"Empty Nest" is set in Miami and tells of the day to day misadventures of a widowed pediatrician, Harry Weston, and his two adult daughters, Barbara and Carol Weston, who have come back to live with him after failed marriages. Much of the humor is derived from Barbara and Carols' ongoing attempts, and failure, to find the perfect partner, and once again leave the "nest". There is also the skirt-chasing next door neighbor, Charlie Dietz and Harry's southern nurse, Laverne Todd, unique for her unbelievable Hickory stories.
Empty Nest is an American sitcom television series that originally aired on NBC from October 8, 1988, to April 29, 1995. The series, which was created as a spin-off of The Golden Girls by creator and producer Susan Harris, starred Richard Mulligan as recently widowed pediatrician Dr. Harry Weston, whose two adult daughters return home to live with him.

Richard Mulligan's last marriage was to adult film actress Rachel Ryan on April 27, 1992, which only lasted to early 1993. I thought all film and TV stars don't dated or married x-rated stars.

I loved empty nest. it was a spin off of the golden girls. pediatrician dr. harry weston was the golden girls' next door neighbor. my favorite characters on the show was dreyfus the dog, and dr. harry weston's nurse, laverne.

Carol also had played appearances on the Golden Girls. She was always a professional type, dating the psychiatrist on Golden Girls. I love her hair color-that auburn is amazing! She was special!

I agree. Empty Nest is one of my favorite shows and I was happy when it was in Laff. I was sad when it was taken off. Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, or Max should buy the rights to the show

It's not a spin off-Estell was asked to play Sophia on this show at the same time she was doing Golden Girls. She bounced back and forth. The spin off to Golden girls is Golden Palace without Dorothy

@@LoveGodOutloud This IS a spin off. They were the neighbors. The series even had a backdoor pilot featured in the Golden Girls. This is the reason they also have tons of crossovers between Golden Girls, Empty Nest, and Nurses. They all take place in the same universe and were advertised as such.

Parke Overall plays a classic curmudgeon and plays it very well. She was my favorite supporting cast member.

Park Overall is a former U.S. Senate candidate. On April 4, 2012, Overall entered the Democratic primary to become the nominee to oppose Republican incumbent Bob Corker. She stated that she planned to focus on the environment, as well as women's issues, opposing the Senate transportation bill's Blunt Amendment, which would have provided a religious exemption for the Obama Administration's contraception mandate, asking, "Why is my womb attached to a transportation bill?" She criticized various measures introduced in the Tennessee General Assembly, including Stacey Campfield's "Don't Say Gay" bill and Richard Floyd's bill that would have forced transgender people to use restrooms for the gender listed on their birth certificates, stating that such legislation was meant to "denigrate" and "inspire fear." She also accused Republicans of "poisoning" the Nolichucky River through lax environmental regulations. On August 2, 2012, Democratic primary, Overall garnered less than 15% of the vote, placing a distant third behind conservative Mark Clayton.
