Empire: Total War - Ottoman Empire Part 1 

I love this channel because his verbal commentary is identical to my internal monologue.

Cool thing I discovered, Maratha Confederacy will trade you Carnatia and some cash for Egypt+Palistine. This might at first seem a bad deal, but Carnatias tax revenue alone is greater then those two regions combined and it's resources will shoot your income through the roof while giving you a more compact and easily managed empire. it also gives you an excellent springboard to take all of India and launch trade vessels from. If you dislike the idea of surrendering Egypt and the Holy Land to the infidels, fear not. The Religous unrest in these regions is huge as no one in them is a Hindu. Some well placed Agents can start a rebellion in these provinces within a few turns and the Marathas are usually so tied down in India they are unable to send much to crush it. Then you can sweep in retake these from the rebels and the Mamaluks and maintain your trade with the Marathas. you'll be raking in 15,000+ a turn by round 10.

I've got an idea for you: Maybe you should do a series on "turn 1 starting guides". Like, you play each total war as each faction, but basically just do the first 1 - 3 turns, showing people how to get started. You usually get more views on the "first" video in a series, so doing a bunch of "first" videos could get you lots of views

With the Ottomans my favorite combo is a coordination between artillery and essentially human waves of sword armed Ottomans charge and overwhelm enemy positions while muskets rake the flanks.

Did my first Grand campaign with the Ottomons without realising it was one of the hardest. I made allies right away with prussia tho and together we destroyed Austria, Russia and Poland&Lithuania with great ease

I remember this game. My Ottoman opening was trading Morea for Bosnia. It's a great trade for you (higher income trivial to defend province), it prevents any war with Venice, drastically shortens your vulnerable borders, and really delays Austria from attacking you - so you'll face Austria and Persia only. Or you can take Bosnia back a few turns later if you so wish.

When I play as the Ottoman Empire Anatolia always rebels against me, even with pleasure gardens. If I exempt them from tax I lose a big chunk of my income. Any idea?

I've found you can sell some territory to Austria on turn 1 for 5k and get a trade agreement. Usually buys you 3-5 more turns before they declare war

first episode and i already like the lets play :)

This is my favorite empire faction to play, tons of units, extremely challenging but rewarding, and unique game play. Azzars are super good early on, they out-range line infantry and fire in unson, they also level up fairly quickly, Isarelys are pretty mediocre but do their job and can hold a line. MVP units imo are the camel gunners and Armenian archers which can be used to cheese and flank since they both do a ton of damage.

How did you get so many trading partners? I know the Ottoman Empire has the trading ports. However, my understanding of the rules has been that trade can only come in through ports in the home region and ports in one additional region connected to the home region by land. The number of trading partners you have assembled in the first turn seems way in excess of the port capacity of Rumelia and any one other region.

Would you recommend this game, or a different game all together? Debating

Austria would become an ally if you gave the land that they asked for, along with an offer to an alliance. It's an opening move I enjoy as Austria puts the money down for investing in the areas and later if they're wars turn to shit (with Poland for example) the nations that begin bordering you often opt to declare war on you ... essentially giving you a pass to take the land back, except upgraded. In the scenarios where Austria (winning or losing a war) turns against you as an ally, you get some bonus relations with their enemies and it opens up the opportunity again to take the land back. I've found on average it gives me sometimes a dozen to two dozen turns of relief on that front, to deal with everything in the East and with Venice more smoothly (or with less paranoia or headache) . I will say, depending on some circumstances, they will play asshole and dissolve an alliance and though they will accept entering back into it, it becomes an immediate red flag that shit is about to go down (they reveal their intentions)

I hope they will do another empire game someday.

Why worry about that AI artillery in the first battle? Just approach them from an angle that's perpendicular to their line of fire. They can shoot only in a very narrow arch given they're behind their parapets. Once the AI puts their artillery behind those, it basically becomes useless. In Empire, peasants work great when massed and ran through the enemy shooters. Once they have penetrated the enemy formation, press attack.

If you have mobs just send them into the enemy line infantry so they take the bullets and you're superior troops can get in position

I like it mate. The initial rejigging economically can make a huge difference early game. The length of battles in the older TW series is a massive plus for me and in my opinion game still holds up well, love the amount of detail. Lot less swearing so far......... fucking sort it out for fucks sake :-) keep up the good work

IIRC you can trade Bosnia for Morea with Venice turn 1. This way you close whole frontline, won't have a bunch of stupid wars for attacking Venice, and you can stand your ground against Austria immediately. This means just Persia and Austria fronts (also Georgia and Russia, but generally later), and Austria is getting gangbanged by everyone around them every time, so it's easy to just keep that border safe with undersized force. There are probably other province trades you can do. Turn 1 province trades in Empire are the most broken feature in any Total War game.

Never really enjoyed Empire, but the amount of detail in the game is amazing. CA should have took the politics and diplomacy features in this game and applied them to Rome 2.

Can't lose against the AI. Empty range units, isolate individual units, attack their depleted infantry with your full strength infantry.

Nah, I'm pretty sure that a lot of Turks actually do start with the Ottoman Empire. Your start year however is the 1700s. Which is better known as the "Stagnation and reform" era of the Ottoman Empire which was from 1683-1827. The golden ages of the Ottoman Empire were from 1453-1683. Better known as the "Rise" era. The English historians however use different terms for different times. They call the era from 1703-1789 "Old Regime". And they call the era from 1299-1453 the "Rise" era, which the Turkish historians call "The foundation".

You can actually prevent both Persia and Georgia from declaring war on you by selling Armenia to Persia in exchange for money and an alliance on turn 1.

actually if you sell bagdad to Persia with asking for a alliance and money they say yes all the time. same with geagia but don't ask for a alliance cause Persia rekts them turn 3. also start a rebellion in your capital and side with rebels you'll get ride of that god awful government. Persia later falls to India around 1730 so heaps of time to conquer Austria Russia ect.

lol when I play Ottomans on legendary (because why the fuck not) I go on the offensive against Persia, Georgia, Barbary pirates and morocco, and let the crimeans play cannon fodder against the Russians, hold off the Austrians and build a trade fleet and build up my ground forces to survive the grind fest until I can build a goddamn navy and dig in for marathan dick baggery.
