Coming from Europe, it is so fascinating to see how the houses are structured in Canada and which features they have (bedrooms in the basement, heated garage😮 ). So curious to follow the journey on the renovations.
Straw Berry I live in a 1500sqft 3 bed 2 bath home. Roughly the same sqft of theirs. My electric bill is roughly $100 a month keeping my air at 67 in the summer and 73-74 in the winter. My gas bill is roughly $30 a month and my water bill is accumulated every three months and is about $50 a month. $180 for all three bills at the same sq footage. I’m in the US so I don’t know how Canada works, but if those three bills of your are half your salary I would look for leaks and you bills to make sure you’re only using your power. I should also add I’m a family of 4 plus 3 dogs.
Straw Berry it really depends on where you live in Canada. It varies DRASTICALLY. Closer to the bigger cities (Toronto, Vancouver..) it’s extremely expensive. I live about an hour outside of Toronto and the cost of living is very expensive, especially compared to the average income. More rural areas are usually more affordable. Canada is such a massive place, it’s really impossible to lump it all together 🤷♀️
Hey Delilah, if you want to put a garden in next year I highly recommend you rip all the stuff out and get your soil prepped (and then mulched) before your ground freezes. That way you can get started as early as possible in the spring! Because you have such a short growing season you really don’t want to eat up precious time getting the garden ready! You can throw raked leaves over the soil to protect it over the winter AND it will compost and add lots of good organic material to the soil to enrich it in the spring :) just turn it into the soil when the ground thaws!! Good luck💗 the house is beautiful!!!
As a side note, it might be worth throwing down some sort of netting to keep the neighbourhood cats from doing their business in your garden once it’s all dug up (I speak from experience 🤢).
Feel free to trim it...it will get bushier. And they really like routine in watering, not too much direct light. I rescued a 9 inch one at Christmas 1995, named him Adolf, and he has moved with me 4 times now.
Your so blessed to have such a gorgeous home. You could use the kid's favorite place downstairs as the playroom for now and use the upstairs room as your dining room instead of their playroom. There you can have your dining room. Just a beautiful home, so happy for you all. God bless hun, and enjoy the renovations.
Yeah I would use the “playroom” in the beginning as the dining room and then the little “dining room” in the kitchen as a little playroom. Because the kids can be around you playing while you cook. I remember that I never used my playroom as a kid and always brought my toys to where my mom was “busy” so I could have her company.
I don’t think that will fly. With kids as young as theirs, they really need to be on the same level as a parent. They have a lower level playroom in their current house and they often lament that they can’t keep all the toys upstairs where they’d get more use.
So basically your old house would fit in your new basement lol. I can't wait to see how you just completely make this house your own. So happy for you!
Congratulations!! In Australia it's illegal to have a pool without a fence around it because of how dangerous it is for kids. My sister almost drowned as a kid cause she slipped under the pool cover when my parents didn't see and it was so quiet - it was only because a family friend saw her that she was pulled out. So please please please consider getting a fence around the pool!!
I live in America and I don't think I've ever seen a pool with a fence around it unless it was public and those are only to keep people out who don't pay 😳 I've heard so many horror stories of kids drowning
Not just Australia! But in Canada it’s often a municipal issue. The city I live in requires a fence around pools. But it may be that where she is in SK does not. If I was them, I’d install one ASAP. Or, they could add a fence and gate for that little side yard behind the pool house and that would be one safe place they could leave the kids for a minute if they needed to run into the house. Similarly, they could put railings and gate on the deck to enclose it, too.
In Minnesota where I live it is a law that pools have to be fenced in. I believe it is a state by state choice in the US. I definitely was nervous when I saw the pool.
@Peanut it is slang. The best way I can define it is calm. Instead of "this is my dream home" where it could be read as being super excited and over hyper, the low-key is meant to add a sense of chillness.
Rianne Prystupa me too!! And I also felt terrible for them 😂😂 our last apartment had a bathroom that EXACT red and it took so many coats of primer and paint to cover it... and even when we moved out I still saw little pieces of red poking through lol
this house is so spacious and i’m so excited to see the transformation! it’s so interesting to see how different your house is structured than down here in Texas. we never have basements, it would just flood every time it rains!
This house is so different from anything I’ve seen. It’ll be intriguing to see what ideas there are to transform this home. I like the kitchen, would just change the countertops. Love the wooden pillars and the windows are glorious.
I think it's so funny how you talk about a rather old home being build in 1965, whereas here in The Netherlands you call a home old when its build before the war, and a lot of houses are even built long before that. It just shows the differences in cultures, which I love about youtube :)
About the lattice fence, I have one of those in my community garden, and we chose morning glories to plant around it. If you do not know, morning glories are flowering vines that come in all sorts of colours and I highly recommend them for any kind of vine use. I live in a slightly warmer area than you, but not by much, and although they are not perennials, they have so many seeds they might as well be. I highly recommend.
