However, the Scattergun has increased damage ramp-up at distances of under 512 Hammer units, resulting in it dealing more damage than the Shotgun at close range. The Scattergun's first shell fires at least one pellet straight down the crosshair before "bullet spread" takes effect. When random bullet spread is disabled, the pellets instead spread in a fixed three-by-three grid pattern, with two pellets overlapping in the center of the grid.

The Flamethrower is the default primary weapon for the Pyro. It is a long metal pole, connected by a hose to a propane tank. The tank is attached to the pole via fastening bands. A continually lit pilot light can be seen at the nozzle. The trigger is made out of a team-colored gas pump handle. Upon pressing primary fire, the weapon expels a stream of roughly 33.3 large flame particles per second in a narrow cone, at a cost of 12.5 ammunition per second. Flame particles are not obstructed by enemies or buildings owned by the opposing team, making it ideal for attacking multiple enemies. The range of fire is very limited (approximately 340 Hammer Units when fired while stationary), but is capable of dealing heavy damage in close quarters. An enemy only takes damage from any of a single Flamethrower's particles once every 0.075 seconds. Unlike most weapons, the Flamethrower's base damage is scaled based on the age of the oldest touching flame particle, not distance from the target. This scale begins at 100% for new particles and decreases as they age, down to 50%. The weapon's damage also experiences a ramp-up based on how long an enemy is attacked. Damage begins at 50% and increases up to 100% in approximately 0.9 seconds. If the target is ever not in contact with any flame particles, the ramp-up resets. The ramp-up is separate for each enemy being attacked. Buildings are unaffected by the ramp-up. Critical hits are affected by both the age scaling and the damage ramp-up. Secondary fire causes the weapon to deliver a compression blast which deflects enemy projectiles, pushes opponents away, and extinguishes burning teammates. Deflected enemy projectiles deal mini-crit damage if they would not already be doing critical damage. If so, the deflected projectile deals critical damage. Each compression blast costs 20 ammunition, so it is possible to use 10 Compression blasts before needing to retrieve more ammo. Unlike the weapon's primary fire, the user can still use compression blasts if the weapon is directly in contact with a wall. Apart from direct damage, the Flamethrower also sets targets on fire, causing the target to burn and take additional damage for a short time. Pyros are immune to afterburn, but still take damage directly from the Flamethrower itself. A Spy disguised as a Pyro still receives afterburn. Fire can be extinguished by a Medic's Medi Gun, a Dispenser, submerging in water, friendly Jarate, friendly Mad Milk, friendly Gas Passer, a friendly compression blast, the secondary attack of a friendly Manmelter, a shot from a friendly Sydney Sleeper, charging with the Chargin' Targe, Splendid Screen, or Tide Turner, the Spy-cicle's special ability, the Dead Ringer's special ability, or any type of health pack. Afterburn from the Flamethrower reduces healing from Mediguns, Dispensers, and the Amputator by between 20% and 100%, with the reduction increasing in an inverse proportion to the amount of healing the item is giving. It also reduces the effects of the Vaccinator's Ubercharge by 20%. Using the primary fire of the Flamethrower on a friendly Huntsman-wielding Sniper lights his arrow on fire, and an enemy hit by this arrow afterward is ignited; however, the Pyro who lit the arrow does not receive assist credit.

Peashooter serves as the player's first line of defense against the zombies and is often the first plant the player unlocks or plays as. Peashooter's personality and character throughout the franchise has rarely been elaborated on, with the most stated on him is his high determination and perseverance in fighting zombies. His lack of characterization is likely intentional to reflect on his role as the basic unit of attack in most games.

