This has literally been my life for the last three years, 2 to 3 jobs a week, more then qualified for the positions.. cut because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time back in 2016..today it still puts a strain on my life.. the world is constantly evolving and time doesn't stop for anyone. The bill have to get paid and the older you get the more responsibilities you must take on... If you dont get in where you fit in quickly those position close and seal up fast... ughh... my life would have been so much different without those set backs

It is also clear to me (as it should be to everyone) that the technology evolution has gone unchecked, in terms of employers using social media like Facebook, YT, etc. and 3rd party verification services (as in this video) to further investigate job applicants. Years ago in my criminal law class, we learned that the standard of law is what a "reasonable person" in society views as worthy. When you cant use social media freely as social, non-professional commentary as intended, without worrying about potential employment ramifications...then the abuse pendulum has gone too far with employer snooping. Further, when a 3rd party verification company can get an issue date on a degree from a college/university, age discrimination can still be used against the applicant. Employers also run credit checks. It has been proved that personal credit info and job viability is not a associated behavior! A company with your credit history can give opportunity for data theft, along with internal unlawful company communication (eg. gossip). Please write or call your local congress person and push back on all this ridiculousness. Time for the pendulum to swing back more reasonably by creating laws for background check limitations and reflecting our social norms.

I completely agree, but I did meet an individual who applied for pharmacy school (which requires strict background checks), and he was flagged for a crime he didn't commit. It was a real pain in the neck for him, and he constantly had to deal with the issue, even though it was an error on his record. But again, I do agree with you. I clicked on this video hoping to get some insight about those who get turned away for jobs based on their criminal history. The EEOC website is a great resource for this, and talks about the differences between arrests and convictions.

you commit a crime (who hasn't?), you pay the fine and do the time, but background check condemns for life. The injustice of the back ground check is to treat human beings like they are not human anymore. What good are references or experience because a young and naive ex-wife of a drug addict got caught up in his misleadings over 30 years ago.

Well, a background check proves you been convicted of a crime regardless if the conviction is old and you served the times years ago.. Companies don't want ex cons working for them because most companies are criminals themselves.

Although I have never been in jail or prison, I don't waste my time with companies that do background checks. Many employers and people just look for an excuse to say "no". My advice is to apply to small companies with less than 10 employees. They don't have the money, resources, or time to do background checks. A second solution is to be self-employed. I have received too many rejections due to my math background.(Too many employers have dyscalculia and are intimidated in my presence.) I have used this approach since 1989.

Right-to-work is often misconstrued. It doesn't mean the worker has a claim on the job regardless of circumstance -- it merely means the employer cannot compel an employee to join a union or pay union dues as a condition of employment. In some states fair labor laws may aid workers with privacy and other rights, but right-to-work applies to a different context entirely.

Kinda cheesy. But the reality of the matter is if your name comes up in some inaccurate info on a background check you'll never get a chance to dispute it. They just say.."next"..and that's it. I know there are privacy laws and employment rights but those are constantly circumvented with no real way to enforce the laws or practical way to sue the violators.

They don’t call, they don’t text they literally send a 16 question essay format survey to your email with some of the most idiotic questions imaginable and expect you to take time out of your busy day to complete it. They don’t even attach the survey they just send it in the body of the email like some scammers would do. Yikes, all I gotta say about this company is yikes.

This video conveyed very well with regards to the importance of a self background check. It shows that not only companies or employers should do background checks. Individuals should do it once in awhile as well. One might not know that someone is impersonating, and that someone might not be the ideal person.

what happens if you told your potential new employer that you made 100k during the hiring interview but you actually make 95k. If they check for previous salary, do you think this could be a reason for decline? Is there a way to get around it if they question this discrepancy?

From what I read and understood, "Right to Work" states are prohibited from discriminating against people who apply for employment but do not wish to join a union. How does the "Right to Work" legislation affect ones right to privacy?

You don'[ have to be the one who did anything wrong to get a arrested and convicted. All that has to happen is someone accused you and you did not have the thousands of dollars it takes to hire a good lawyer to clear your name. Public defenders are usually so inexperienced they do not know how to defend you.

You're absolutely right. I knew a guy who applied for pharmacy school, which requires background checks, and he had to contest a felony on his record that wasn't his. +Kevin Vanderburg A background check does not violate your civil rights so long as you signed an authorization. You have rights under the FCRA. Employers must notify you when employment is denied due to a criminal record found during a background check and allow you to dispute it if it's not accurate. Were you notified? Employers have a duty to protect customers and other employees. Employers should weight the seriousness of the charge and how long agoo it occurred with the nature of the occupation. Did you have your record expunged? You can try www.careerandtalenthub.com to get former co-workers and supervisors to vouch for you, and attach the report to your online application.
@thomasduncan4074

I agree and disagree. Background checks are not full proof no matter how good they are. I've experienced that. However, I agree in the sense that you get what you pay for, and if you choose a cheap company to handle your background checks, then you're probably going to get a cheap result.