You have to be careful with morning glories! They are my favorite flower, but I learned the hard way that some types are invasive. They accidentally took over our vine vegetables once 😅
I love how thankful and grateful you guys are for everything. You account for the little things you didn't have before (counter space, a proper tub, etc.). It makes me sooooo happy to see your family grow. 🥰
So exciting! Congratulations to your family!!! I sort of laughed at the in ground pool knowing just how long and cold your winters are! One idea (which I’m sure you have thought of) maybe put the toy room into the attached dining area so you can see the kids from the kitchen and the living room, and then use the larger dining area/bonus room for dining? Congrats again!!!
This house is huge, precious, vintage, top, naturalistic, unique! I know why you fell in love when you met it in the first time now, I LOVE IT!!!❤️❤️❤️ CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS HOUSE AFTER RENOVATION!!!!🥰🥰🥰
I looove the house and I also love how you didn't go for "new built! everything modern and perfect and huuuuge! typical youtuber's house!" type of house haha I love you went for more cozy and unique house !! it fits your aesthetic so perfectly! congrats😭💛
If you are staying in the house long term, fill in the pool in favour of more yard space. You hardly have any summertime to use it, and with small children, it’s a drowning risk, not to mention the cost and time it takes to maintain it
Hi Delilah, I’m so happy about your lovely new and roomy new home. I live in Tasmania, Australia and two differences I have noted between us and Canada. One; we just call the laundry, “the laundry” not the laundry room. A funny discrepancy! ☺️ Two; our laws insist upon all pools being fenced. Glass fencing is so un-obtrusive and still keeps the garden looking spacious. As a mother of 5 children, I really appreciate letting the children out into the backyard with minimal supervision for them to play. Absolutely no insults or negative vibes from me to you, I wish you all a happy move, regards Susan. 🇳🇿
So fun! LOVE the house! It seems so much bigger than 1500 square feet! We close on our new house in 3 weeks 😱. It’s an MCM house built in 1960 and needs TONS of work, but we are ready to make it ours! LOVE unique “older” homes that you can totally customize! ❤️❤️
The house is amazing and will look even better when y’all make it your own! I live in Florida, where pools are very common and I would definitely recommend getting a child proof gate to surround the pool itself. Even with the cover on it can be super dangerous. (Also, this is zero judgement on parenting. Accidental drownings happen to the very best, most cautious Moms and Dads. My lifeguard heart just wouldn’t be able to rest if I didn’t recommend one to you) ❤️❤️❤️
In Australia, it's illegal to have a pool without a fence around it. I'm surprised this isn't the case everywhere! Super dangerous to have an unfenced pool with kids.
@@Emilu273 here you have to have the backyard either fenced or the pool screen has to have a lock but the child proof fence is not required, but I definitely think it should be as well!
I feel like the pool takes away from any room to play in the grass :( by experience i can tell you the upkeep of pools is a horror too. But the home is beautiful beautiful.. it’s amazing. I just miss your old back yard lol!!! But as long as you’re happy that’s all that matters!! 😁
Agree. I had a pool in one of the houses I grew up in snd we barely used it, but still we had to clean it (scrub and vacuum) once a week. Getting the water chemistry right also uses up a lot of products.
Full bath includes a tub. That’s considered a 3/4 bath with a shower. Amazing home!!! I can see why you chose it and I usually like the old Victorian style homes too! To many years of amazing memories to you and yours!! PS The red room would make a great theater room! That basement is fantastic!! And has air too! That pool cover was a fortune!! Is it kid proof? And yay slide and diving board are so cool! You’ll have the house that all the kids come to!
Wow. What a gorgeous house! Seriously a dream home. I love open plots and lots of natural light and the lowkey retro vive your house has is awesome. Honestly once you add your own renovations and decor this house really seems like it was made for you guys!!!
What an exciting time! I’ve been dying to see “the” house - I know you guys are going to make it so cute. I had a pool in the house i grew up in and I can’t imagine a childhood without one. Eloise and Theo are going to love it!
The windows are EVERYTHING! Natural light is a must! We live in Chicago and winters here like Canada are very long and cold so all that light will help!
The past few weeks I have been watching your videos from almost the beginning, so I am behind 😂 But just wanted to say, this house is beautiful. So happy for y'all!
