A Highlight of a customized 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special in Gauntlet Gray, rockin' the full Empire Collection. The goal was to have a bike that had a good amount of utility and also amplify the style to favor the custom bagger look. Genuine H-D accessories were favored. Things like factory color matched front fender, chin spoiler, chopped tour pack where installed. The newly, released Empire Collection graces all the hand a foot controls on the bike. Matt Laidlaw takes the bike out and gives his thoughts.

Nice walk through Matt, I bought a gauntlet grey SG special last year and have been customizing it similarly as your customer has. Was on the fence with the chopped tour-pak but after seeing it here, I'd say its just a mater of time before I head to my shop and place an order. To date my only complaint has been the ride if I hit a pot hole or some other harsh obstacle, may just have to explore the suspension you installed on this one since my back isn't getting any younger. Love your uploads and keep up the great work sharing what Harley has to offer!!

Love seeing bikes customers build. A small detail, but every time I see them, I always think those new HD turn signals are really great. I've put in a lot of aftermarket inserts, but these new HD ones are probably my favorite! Thanks for sharing this bike!

So on my 2020 RGS I put a stage 2 kit in and added a Bassani mid length 2 into 1 pipe. It still has the Harley tuner but runs very nice. I went all in on suspension by installing the Kraus inverted front end with their fly Moto bars and switched out the rear shocks for Ohlins. Also installed a feuling oil pump, camplate and lifters. Added a Lucky Dave's seat and some other small things and I'm very happy with it.

I just bought a 2022 road glide special in gunship grey, I went with the road glide for one simple reason. The steering felt lighter then in the bars and felt more like my road king that I was use to. Plus every one I know has a street glide and wanted the different.

Great video Matt as ALWAYS! One of the main reasons I when for on my Project Rushmore was the Chopped box in a color matched Morocco Gold look plus I feel that both Steve and Jaime gave it that extra special touch with the rear lighting on it.

🛑🛑 Matt…I was a little disappointed in the “roll out” of the CVO Bikes for 2022.. The power of the 117 engine is great, however now Harley is offering the 117 in NON CVO bikes; which takes away the “exclusivity” of the CVO Bike power plant. I think the motor for the CVO’s should have been “bumped” to the 122 or the 131, to add “excitement” around the model year; since Harley admitted that 2022 would be a “roll over year”💯. What are your thoughts??

I agree man. I don't know if you watched my recap video of the global launch but I wasn't overwhelmed by the CVOs this year. We have one sitting on our floor now and I can say the road glide looks amazing and is still an incredible bike but I think expectations are starting to rise after 5 years of the 117. I'm happy with them overalll though

@@MattLaidlaw Matt … I saw the video you speak of. If the CVO Bikes loose their “exclusivity” (motor output, and paint colors), then they themselves just become a Very Expensive Motorcycle, that no one wants to buy. 🤷‍♂️💯

Nice job Matt! I love the mods on that bike. About the chopped tour pack, I would love to see something that could shift forward and use the backrest for the driver on long rides, then move back for a passenger. That would make the bike profile much less like an ultra , better handling, styling, etc.

I think Harley is doing a lot better job of listening to its customers. I think a suggestion of adding a tour pack would be well received for the Specials. Empire collection does look great 👍🏽

Great video Matt. I did much of the same to my 2020 SG CVO Smoke Gray/ Black Hole. I have the Rinehart Black Chrome 4.5" Slip ons, 14" Factory 47s, and I put on a removable factory color matched chopped tour pack. Really looks nice and a full tourpak just does not look right to me. My suspension is the top of the line Progressive Front end cartridge and the KWD Rear shocks with longer travel on the rear. The suspension changes made a huge difference. Keep up the great videos

The Empire collection is sharp. Very nicely done. I'm a fan of the slim tour pack and think a CVO with one coming from the factory would be a good idea. I myself have that windscreen for most riding and the taller one that comes with the CVO Limiteds just for those times when I want to do a long road trip or winter riding. Easy to swap out.

I have a stock CVO Limited and I ride about 50% of the time solo and 50% with a passenger so i just leave the suspension turned to the weight of two riders, but solo it rides kinda bouncy. Would that self leveling suspension remove the need to adjust anything?

Definitely should come out with a bagger with a chopped tour pack. I currently have a 2020 Road Glide Cvo with a chopped tour pack and have had many compliments. Previously I have a 2010 Road glide with a Razor pack and also was complimented. Harley needs to expand there bagger series in a different direction to keep people interested.

Excellent video Matt. Superb bike. Thanks again. In my view, spoil yourself, get a stage 2, its not just the added power, it changes the sound and character of the bike. Get the upgraded Legend or other suspension, its a huge improvement.

Very nice bike looks good with the Empire Collection. I think be nice if HD had SG or RG with chopped tour a pack from the factory. I thought about an Ultra and putting the removable tour pack on it, so more of SG when not needing the storage. I got a RK with the 88 and I don't notice a lack of power, but then it the first Harley I have owned and the largest displacement engine too.

I love the bike but when I see it. Makes me think how a Road Glide would look done like that. I think H-D should do that to the special. It would give it that sport touring look as I call it. The special and the cvo is where I would use that chopped tour pack.

Great review of this build Matt. That Empire collection looks really good. I still love the Kahuna collection, so it would be between those two. How was the wind protection/buffeting with that 7" windshield? Do you have a link for your Simpson helmet with that visor? Keep up the good work my man. Ride Safe ✌️

Higher top box would be more useful. I have a 56 litre Givi top box on my current bike. Great place to store helmet securely as well as shopping.

Nice video Matt. Regarding the chopped tourpak from the factory to be included on certain models, don't you think HD has to walk a fine line as far as deciding which add-ons to include with a model and not wanting to cut into the accessories that the customer would buy from the dealer. Seems like they walk the line with performance - look what a simple cam can do for the performance of a bike. If HD models came with more of a performance cam dealers would be up in arms at the Motor Company for cutting into the dealer's add-on market. .

Yea, that is always a back and forth discussion with genuine P&A I would assume. I think there would still be a need for it on Road Kings, Standards, and STs. If it was on CVOs then that would only be a handful of overall bike production. The performance parts are often times omitted for emissions reasons to meet regulations in as many markets as possible. It's not always for the sake of an "upsell" at the dealership.

Do you ever stand while operating the motorcycle? I just saw someone with a road glide going down the highway standing on the floor boards holding and holding the handlebars. I see it all the time with adventure touring bikes.

I own a 2019 street glide CVO and I wanted to get some custom work done to a couple of parts. I went to Laidlaw’s and talked to a few guys including Matt and they basically gave me the run around and never called me back of contacted me about the work. I went in there on 2 separate occasions e we it’s no results. I guess I wasn’t going to spend thousands of dollars so it wasn’t worth their time to help me out.
