A Classically Trained Piano Player.... I Think Dull Knives Acoustic Shows How PUH PAU Can Tear Up A Piano Just Like She Does A Drum Kit !!! PUH PAU !!!
Looking at your reactions so far, you seem to be avoiding their Teatro Metropolitan CDMX live videos, which not only displays their musicianship but their showmanship as well. They have GREAT audio, BTW. Surprisingly good for live.
My nephew was a huge fan of Radiohead. He was in a band for a while and they did RH covers quite a lot. I had intended to share this with him, but hadn't got around to it. I waited too long, as he took his life last month. I shared this cover to his Facebook page, mostly to try to help myself deal with the grief. His wife listened and loved it so much she included it in the music played during his funeral. As if it doesn't already break my heart every time.
All three sisters are classically trained pianist. The difference, is she only had a couple hours to learn this song and did it without music as a challenge.
At the time of this reaction, it seems that you were unaware that Pau (and her sisters) actually began her/their music journey with classical piano and were actually very good. There are videos of them playing on The Warning RU-vid channel. Also, Pau normally begins the songwriting process for the band on the piano.
You have to respect that English is not her first language, Spanish is and she does amazing!! Viva Mexico !! Paulina and her sisters are 🇲🇽 just amazing!!
Around 10:00 when you were discussing her being under the pitch -- I don't really know the song and it's not my cup of tea, but it sounded like you went into the major mode while she was singing in the minor, which sounded more appropriate for the song. Just an observation...
piano (as her 2 sisters) is her first instrument. She choose drums because the game "rockband", dany choose the guiter and ale few moments later choose bass
She has to know where her voice is she plays drums and sings at the same time she has been playing piano keyboards since a very early age and singer 5 or 6
When Sinatra's voice started to fail him, it's said that instead of showing off his voice, he explored the meaning of the song. Paulina has done that. By far, the most emotive, poignant, and heartrending version I am aware of. It's perfectly imperfect. Forget Radiohead. This song belongs to her now.
Here is a three song set She does on piano. Black Holes is her and the piano originally, Stalker is usually Dany but Pau is improvising on the piano. The end is all Pau but she is usually on drums with this song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FSDRCFQ5VEE.html
What the heck are you talking about? How does a song should work in "perfect pitch" in which you're singing "I'm a creep"??? This song is about dispair of the own imperfection - it would be ruined at all when be sung like opera. Therefore your "examples" where you hold the notes and let them fade out slowly doesn't fit at all to the message of this song. I guess that Pau is very conscious of using half notes at certain occasions and she reproduces them quite precise. To me, she nailed that song exactly as it is meant - and by her reaction at the end you can see that she knew it in that moment. It has been exactly as she wanted it to be - from this perspective she hit exactly the "perfect pitch". To get the point what I mean, check out the creep cover from Allie Sherlock - without a doubt she is a brillant singer and you won't find any note out of tune. But so she's standing there, doesn't know what she sings perfectly ... Bored with her hands in her pockets. ... Sometimes perfection is something more than following the rules...
I've honestly never liked this song...till I heard Pau sing it. The Radiohead version just doesn't make the singer vulnerable. He sounds like a freak or something...not a person to feel sad for. A well done song of course, but it just missed the mark for me personally. You on the other hand have a voice of brightness and sugar...EXCELLENT...just from the snippets you have sung here. While I think that female angst just makes this song come alive, your voice really isn't what would work for this. The singer of this song is lost in self doubt, anguish and unworthyness. Your voice just doesn't convey that. Theres no brightness here. The subject in this song could be one step away from suicide for all we know! Pau comes across as a young girl lost...pouring her heart out in this sad lament of teenage insecurity. It's a perfect fit. Whats even better? That big YES at the end that pulls us from the sorrow we were dragged into, as we suddenly get notification that...Hey, I'm not sad! It's just a song and I nailed it! :)
The rawness of her singing, the slightly out of tune piano and even that last slightly sour note all just makes it better. I think that last note not being pitch perfect is more of a stylistic choice actually. It's a song about teen anxiety after all
U have to love how every singer thinks there better then another band this group started 10 yrs and she did just fine she is one hell of a singer and one bad ass drummer.so I'm sure people have Criticized ur singing to
Michal Towber. I have watched for a long time, and I realize this is 2 years ago. I always wanted to ask you, do you twitch your nose? lol, you look like Elizabeth Montgomery. I am sure you get that a lot.
It'll be a sad day when the producers start pitch correcting The Warning or auto-tune during live performances. It's always been part of their charm and what separates them from cookie cutter bands. Great reaction......
Nice Wallpaper. Did you ever think of putting the video in all that wasted space? Terrible placement. Video cut off. BTW. She's the Drummer not the Guitar player.
You know what is very annoying Michal? You interrupt the video (which I understand) and YOU sing. We all know you won an Emmy. Why do you have to show off?
Come on....I love Pau, she's amazing drummer, but can't you just be honest as it relates to her voice? She's an okay singer, but for this song she's just screaming the notes. The delivery is not what the song calls for or how it was originally written.