The Stickybomb Launcher is the default secondary weapon for the Demoman. It is a modified grenade launcher with a large olive drum magazine, an under-barrel foregrip, and a wide barrel. A charging handle used to reload the weapon sits on the back left side, above the trigger. The Stickybomb Launcher launches small, glowing, spiked bombs that adhere to most surfaces, but bounce off enemy players, buildings, and certain map entities such as spawn gates or Payload carts. Unlike the default Grenade Launcher, stickybombs do not explode on contact, but can instead be detonated manually with alt-fire (default key: MOUSE2) approximately 0.7 seconds after being deployed; stickybombs signal the end of their arm time by blinking twice. Should the Demoman die, their stickybombs disappear harmlessly with a white flash and a burst of debris. Stickybombs pushed in this way temporarily slide across surfaces, but still eventually come to rest; stickies experience significant friction, causing them to roll to rest more quickly than grenades. The stickybombs are otherwise unharmed by the force of the blast and can be detonated as normal. Stickybomb explosions deal splash damage. However, blast radius falloff reduces stickybomb damage the further away a target is from the center of its explosion, even in the case of critical hits, with a minimum of 50% damage being done at the very edge of the blast radius. Stickybomb explosions can be used to juggle targets or throw them into environmental hazards.

In 1928, a U.S. Army 'Caliber Board' conducted firing tests at Aberdeen Proving Ground and recommended transitioning to smaller caliber rounds, mentioning, in particular .27 in (6.86 mm) caliber. Largely in deference to tradition, this recommendation was ignored and the Army referred to the .30 in (7.62 mm) caliber as "full-sized" for the next 35 years.[23] After World War II, the United States military started looking for a single automatic rifle to replace the M1 Garand, M1/M2 Carbines, M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle, M3 "Grease Gun" and Thompson submachine gun.[24][25] However, early experiments with select-fire versions of the M1 Garand proved disappointing.[26] During the Korean War, the select-fire M2 carbine largely replaced the submachine gun in US service[25] and became the most widely used carbine variant.[27] However, combat experience suggested that the .30 Carbine round was underpowered.[28] American weapons designers concluded that an intermediate round was necessary, and recommended a small-caliber, high-velocity cartridge.[29] However, senior American commanders, having faced fanatical enemies and experienced major logistical problems during World War II and the Korean War,[30][31][32][33][34] insisted that a single, powerful .30 caliber cartridge be developed, that could not only be used by the new automatic rifle but by the new general-purpose machine gun (GPMG) in concurrent development.[35][36] This culminated in the development of the 7.62×51 mm NATO cartridge.[35] The U.S. Army then began testing several rifles to replace the obsolete M1. Wyman, commander of the U.S. Continental Army Command (CONARC) to develop a .223-inch caliber (5.56 mm) select-fire rifle weighing 6 lb (2.7 kg) when loaded with a 20-round magazine.[24] The 5.56 mm round had to penetrate a standard U.S. helmet at 500 yards (460 meters) and retain a velocity over the speed of sound while matching or exceeding the wounding ability of the .30 Carbine cartridge.[47] This request ultimately resulted in the development of a scaled-down version of the Armalite AR-10, named the ArmaLite AR-15.[48][49][14] The AR-15 was first revealed by Eugene Stoner at Fort Benning in May 1957.[50] The AR-15 used .22-caliber bullets, which destabilized when they hit a human body, as opposed to the .30 round, which typically passed through in a straight line. The smaller caliber meant that it could be controlled in autofire due to the reduced bolt thrust and free recoil impulse. Being almost one-third the weight of the .30 meant that the soldier could sustain fire for longer with the same load. Due to design innovations, the AR-15 could fire 600 to 700 rounds a minute with an extremely low jamming rate. Parts were stamped out, not hand-machined, so they could be mass-produced, and the stock was plastic to reduce weight.[23] In 1958, the Army's Combat Developments Experimentation Command ran experiments with small squads in combat situations using the M14, AR-15, and another rifle designed by Winchester. The resulting study recommended adopting a lightweight rifle like the AR-15. In response, the Army declared that all rifles and machine guns should use the same ammunition, and ordered full production of the M14.[23] However, advocates for the AR-15 gained the attention of Air Force Chief of Staff General Curtis LeMay. After testing the AR-15 with the ammunition manufactured by Remington that Armalite and Colt recommended, the Air Force declared that the AR-15 was its 'standard model' and ordered 8,500 rifles and 8.5 million rounds.