I can't tell which one has the more horrible fate, the psykers sacrificed for the emperor - or the emperor himself, having been made ultimately into everything he despises and trapped in undeath.
I believe he would hate the world that has formed after the events of the heresy. But the last priest of Terra did warn him this would happen as it’s human nature..
To be 100% honest i feel that this was the plans of the dark gods all along. They never really wanted to 'win' the HH. IF they did the universe becomes a giant eye of terror basically/more or less and its just a mirror of the warp - IE the great game. But to have the emperor chained to his throne, and have his subjects struggle with the darkness that is 40k generation after generation? They would feed greatly off of that - and after all that's what warp gods do. They want to be believed in, prayed to, feared, acknowledged. They could never kill the Emperor - especially after his visit to them and the powers he was granted many fold so they did the next best thing. Where there is total victory - there is no war but a form of 'peace' no matter how horrid. They lose power during these times. Just my head canon.
OK, this is an attempt at a slightly different style this time round. If it works out, then we can expect more of the same in this run, if its good. Never judge your own work, they say, or I would never release an entry. :) Sorry for the delay and I hope you like it. Obilgatory patreon link: www.patreon.com/join/3510517
In my personal opinion I do like the way the narrative was. Only in the wildest parts of my imagination have I dreamt of a people with their own traditions looking into the imperium of man from a different lens. It was without a doubt captivating.
fantastic work! one of the best emperor origin videos on youtube. so many just copy and paste from lexicanum, but you truly put the effort in to create character!
I thought the same, it's easy when its just a number but when baldy gives just one of them a story its suddenly horrifying. Reminds me of a comment attributed to Stalin (paraphrasing) "one death is a tragedy, a million, a statistic".
@@desolation11 There are a lot of people who say 10,000 as the number, because of the Golden Throne failing. I haven't been able to fact check that, but if you go online people throw all kinds of different sources around and a lot people agree about it. There could also be confusion between the number of sacrificed psykers to the Throne, and the trained psykers who "willing" power the Astronomican, of which about 100 die every day and need to be replaced.
Don't think that was the Astronomican. Pretty sure they were the lot straight up fed to Big E. The Astronomican is run by 10,000 of the strongest psykers and is generally described as being filled with silver light.
On holy terra born and raised. In the middle-east was where I spent most of my days. Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool And all shootin some raiders outside of the school. When a couple of guys who were up to no good started making trouble in my neighborhood. I got in one little fight and my mentor got scared He said 'We're making some Thunder Warriors before you start your little unification of this world."
This dude is the best...I want to start a movement to get Baldie on with GW and BL to be an author...like I want him to write lore and be canon...image a series of books on THADDEUS...and the White Scar and the eldar(drawing a blank on the red eagle and white tiger or whatever lol). But you get what I'm saying....
Here's a question no one has ever answered. Instead of the black ships giving pyskers to the Throne, how about they just clone them? Then just put the rest into service after the binding ritual. Like get a good solid shipments of very good grade psykers then clone them. When the clones start to fail or the genetic templates needs a refresh repeat. That way you don't have to worry about the shipments and it can be a bit more humain---- I just made myself lol at that. Nevermind.
@@320466 Explain belarus Cawl. Vat borne slaves are actually a thing. Cawl says he was created as one before his weird and absurd backstory. And if im not mistaken this is how space marine organs for new chapters are created when the high lords give the OK for their creation. May not be as long now with the raptor/primaris maker genesis vaults. IDK /nerd off
@@TKUltra971 dunno about Cawl (and his lore can go fluff (hehe) itself really) but new astartes chapters are created with stored geneseed that all chapters are obligated to give to the Imperium every now and then. No cloning there.
@@betchersgland7236 no, new chapters made. total new chapters, made with gene seed from mars. Then they have to go through lobotomized slaves or clones to check stability. This lore hasn't changed so you're not totally wrong. warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Founding
Your opening stories are so incredible. Some of the most powerful storytelling in the entire setting. Your stories perfectly capture the essence and feeling of the setting. You capture the MOOD so much better than the Black Library writers. You are amazing
Rogal: "Father, are you familiar with the expression- "you are what you eat"?" Bones: "The fuck?" Rogal: "Seeing as you are behaving like an ever-growing pile of screaming psychic children." -TTS episode 23
What a fantastic story to start off with. Most videos about the Emperor gloss over the fact he consumes psykers en masse, but here you've woven a horrifying, grimdark tale of what it must be like for those people to be dragged from their simple worlds and brought into the madness of the Imperium.
