Emotional Homecoming: First British troops to be withdrawn from Afghanistan arrive back at Catterick

The first batch of British soldiers to be officially withdrawn from Afghanistan arrive back in North Yorkshire. The MOD has pledged to bring 500 troops back to Catterick this Christmas. This weekend 70 members of 1st Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's (1 LANCS) were reunited with family and friends. The move will reduce UK force levels in Afghanistan to nine-thousand by the end of 2012. Nicola Rees reports for BBC Look North, Yorkshire.

It makes me upset when people say that the troops don't suffer enough - ptsd, ill treatment, lack of research on what they did, so on. Sure war is awful, and it's up to you whether you like troops or not, but don't treat them like their worthless. They've been through a lot worse than many. I'm just glad these people came home safe and sound.

What the heck? How do the British not get crap in the comments like Americans do. From my understanding the US and great Britain fight in the same wars and do virtually the same things(other than the creepy us politicians). +Irene Lazar your a crazy one aren't you!, you do know that all of this is over now but only a few hundred troops still are in Iraq and Afghanistan training the police to fight off the remaining Taliban and including ISIS, and u said you was in iraq right right okay yeah sure what unit were you in?, what is the current oath we use in the British army?, name one formation that the British army use when setting up a camp? don't bother using the internet to search the questions that i ask'd that is just a plain dumb move and this video is so many years ago and u still comment on it, just stop, sounds like u have mental health issues as well god damn
