The Pink Windmill needs a good clean, so Rod decides to do the vacuuming. What could possibly go wrong?
This is the first episode from the third series of Emu's World, which according to the BFI website aired on Wednesday, 2nd March, 1983. The songs are Climb On Board to a Dream and Showtime For Everyone - both originally by the New Mickey Mouse Club (which I don't know a great deal about because I don't think it was broadcast over here in the UK). It wouldn't be the last Disney song performed by the Pink Windmill Kids, making me wonder whether there was some sort of deal in place.
(Please remember that this is an old VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.)

Yeah, it was a great way to open the series, and it set the tone perfectly. Showtime for Everyone is one of my favourite routines, too!

even though it is around 30 years since emu's world started i remember it like it was last year. even the theme tune was still in my head. i always felt sorry for grotbags as she never managed to get her hands on emu. although im sure that in one episode she did capture rod and emu. although they managed to escape.

The show had a completely different feel to it before it went to the live format, didn't it? Giving Grotbags *two* useless assistants in 1985 was a masterstroke, in my opinion.

Quite a debut for Sarah Stone! On her very first show appearance, she has a major speaking part with Rod. It seems that the powers that be knew she had star potential.

Absolutely - it's interesting to see who they trusted with lines (and solos), and Sarah was never going to let anyone down.

@@VideotapeFTW They really trusted her! I don't recall any PWK as young as she was here having that much dialogue all to herself. And of course, throughout the years, she proved to be solid as a rock...or should I say, a STONE!

Here are the PWK for Series 3 (I might be wrong on a couple of them - thanks to Jane Oluer for helping me out here!), and there are 25 in total: Aaron, Adele, Anne Marie, Anthony, Aysha, Catrina (her shirt was labeled as Trina), Daniel, Debbie, Emma, Emma-Louise, Hope, Hugh, Joanne, Kate, Liza, Lorraine, Mark, Natalie Payne, Natalie Pennington, Neil, Robert, Sarah Jeffs (her shirt was labeled as Sarah Louise), Sarah Stone, Spencer, and Stella.

Happy to help! Some of the lesser known kids' names were taken from random RU-vid comments mentioning their names (like Robert & Stella), so yeah, those definitely can be inaccurate.

Hi there, I have an earlier series on VHS. I have been meaning for years to get it put onto a dvd, so i promise i will try to do it. I use to go to Pattisons who did the earlier series, i think the one i have is from 1980 or 1981

Helen Hall Wow - if it's the series with the kids from Pattisons, then it must be the very first series of Emu's World. That's the only series we don't have any full episodes of at the moment! I'll happily transfer it to DVD for you if you like - no charge, of course, and all tapes will be returned. (All the Emu vids on this channel were transferred by me, if you're worried about the quality of the job.) Hi Helen, VideotapeFTW here has built up a truly impressive back catalogue of pink windmill clips and full length videos over the last few years unearthing some great finds along the way. Some of which from others like yourself who needed help to do that vhs-dvd transfer. You wanted to be a Pink Windmill kid? Good choice! This is very embarrassing, but when I was little I wanted to be a Mini Pop (Don't laugh). Remember that show? It's good to see that these kids were allowed to be kids who sang age-appropriate songs... and didn't wear more make-up than Boy George.

Grotbags did indeed capture Rod and Emu a couple of times, but then always managed to mess it up at the last minute: /watch?v=8OU8LSWdR08 /watch?v=BGKz_oEDhuo She just wasn't cut out for being evil, was she? And lumbered with such hapless assistants didn't help...

Fun fact: the Mini Pops sang the theme tune to Wacaday. :-) I know some people sort of loved to hate the Pink Windmill Kids, but they always seemed to me to be nice kids having fun. Looking at them today through adult eyes, they're definitely far more wholesome role models than the majority of youngsters seen on children's TV today. Not to mention that if more viewers were inspired to recreate such energetic dances (as we were), perhaps the next generation would be in far better health!

The only one I know about is Disney Club in the early 90s, but that wasn't really similar as far as I remember (more a forerunner to the Disney Channel). Not sure about anything earlier.

VideotapeFTW Yes, that's the one. If I remember correctly, the children didn't really take centre stage because there were adult presenters, and of course no-one wore the infamous club ears...

I think it was just like any other Saturday morning show, except that all the cartoons were Disney. (Not necessarily a bad thing, but I always preferred the Looney Tunes and MGM 7-minuters.) I don't really remember the kids being a big part of it, either.

+Tularis Hmm... Good question! Kelly, Sarah and Abbie all first appeared in 1983 and were there at the very end in 1989, but all three missed episodes along the way. I think I'm right in saying that Sarah had the widest span from first appearance to last, but Abbie clocked up the most episodes in total.
