The employer doesn’t need a candidate’s permission to look them up online however, once they do so, they are opening themselves up to employment discrimination lawsuits
Although my background is clean, I do not apply for jobs that require background checks. Employers are just fishing or phishing for a reason to reject you. My rules: 1) Apply to companies with less than 10 employees. They can't afford the background software. 2) Be self-employed. I found out the hard way that applying for jobs is a waste of time because it costs me money. Credit reports for jobs are irrelevant unless you are applying for a job that requires a security clearance(People with a ton of debt may sell the country's secrets to a foreign country.). 3) Be mindful that companies look for anything that they can sell including your information.
Don't use this company! If you got a job offer and they use this company and the long wait caused you to lose the job offer then you dodged a bull*t because birds of a feather flock together.
