IIM team, these are fantastic messages. The only way to fully appreciate and soak in the concepts are when we can see the slides on the screen. The camera work needs to improve to ensure the slides are visible. Please please do not only focus on the speaker....we can hear what the speaker is saying but cannot see the slides all the time....I am a big follower of the musings....continue the good job!

If not for IQ these people will not be where they are. It follows that the connection between intelligence and emotion is not made in this discussion, rather they are looked at as separate and treat as separate. This will not work. (Manas consists of mana, buddhi, chitta, and ahankara, for now it is not necessary you understand these in any detail, just know that this is the equipment you have). Dealing with emotions requires one to self-reflect (panelists said this) to increase your self-awareness. One way to develop self-awareness is to sit down for 15 minutes each day and focus on the incoming and outgoing breath. Simply understand the dynamic breath. Practice mindfulness throughout the day in everything you do. For example, when you sit know you are sitting. When you stand know you are standing, Be systematic in your 15-minute sittings and your observations, just like a scientist would conduct an experiment. You have to evolve as a human being by yourself, it is a personal journey. Start knowing yourself and you will see that you are already better positioned to knowing others. Emotional intelligence will follow.

All this is just repeating what is in Daniel goleman’s books. And giving credit to Goleman for introducing EI ignores the thousands of years of our Indian history and texts like B. Gita and Upanishads which have taught about managing our emotions and awareness, long before goleman. Dear IIMB, your own Professor B Mahadevan would have been a better speaker on these issues.
