I’ll just point out what I said on Facebook to a person who asked about the augment lances on infantry. If you’re taking it on characters, you’re silly. If you take the 3rd company elite and spend 30 points to give it to 20 tactical marines, and put a shrieker on an apothecary who joins them, you’ll become a god among men. You’ll have no friends either, so there are trade offs…
Third Company Elite is dope when you take an apothecary detachment. Give that unit of apothecaries shriekers and throw them on your blobs with sonic lances to double dip. If your group plays Zone Mortalis a lot, your lances wound T4 on 5s, breach on 6.
Well, I did get wrecked by about 20 outflanking Palatine Blades coming into my backline (where everything still was since it was turn 2). Then again I seemed to have missed the part where I was informed that 20 blade wielding maniacs were charging me from behind. Yes, my Terminators went out first because their weapons conferred murderous strike. Funnily enough, my heavy support squad was completely untouched. Moral of the story is: don't discount Palantine Blades just because they're a lot of points. In larger battles where your opponent has points isn't an issue, they can be extremely dangerous.
Hell yeah, been waiting eagerly for this. Got a nice set of MK IV waiting for me to pick them up at my local store and I was waiting to see those before making firm decisions on squad comp and weapon make up
Something I like about the Paragon of Excellence warlord trait is that it makes you very very scary to charge. Hold the line is a morale check, so if you succeed you get that +1ws making you a lot more deadly in combat depending on what you're fighting. I mean, with EC you really don't want to get charged at all, but it does help some
Phoenix terminators go from 1-100 realy quick when you add a herald with TH in my opinion. Give the terminators sonic lances and the herald a shrieker. Suddenly those 5 flamer templates are alot more likely to get that pin with the fear bubble. While also adding another buff to go with the heralds auras from living icons
@@Jackalos1 I would take a regular command squad as a retinue for my praetor with mainly thunder hammers with a banner. The fear from the herald makes the pinning from the sonic lances more reliable. They form a good balance paired together, especiallycoming out of land raiders.
The Phoenix terminators were not worth it in first edition, and with second edition I wanted to find something they could do. This is what I've come up with: Five Phoenix Terminators with Phoenix Spears and the Champion with the grenade launcher, lead by a Phoenix Warden with a Charnabal Glaive, all with Sonic Shriekers, and joined by a Primus Medical all bundled into a Proteus carrier is a 700 point Death Star unit that should be pointed at your opponents Line units. It's prohibitively expensive in games under 3,000 points but at 3k, its 25% of your army that is pushing your opponent off objects and drawing an immense amount of fire that would otherwise go elsewhere.
Same. I have 7 armies for 40K and haven’t played it in months because of the ABSURD creep. Love HH so far. Here’s to hoping Gw doesn’t rape this game as well 🤷🏻♂️
I think a Phoenix Warden with Sonic Shriekers and phoenix terminators can make a good amount of units hit them on 6s. The downside to this is fewer attacks. I plan on giving my tactical squad Sgt. phoenix swords because I believe that those weapons are best on any character that can take a power weapon. Thank you for the video and have a nice day.
Also "free Phoenix weapon" for the Phoenix Warden is actually a disadvantage since it would be a free upgrade anyway and now you're locked into taking it. I think the Champion is a better option most of the time.
RAW you dont even have to leave anything in reserve for Maru Skara. Says you may, dont have to. Subsonic pulser, mostly agree but Augury scanner doesnt ignore the BS penalty so there is something gained by it. Sonic lance agree bad for a character, but could be excellent on a big squad via 3rd company elite. 20 templates coming out of eg an assault squad Skill unmatched I think is a decent toolkit. Combined with sonic shriekers, you can make enemy WS5 units hit you on 6s, this is going to make you tough. Broadly agree though that Phoenix guard are a trap. I think Palatines can be rubbish but can also work v well. Take Power Axes and you've got AP2, make sure you charge and you strike ahead of enemy AP2, make enemy WS5 hit you on 6s. Its going to hurt. Very clever combo with Kakophoni & MoS.