@@baldermort "Master of Mankind" is a "must read" for any WH40K fan. It gives the most information about the Emperor of any BL book. From his childhood, to the creation of what will be called the Custodies. The Thunder Warriors. His feelings toward the Primarchs. There is a scene where he asks one of his One Thousand (Custodes) what he sees that reminded me of a classic scene from the famous book "1984" by George Orwell. Read "1984" if you haven't already. The Emperor is Big Brother manifested.
That audio drama at the begining was truely powerfull. You truely have a way with words that paints the grim darkness. A fine intro to the master of terra, the most complex character in Warhammer. Interesting to see what the fully made god emperor will do in the 42nd millenia.
It reminded my of our current generation and the propaganda of these dark days. The females hatred only surpassed by khorne and slaanesh in their degenerate fever of corruption. The quota's and forced intergration and communists swarming the sky's like some tyrannid hive fleet. Darkness, darkness, they are coming.....
personal head cannon but what he said about the emperor/tribes makes me think of BSG's Lord of Kobal, 13 Tribes of man. With Holy Terra Being the lost 13th tribe. hell of a coincidence? maybe these shamans were the Lords of Kobal?!
@@FuckoffgoogleGetDoxxedCringe, truly the lowest of the low the dregs of society, no wonder why you type sit at the very bottom of male social hierarchy.
Maybe one of the oldest debates within the 41st millennium, A God or just a Man, what ever your stance there's no denying the Power of the greatest psycher of all time!
To anyone that hasnt, I suggest reading "The Master of Mankind". I love a good Emp vid! I am one of the few who sympathize with the Emp. As long as he was alive, I think he had succeeded, failed, been the good guy, the bad guy, the tyrant, the benevolent, he'd been betrayed, he'd been a betrayer, a sorcerer, so many things... Who are any of us to really even fathom what a person that is self aware for thousands of years watching learning and studying his fellow humans behaviours... We aren't very trustworthy creatures, especially en masse... He learned his habits somewhere.... GW has a gold mine if they ever decide to educate us all on why the Emperor is the way he is... Everything else is just opinion, but I'm team Emp and I don't judge him because he is correct that ignorance of Chaos can keep it away... But he did a piss poor job of managing that fact... He kind just "let shit happen" and wrapping himself up in the Web Way project didn't exactly give him free time to implement a way to maybe ease one or two of his son's j to the idea of Chaos... I don't know, like I said, GW has an entire book series waiting to be written. Thanks Baldermort, your videos are entertaining, an like one of the other commentors said.... You are up there with Luetin... Luetin is top dog for quality and good research...!!! Keep it coming Baldermort it clears we are all happy with your vision man!
Still judge him as a massive hypocrite who was ultimately wrong to hide the nature of the warp from humanity and especially his primarchs. See the Interex.
@@brigidtheirish just finished the interex ordeal... That was a great story... I almost wished they had survived, their xeno inclusive society left me with a lot of new questions...
@brigidtheirish well chaos tempts people sure you can say not knowing about chaos is what caused several primarchs and people to fall or you can say that knowing about chaos is what drives people to worship it there is relly no right answer there. As for the Interex they were screwed over by Erebus who stole there chaos sword despite the fact that anyone sensible would have destroyed or locked away a chaos weapon instead of keeping it in a museum I always kind of though the Interex kind of sucked we don't relly get to see what there empire is like other than there on good terms with eldar despite the fact that the eldar see most humans as lesser beings and don't tend to associate with them.
Big E- " Kitten, what's the menu for dinner tonight?" Kitten- " we have a delectable plate of low level psychers, followed by some Necromunchies" Big E-"yee!"
BIG E!!! Legend has it that Baldermort was the lone figure who stood between Horus and The Emperor. In honour of his sacrifice, they made him into the immortal servo skull we see now. Fantastic video, as always!
Even as a corpse, his grimdark existence and it's effects on everything surrounding it... Monstrous, horrific, cosmically nightmarish. I love it. My Glorious Golden Overlord T-T
I physically cannot comprehend how astonishingly fast your channel growth has been. It is honestly incredible. You definitely deserve it all and more some, however.
I hope I will live to see the emperor's reaction to the imperium and whether he succumbs to the feeling of utter failure or he goes on a redeeming crusade to make sure the sacrifices made were not for naught.
