This book made me so angry, it made me smile, it inspired me, it rocked me... it was just a roller coaster. Now I'm on a one woman mission to make sure everyone who can reads this book and listens to, and learns from Yumiko's story.
So please go get yourself a copy...

Dr. Yumiko Kadota was a promising young doctor who had all the makings of an excellent surgeon, until the system itself and the teams she was on let her down. Driven to extreme burn out, physical and emotional trauma she had to leave her training pathway. A harrowing story Dr. Kadota takes you on her journey from medical school through internship and into her registrars years. Detailing her experiences with racism, sexism, and trauma at the hands of people who should have supported her.
Her story brought to light how junior staff, particularly ones not yet on a training program, are often forgotten and left to fend for themselves with brutal hours, exhausting rosters, and bullies. While it's not the story everyone shares, I'm sure there are glimpses of what she's experienced in every Jr. Doctors story.
In this video I attempt to put into words what this book means to me, debunk some of the only criticism I've heard, and essentially convince you to read it.
Dr. Kadota - if you ever see this - thank you.

What I'm Grateful For
Dr. Kadota, it breaks my heart she experienced what she did, but I am unbelievably grateful that she was brave enough to share her story.