Ps. I absolutely love y'all and enjoy watching your videos. I have a 9 month old, so I am thankful for how relatable and real you all are. Thank you ❤️
So happy for you guys!!! Im a silent watcher and ive been watching you since eloise was born. WOW you inspire me Delilah!! Aaahhhh i feel giddy!!! you deserve it!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful house perfect for your family!! It is very spacious and extra additional bedrooms downstairs is a plus. Over time you will put your own touch and renovate it will be wonderful🤩
"One day far in the future this will be a nursery: no, I am not pregnant". October 2022 came and this is so nostalgic now that you have 3 little ones instead of 2 ❤️
I like the character of the houses you pick. The stairs with the glass is so different, it really adds something to the house. I’ve been digging 90’s decor lately. The lighter wood everywhere is right up my alley. I know a lot of people don’t like lighter/orangish wood but I just think it looks so pretty!
Okay, just finished watching the house tour!!!! It is beautiful!!!! As you were going through the house and talked about Reno's, I was could definitely see you making it perfect for your family! Can not wait to see the coming vlogs!
Your new home reminds me so much of our house in Regina. It was a bungalow built in the late 80s with oak trim and cabinets, as well. We are still living in the prairies, but made the move to Manitoba...Winnipeg area. Enjoy your new home!
Idea!!! I know the in- ground pool isn’t ideal, but maybe you guys can use it for ice skating? Idk if that’s possible in terms of water or whatever the case, but could be an idea! Congrats you guys! So proud to watch you guys grow!
This is like deja vu for me. We went from 1,100 sq. feet to 2,100. I felt like it was huge and we would never, ever use that much house. Our house is dated, even 3 years later, but what it does have was very nice at the time it was done. Also, our yard is big, but taken up by a patio and most of it is in the front, so our little kids can't really play there. So while our houses are nowhere near the same, it brings up similarities. Also, I'm assuring you shoot with a wide angle lens, which is probably why everyone keeps commenting on how huge it is. I also think your new home is laid out very well and uses the square footage very wisely. Lovely home! Congratulations 👏
It's great that you get to upgrade your living situation. I'm sad though because I feel like I won't be able to relate to your videos anymore. We (family of 4 with two kids around the same age as yours) live in a small house around 900 sq ft. I don't like watching a lot of youTube moms living in a mcmansion type situation and that's why I enjoyed your videos so much. I could easily relate to your living situation before, I hope you don't lose yourself with this change.
@@kameronmoore2392 that's one aspect of it yes. I find it hard to relate to most youTube moms because my living situation does not resemble theirs. Watching loeppkys for the first time was a breathe of fresh air, a life I could relate to. Now she's gaining popularity, moving up in the world and her life is just becoming unattainable for me. Like most influencers today. unfortunately. It's wonderful that she's getting the things she wants in life but sadly I will likely have a difficult time relating to her going forward.
Consider a pool security system! My friend’s son ran out to the pool while he was being babysat and drowned. Luckily he is still alive but he lost most of his cognitive ability. Please don’t take offense to this, I don’t want you to think I’m mom shaming or anything! Just sharing some experience to maybe help prevent anything like this from happening to anyone else’s baby!
I suggest seeking out a company that has people who are CPO certified. They are trained on safety of pools and hot tubs. They have heard the horror stories and have the solutions.
Yeah as a lifeguard, I totally agree. Australia now has legislation like New Zealand. It is so important, it is so, so tragically common for young children to drown in home swimming pools, and a waterslide adds another very significant element of risk. I am so sorry about your friend's son, Madison, that's awful. I imagine it would be horrific to try and forgive yourself for something so preventable.
Delilah! Baths are a God send! Just think, stressful day, kids finally down, soak alllllll of the tension out! I do this after a looooongg stress day at work.
The house is aesthetically outdated but SOO MUCH POTENTIAL! Good for you. I find renos annoying (currently amidst renos myself) but it’s so worth it to personalize it and make it the way you want it.
Such space! How wonderful for you. So much potential. Still not sold on the pool, though you'll love it in summer. I hope you're close to a park or nature reserve. At least you have plenty of indoor space for the kids to run around in. The kitchen "island" is called a "peninsula" when attached like that and yes the basement bathroom is a full bath because of the shower 😊
I cannot wait to see how you personalize your new home! My home was built around the same time and is aesthetically very similar to yours. (Except for the red room, haha) Hoping to get some inspiration along your renovation journey. Best of luck and cheers from the east coast. ☺️
Every time i watch home tours from people that live in North America i am amazed how big houses are. This is biiiiiiggggg. Really really big and this hous is for midle class...this tipe of house is for rich people in my contry. But...it is a lovely house and i wish you luck 🥰🥰🥰🥰
The 3rd bathroom is full, I believe it’s called a three piece, you all definitely have a 3 bathroom home, which is simply lovely by the way. You all are so Blessed!!! I can’t wait to see the home after you all move in and decorate. Your smaller home was also fab. I love your style
A friend of mine made her small dining room feel SO much bigger by adding a bench that hugged the wall - really opened up the space, and added a lot more seating, while still having a great minimalist look and feel.