[23] Advocates for the AR-15 in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency acquired 1,000 Air Force AR-15s and shipped them to be tested by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN). The South Vietnam soldiers issued glowing reports of the weapon's reliability, recording zero broken parts while firing 80,000 rounds in one stage of testing, and requiring only two replacement parts for the 1,000 weapons over the entire course of testing. The report of the experiment recommended that the U.S. provide the AR-15 as the standard rifle of the ARVN, but Admiral Harry Felt, then Commander in Chief of Pacific Forces, rejected the recommendations on the advice of the U.S. Army.[23] Throughout 1962 and 1963, the U.S. military extensively tested the AR-15. Positive evaluations emphasized its lightness, "lethality", and reliability.[23] However, the Army Materiel Command criticized its inaccuracy at longer ranges and lack of penetrating power at higher ranges.[48][43][23] In early 1963, the U.S. Special Forces asked and was given permission, to make the AR-15 its standard weapon. Other users included Army Airborne units in Vietnam and some units affiliated with the Central Intelligence Agency. The Heavy Weapons Guy, more commonly known as the Heavy, is a towering hulk of a man hailing from the USSR. He is often considered the face of the game, due to his prominent appearance on box-art, promotional materials, and loading screens. He starred in the very first Meet the Team video, and has appeared in all further movies to date. The Heavy is the largest and arguably most dangerous class in Team Fortress 2 - boasting the most base health, combined with the devastating firepower of his trusty Minigun. This weapon can inflict huge damage at a very high rate of fire, allowing him to mow down opposing babies, cowards, and teeny-men in mere seconds. Being the slowest class in the game, the Heavy's movement speed is his main weakness. Upon revving up or firing his Minigun, his already unimpressive speed drops down to an even lower amount, making him a very easy target for Snipers and Spies. His sluggish speed makes him more dependent on support from Medics and Engineers to keep him actively in the fight. As a result of his burly stature, he also takes 50% less knockback from most damage sources - excluding Sentry Gun bullets. Aside from decimating entire teams, the Heavy is able to provide further support for his comrades with an often required health boost via his Sandvich, which, when consumed, is capable of healing him to full health. It can also be dropped to provide an instant 50% health boost to his teammates, systematically equal to a medium health kit. However, if the Heavy is not careful, an enemy may pick up the dropped Sandvich for a health boost of their own.

The RPG-7 (Russian: РПГ-7, Ручной Противотанковый Гранатомёт, romanized: Ruchnoy Protivotankovyy Granatomot, lit. 'Handheld anti-tank grenade launcher') is a portable, reusable, unguided, shoulder-launched, anti-tank, rocket-propelled grenade launcher. The RPG-7 and its predecessor, the RPG-2, were designed by the Soviet Union, and are now manufactured by the Russian company Bazalt. The weapon has the GRAU index (Russian armed forces index) 6G3. The ruggedness, simplicity, low cost, and effectiveness of the RPG-7 has made it the most widely used anti-armor weapon in the world. Currently around 40 countries use the weapon; it is manufactured in several variants by nine countries. It is popular with irregular and guerrilla forces. Widely produced, the most commonly seen major variations are the RPG-7D (десантник - desantnik - paratrooper) model, which can be broken into two parts for easier carrying; and the lighter Chinese Type 69 RPG. DIO of Iran manufactures RPG-7s with olive green handguards, H&K pistol grips, and a commando variant. The RPG-7 was first delivered to the Soviet Army in 1961 and deployed at the squad level. The Knife, also known as the Butterfly Knife or Balisong, is the default melee weapon for the Spy. It is a foldable stylized butterfly knife with a handle clip and clip-point blade. When holding the weapon while within melee range at a 180° radius behind an enemy, an animation plays wherein the Spy holds the Knife aloft in a striking position. Attacking at that point (even if the animation does not play out completely) causes the player to backstab the enemy, killing them in one hit unless the player backstabbed is a Sniper equipped with the Razorback or a player in any kind of invulnerability, such as the default ÜberCharge. In any other instance, such as when used from the side or front, the Knife deals 40 base damage, which is less than every other stock melee weapon except the Bat. Random critical hits do not occur when using the Knife. In addition to backstabbing, the Knife swings instantly once the fire button is pressed, unlike other melee weapons in the game which have a delay before the attack actually occurs. This lets the player react quicker in melee combat when compared to other classes. This applies to all the Spy's other knives.