One thing you are overlooking is that you only need to win the combat with EC. Then run them down with superior initiative. Let's take eildelon with palatine blades with jump packs. Issue a challenge and overkill whatever eidelon munches he should put about lets say 3 or 4 wounds. If you got fulgrim you get +1 another +1 if a living icon unit close by thats say 5. They are ws 5 with shriekers other guy hitting on 5's and you can make him hit on 6 with perfect guard. No way are they going to kill 5 or your guys
I'm planning on running a loyalist EC force. How would a praetor with jump pack, escorted by a bodyguard command squad, with shields and jump packs, do on the tabletop? It's more for fluff reasons, but still curious to see if it's viable
Surprised you ranked EC as a strong legion. Like you said, their unique wargear and Consul upgrade are kind of bad, and their unique units are equally horrible. In HH 2.0, the "secret" to winning seems to be spamming legion unique units, which are under-costed vs. their mainline nearest equivalents. EC are an exception to this.
With a few exceptions, HSS with Lascannons are exceptionally good at removing dreads and elite terminators. The dual Lascannon dreads are likewise very good at removing lots of enemy elites and dreads. In my opinion.
@@Mittens_Gaming - Not sure about the lasC HSS vs the Dreads. A full squad of 10 won't kill a single one in a turn. Meanwhile, the HSS will likely take casualties, reducing their dmg output. So you've wasted a force org slot to chip wounds off a Dreadnought that could be part of a talon (1 of 3!). A single talon of 3 Dreads will give 3 lasC HSSs a bad day. In the end, the HSS can't kill their points worth of Dreads, even when kitted out to do so. I hope you aren't one of those people that pretends Dreadnaughts are balanced while taking Fury of the Ancients.
@@Mittens_Gaming The EC can bring a squad of Sun Killers instead of the HSS. For the +85 points you get +1 BS and Precision Fire (negating cover saves, feel no pain, and shrouded).
Thank you for the Part 2! How would you go about kitting out a Veteran Squad or 2? and if one of those veteran squads had jumps packs (thank you to legio centura for that)
Sonic lance may be shit on a single character, but what if you give him shriekers and then lances to his unit? You could get A LOT of template hits from a 10 man squad, fish for the pinning like you say, and then get that -1 to hit when you charge in.
I’m sad that the Phoenix Terminators are so meh this edition. They’re so cool and in the books they are wonderful. I’m especially sad they can’t execute terminators like they did to the Ferrus Manus’s body guards
Nifty idea with the kakophoni /master of signals unit also here's why your wrong and EC are the perfect legion. Sonic Lances: on tac/assault squads these are absolute beast... even if you can only average 4 hits per marine that still going to put 7 Ap2 wounds on them. with that there's a good chance the marine squad you were about to charge is already almost dead and likely pinned or running away, or that terminator unit is at half strength and likewise pinned. on the flip side if you are being charged just drop those 3.3 ap2 wounds on them for the slight odds that they then fail the pinning check and are left stranded for you to shoot them again next turn, on top of that unlike bolt guns you can then charge with them so you can beat more face with your I2 power fists. Sonic Shriekers / Phoenix guard: Unlike most Terminator units actually work as a bodyguard unit, by using perfect defense vs any other WS5 legion unit (e.g. all of them) they are now hitting you on 6s, at the same time your characters can dominate the combat with there paragon blades/I2 thunder hammers and get a +1 to combat resolution from them. also yes palatine blades are meh =/
Hit and miss, clearly some of the things were written by fangirls/fanboys and you sit there going "what maniac thought that THIS needed to be stronger", other times you're like "this is perfectly reasonable, how did they not make this the standard." Then there's everything in-between.
The best unit and Warlord trait is locked off to them, but they are perfectly viable, Sunkillers are a solid addition to them as well, they do just fine.
