This is an Andover C.1 and the Andover has two Rolls-Royce Dart engines. It is not a Vickers Viscount.

Beautiful!!! These birds had a fan base in Brazil, they were flown by several operators including the Air Force. Love those Darts. Thanks!!!

Just to be accurate, the Andover C.1 was only operated by the Royal Air Force. It was never exported to civilian operators in Brazil. You’re probably thinking of the HS748 which was in fact, operated by VARIG in the late 60s to the mid 70s.

Sure miss hearing the '748s when Scare Manitoba flew them.

@@JetFlix I know, but they are so similar.

Isn't the aircraft a revised model of the HS748? Look at the forward fuselage, wings, and Dart engines. The upswept rear fuselage and peculiar empennage and vertical stabilizer make me wonder if the airframe is a model built with a ramp in the rear. I'd love to hear from an expert.

Yes you are correct, the Andover is an evolution of the HS748. They share a similar fuselage and wing, although there are very significant modifications: with the rear clamshell cargo doors, and the kneeling landing gear, which allows the aircraft to squat up and down, and the tail of course is much larger than the 748. The Andover was created in the late 1950s and early 60s to meet the short haul, transport needs of the Royal Air Force.

Thanks for all the interesting details! I just knew an expert would know the full story of this familiar yet really distinctive airplane. @@JetFlix