The horrors of War, the atrocities and tradegies. They are well known and an unwelcome companion. But this here, this frightens me. Repulsive. Great job Brother
This single act of needed to be fed human souls in order to live blurs the lines between the Emperor and the chaos gods so thin it'd be truly laughable if it wasn't so tragic.
Seriously it's just another dark god at that point, definitely not worthy of worship. Oh, you can make arguments for its necessity, that ceasing it would cause more suffering than to continue... but not worship, no.
Matt D would you rather be tortured every second as a soul for ETERNITY? Or would you rather die and be done with it? 🤔 I’ll take the man-god over chaos any day.
Can’t imagine the meat and sauce being a great deal sweeter regardless of wether or not it bares Black Library’s stamp. I’ve been getting to the point with the narratives in these videos that their consistent emotive depth and quality leave me wanting Black library to employ Baldemort. I feel that based on his grasp of the soul of this universe his work should hence forth be considered canonical.
Ranger Smith oh, crumbs no. Thank you for the huge compliment, but I churn out anything up to three stories a week. Those guys craft their product. The music and ‘voice’ make it sound a trillion times better than it reads. Also this is only my take on things. I am regularly proven wrong by experts in their niche or corner of the universe. I just have a broad idea and a wish to entertain and maybe update newer players or enthusiasts. Lol. ;).
Chaos Marines: My God is blood and war and has a hard on for skulls! Mine is eating your souls! Mine spreads a plaque through out the stars! Mine is pure sin! The golden throne: Yes
My Good Sir, your content magnificently entertains those of us... Grizzled veterans of the lore, and those new to it. Yet the wonderful duality of such dazzling verbosity is that it introduces passerbys on the nearly infinite byways of the web to this wonderful escape. Bravo Good Sir, Bravo. TTFN!
Every single bad thing to happen in the galaxy for the last 65 millions years can be laid at the salty feet of the edge lord necrons. Death of the old ones? Necrons. Vampire space gods? Necrons. Reason why most worlds are barren? Necrons. Chaos? Necrons did it. Daemons ? Necrons made them by starting the war in heaven? Orcs and Eldar? old ones made both when the necrons back them into a corner. And the imperium become a sad parody of what it was? THE NECRONS! BECAUSE THEY MADE CHAOS!
And all of this would have been avoided if the Old Ones had acted like the benevolent rulers they were supposed to be and helped the Necrotyr with their health problems instead.
@@R0230R would you help people who couldn't stop fighting each other and conquered and or exterminated entire spices? the fact that the necrons knee jerk response was to try to murder the entire species speaks of the old ones wisdom and foresight, not their arrogance. could the old ones have handled it better? maybe. But instead of getting their act together they declared edge lord war because they were butt hurt that they got told 'no'. That's an edge lord move.
@@smity739 Dude do you realise what an existence of constant pain(from birth) and the knowledge of a very short lifespan does to a person's psychi. now grantify that to an entire species and it becames impressive that they became Space fairing with all they had to deal with. honestly it's not a maybe; the Old One could easily make a deal with the Triarc to help the species out in exchange of them stopping their expansion. with the resources and power they had they could make sure the Necrotyr would keep their end of the bargain. the C'Tan are literally the result of the Necrotyr' desperation, which could be avoided if they were more careful.
@@R0230R Circumstance does not grant absolution when there are other options available. The necrons COULD have done a great deal of different less genocidal things other then try to mass murder the galaxy equivalent of neonatologists. They, as a whole, not a faction, not a single ruler, but the entire species as a WHOLE untied and got behind genocide. And yes, I know what it is like to be in constant pain, its not fun, but I didn't walk into the doctors office with an A.K. when they told me my insurance didn't cover my injury and would have to go through workman's comp, nor did I unite my neighbors and family to slaughter the company lawyers office when I was denied. In the end, we are who we choose to be. Our actions define us, not our conditions. And the necrons didn't just go after the old ones, they went after the species who the old ones helped. Its the equivalent of your neighbor not lending you his power tools due to you taking other peoples tools without asking, so you beat his dog to death and justifying it do to being in pain and telling the cops you should not be arrested because of an injury you have that your neighbor had nothing to do with.