The Swordsmachine is a Greater Machine and the first machine enemy encountered in ULTRAKILL. The Loose Cannon fires explosive, glowing cannonballs that travel 20% faster than the Grenade Launcher's projectiles, however, due to the Loose Cannon shooting a different projectile there is no difference in speed. Cannonballs explode faster than grenades, only having a fuse of 1 second. The bascinet - also bassinet, basinet, or bazineto - was a Medieval European open-faced combat helmet. It evolved from a type of iron or steel skullcap, but had a more pointed apex to the skull, and it extended downwards at the rear and sides to afford protection for the neck. A mail curtain (aventail or camail) was usually attached to the lower edge of the helmet to protect the throat, neck and shoulders. The Marksman Revolver is the green variant of the Revolver, and gives V1 the ability to toss coins into the air. It can be bought at the Terminal for 7,500P after obtaining the Piercer Revolver in [ 0-1: INTO THE FIRE ]. The Marksman Revolver appears almost identical to the Piercer Revolver but has neon green lights as well as a different interface that indicates the number of available coins. The display also indicates how long until each coin recharges, and makes an audible "ding" noise when one is available again that rises in pitch the more coins available there are. The primary fire shoots a standard hitscan projectile at a reasonably high rate of fire, dealing 1 damage. Holding down primary fire will cause the gun to fire automatically. All stock revolver attacks benefit from locational damage multipliers, dealing 1.5x damage on limbshots and 2x damage on headshots. It fires at the same rate as the Piercer and Sharpshooter variants. The alternate fire tosses a coin, with multiple coins able to be thrown in quick succession. A maximum of 4 coins can be held in reserve, with each coin taking 4 seconds to recharge when expended. These coins can multiply, empower, and aim hitscan attacks upon being hit, allowing for a truly impressive amount of strategies to be employed. If V1 moves left or right, the coin will move left or right with them. Finally, if V1 is falling, the coin will angle downward, and if V1 jumps, the coin will sail high into the air. The latter can be especially useful if one is trying to get multiple coins into a splitshot state. The Marksman Revolver's primary fire can be quite useful when used in conjunction with its coin-tossing ability. Tossing a coin and shooting it will cause a ricoshot, bouncing the shot off the coin and reflecting it toward the nearest enemy. This is capable of instantly killing or severely injuring most low-level enemies. In addition, hitting a chain of Splitshots allows you to quickly clear out a room of fodder enemies. This weapon is extraordinarily useful for taking out hard-to-hit targets such as Drones and Husks, with auto-aiming ricoshots and splitshots allowing for a fire-and-forget type of playstyle. Coins can be used in conjunction with other weapons as well, including the Piercer Revolver and its charge shot, the Alternate Revolver, the Electric Railcannon, and the Malicious Railcannon. Doing this has the potential to deal much more damage than the Marksman Revolver could ever do alone. Coin Punching can also be utilized to rack up damage multipliers and look stylish while doing so. It's not just a style option though, as certain strategies such as Deadcoining can allow for some of the highest damage outputs in the game.
