That’s BBC or PBS level documentary work there! Stunning cinematography and a script that is both educational and compelling. Very well done. Watching, I was somehow reminded of a book I read when I was a little kid, I remember the title being _White Patches_ but I can’t find anything with that title when I search for it. The story was about a boy who is magically transformed into an ant and learns all about the insect world.
Excellent, amazing documentary. I had being researching and recording footage of black ants in England under micro lenses for 3 years, i had even started a channel dedicated to it... but a emergency came up and i stopped before finishing editing and getting final footage, you have basically beaten me to it lol. Hopefully, in your next documentary you show the amazing construction of their nests. How these animals in a large healthy nest will even have a graveyard chamber, a toilet chamber, a waste chamber and even a "quarantine hospital" where sick or ill ants are put there alone in isolation to stop spreading disease and inspected 2 times a day by specific ants. You put these things under a microscope 24/7 they will amaze you.
YES! There were TONS of things that we wanted to include in this film but just didn't get the footage. Mostly things from a large thriving nest like you have described. Will certainly be coming back to the ants. Also if you like what we do we have a patreon you might enjoy.
Amazing. Thank you very much. If you like what we do please consider checking out our patreon. You can get access to exclusive behind the scenes content there!
Usually the colonies start with at least 3 queens that kill each other once their first brood has hatched until there is only once queen left with three broods. One brood is not enough to survive.
according Madsen and Offenberg (2017) "most colonies start with a single claustral queen." Now obviously nature being nature there is some plasticity with this. They CAN start with more than one. But for the sake of the film we decided to just go for the single queen.