@@smity739 Highly doubt you know pain and suffering of their caliber and since birth, or that you were rised in an almost hopeless and nihilistic culture/environment. yeah, even their aristocraticy lived in such a manner and viewpoint. also it's very easy to say that "circumstances do not grant absolution" when you are living in a perfectly comfortable position compared to the aggressor/once victim. the Necrotyr were in a brutal civil war before they decided to go in a war against the Old Ones, which would end in their extinction or a serious regression as a species, the Triarch simply didn't had many choices their other than to divert their aggression/focus to something else. honestly if the Old Ones weren't as arrogant as they were and instead were more careful, or at very least finished the job instead of leaving them to suffer a slow extinction, maybe the hole current setting of 40k wouldn't be as horrendous as we know it.
The most powerful of the perpetuals but didn’t like working with the others. A female perpetual named Erda gave him a unique gene to complete the Primarch project (and by extension the Space Marines). If the Emperor was their father, Erda was their Mother. And it was Erda who scattered the Primarchs.
kelman727 didn’t know that. I’ll have to research. Hells bells, the bugger all I know these days. I used to think I had a fair grasp of the basics. Lol. It’s soooo huge. :).
Wally PW Retcon is a bit of a feeble term when you apply it to something that was openly presented as conjecture right from the beginning. And to some people anything involving women in 40k is ‘controversial.’ Perhaps not people to be taken seriously.
@@kelman727 Its not because of Women. Its because the 'Perpetuals' are a stupid idea and are ruining the whole theme of Warhammer. And Retcon is the perfect term as it basically sets in stone the whole perpetual stupidity as well as changing the primarch creation and scattering mythos. Saturnine was a badly written fanfic and was about as useful as toilet paper.
11,000 years...approximately 40,150,000,000 souls...is The Emperor Of Mankind little less than a vampire in the mean of Slaanesh? Does Humanity understand what they worship? Or do they revel in the knowledge?
Apparently it wasn't always 10k psykers. It used to be a tenth of that or even less, but failures in the mechanisms of the golden throne and the weakening of the astronomican have necessitated greater sacrifices recently
Slick Jimmy Speaks I think that the humans that die without chaos corruption and also belief in the emperor go to him and his pocket of the warp to rest since the emperor embodies universal order so I imagine that it would be like heaven? Or just a collection of normal human souls in a cramped closet.......
@Lord Jay Psykers are rare probably 1 in 1000 or rarer but when you consider the untold billions of humans on thousands of worlds with some having a population of at least 10 times the population of our present day earth 10000 natural born Psykers a day is not too hard to maintain.
@Lord Jay I'm not a warhammer 40k lore Master but if I remember correctly yes Psykers are born like regular humans. They are gathered from imperial worlds as part of the imperial tithe and range from children to the elderly the imperium doesn't care what age you are and not all of the Psykers make it to Terra alive. Usually I think by the time the survivors of the voyage make it to Terra the majority are already adults elderly or dead. They are generally fed to the throne against their will and as for psyker uprisings it happens but not because of the sacrifices... Most of the imperium I believe don't even know about the sacrifices as they live in ignorance about the way of things. Imperial propaganda is so rampant and the authority of the imperium on its citizens so absolute that the average citizen does not even have the capacity to think outside of what the imperium tells them to know and believe.... Until of course they are exposed to something outside of those such as chaos cults or xenos influence. So uprisings by Psykers are usually just rebellion incited by other factors and is not at all related to the sacrifices to sustain the throne. Sorry if this doesn't answer everything I know some points but it's hard to explain (^^;)
My Lord Emperor. . .words can not express the level of pain and ardent devotion this character stirs up in me... my lord emperor, the dream is dead but mankind still endures, trough your eternal sacrifice and service to mankind, we endure. Praise be to the God Emperor of man!! blessed all in his service, Blessed be those that lay down their lives in His name, Praise be his eternal light and his holy servants, for only those stand between mankind and eternal damnation.. blessed be the which-spawn of the Empire, for every and any soul such as those , is worthy to comune with the emperor at His table.

It's the subtle things that add so much flavor to these narrations. The slow movement into photos makes me loss sense that I have been looking at one picture but it feels like so much more! bravo!
These stories are so good. The lore is fantastic as well. Is really the perfect mix. I can and often do just let the channels videos play. Never once feeling a want to forward or change the channel. Such a great job.

What is really interesting, is that the shamans were pretty much exactly what the entire Eldar race used to be - reincarnating super psykers. It makes me wonder just how unique the concept of a psyker gestalt actually is.
