Emptying The Kirby 519 Bag

After being completely serviced, I have used my machine a total of three times. Now, it is time to empty the bag. Normally, they recommend you empty it after each use, but you don't have to. The main thing is to not let it go for very long, because accumulated debris will restrict airflow and leave odors behind. I always recommend emptying a vintage vacuum bag outdoors or in a garage if possible. You can use a newspaper to empty the dirt on or, as I show in the video, a huge garbage bag.

Man that thing really picks up! And I can see you're very obedient about emptying it correctly and often! You're a true Kirby man through and through, very well educated on how to properly use and repair these machines.

Thanks, man, that means a lot. I still learn something about them all the time from guys like you, Kirby Enthusiast, Vaclab and Performance Reviews, etc.

Literally do this about once a week with the 1965 Kirby Dual Sanatronic 50 I have, one trick I do to prevent it from smelling musty is I put some Downey Unstoppable scent beads in at the beginning of the week which prevents it from smelling and has a nice fresh scent after I am done vacuuming with it :)

That's a good idea! I have used dryer sheets and scented oil. I empty this vacuum about every three or four times I use it. When the weather is great, and I feel like it, I remove the bag outside and use a shop vac to clean it inside out. Here's a tip for emptying it and making things less messy: I always take it outside on my deck or front porch. Lately, I will remove the nozzle and shake the bag, because sometimes dust will blow right back through the nozzle, anyway. I then use a shop vac and suck out the tray after shaking it several times and use the shop vac to clean the fan and spindle. Then, I put the nozzle back on it. With the shop vac running while shaking the bag, it sucks the dust in to keep it from flying everywhere.

@@mattjones7621 I’ll admit shake out bags are completely different from the bagless type of systems they use today but are far simpler since there’s no filters the need to be cleaned or replaced on a yearly basis, and best of all is the dust doesn’t fly up towards you unlike most modern bagless vacuums when you go to empty/dispose of the dust :)

@@seana806 The only time the dust flies up is when the wind is blowing and I am shaking the bag with it removed from the machine. Other than that, it isn't bad.
