Yep they were. It's truly a shame that they couldn't keep the group together. They could've had a successful Vegas residency just like Boyz II Men. Honestly, I'm not interested in any En Vogue project unless it involves all four of the original members.

Dwayne Martinez it has happened to many groups fighting over money producers , fair management. 3lw , 702, xscape destiny's child swv total and when members date the producers they always side with management to protect themselves forgetting about the other people involved.
Oh my gosh. These women were FIRE!! When Dawn and Maxine left, it CEASED to be En Vogue. IMHO, there has NEVER been, and there will NEVER be a quartet at this level of vocals at this calibre EVER!!!! Sigh........

Cindy married well to a "David Justice" type baseball player and Terry was dating one of the rich producers that owned the group so of course they were not worried about money. This group was NEVER the same once Dawn left. They lost their edge.

I'm glad to finally hear Dawn articulate her side, because, for a long time I held a grudge thinking she just left bring a brat. Turns out she had legitimately justified concerns. I wish these execs weren't such greedy bastards. I love ALL of En Vogue.

Terry was so content with the pay that she even toured w/ Beyoncé and Toni Braxton as a background singer. that alone should validate Dawn’s point. The common denominator of En Vogue breaking up is Terry and Cindy’s willingness to accept less than what is deserved, and it looks like they’ve found the girl that’ll finally go along with their BS... yes, i’m referring to Rhona.

Yeah they couldn’t band together to renegotiate terms for the albums because Terry was on the side of the producers. Touring is the only way the group can make any money. Now they have to tour all the time just to have income coming in, so that is a good fit for someone like Rhona who can get a steady check instead of a 9-5. In the long run , too much touring devalues the brand because it’s overexposure and there becomes less of an insensitive for fans to buy tickets if they either just seen you in their city a few months ago or you can predict that they’ll be back for you to catch them another time

Producers are crooks...it's so sad to know that as successful as they were, they really never benefit from it. That producer deserves to go to jail...using people to make money, what a shame

Sadly most of groups and artists at the time we're given terrible deals I.e. TLC and Xscape. It seems to me Terry and Cindy didn't want to rock the boat even though what was going on wasn't good. Dawn and Max only wanted it to be fair.

She seemed scrambled, her car overheating but her spending her money on in-vitro, not even bother to showing up to the reunion? This doesn't take away from Dawn's talent. She was a mess on R&B Divas LA. But that's how they edited the show. As for Wendy. I love her but she's just talk like every other gossip analysts or blog cuz that where she gets her information from. I love the group as a whole & w/o Dawn & Maxine. They got an amazing song out now. But I definitely don't hate on Dawn & Maxine. They were smart about the business & wish them nothing but the best.
That's how that business goes when it comes to black ppl, you get the fame but you don't get the proceeds off your own talent that actually runs the label . Max is still gorgeous so is Dawn, I can't believe she really talk like that, she sound soulful when she sings .
The drama is relevant to today because most people never knew that Dawn left the group bcuz they were getting robbed and she only wanted them all to get what they deserved. Who would continue to let someone rob you just bcuz your group member is sleeping with your producer? Why did not Terry want more for herself...after all she and Denzil Foster never married. Also as far as money Dawn knew being in a group meant having to split the money 4 ways and if you don't write all of your songs you don't get writers credit, so you aren't going to make a gazillion dollars like one thinks they should. En Vogue made some money. Dawn wasn't satisfied though. She wanted to make money like she was a solo artist. Dawn chose to leave the group. Why didn't she go out and make that solo artist money if since she was that concerned about making more money? She definitely had several opportunities to do so. It's amazing how she keeps blaming En Vogue for her mishaps. En Vogue has moved on.
This breaks my heart. These ladies were such an inspiration and such a force to beckon. I'm sorry for what happened to them. They were obviously hurt by this. This line of business sucks. It just sucks. Together they were explosive in a good way.
When Dawn left the group, I thought she did it because she had gotten bored, big headed, and wanted to pursue a solo career like so many other lead singers had done. I actually thought the powers that be had pushed her into lead position because of her beauty and youth. Glad to know the real reason. And to top it off, she's the youngest! In fact, they all had her by a few years!!
I saw Cindy on stage in San Francisco years before En Vogue fame. I thought she was a teenager. Her sister (Carmelita) was far more "interesting" to me visually. It was recently I found Cindy is actually a couple of months older than I. She from what I've seen still looks the youngest. She'll be 56 soon, about 2 months younger than Obama, and about 2 months older than I.
Say what you want about Dawn but I applaud her for having the balls to stand up for herself. Wrong is wrong at the end of the day you have to look at yourself in the mirror
First time I heard EnVouge I was 10 or 11 and I fell in LOVE with the group.. The song "Don't Go" had me in a trance, as a kid! I don't care about all the befores but these ladies need to work their issues out. EnVouge was vocally the best female R&B groups of all time. (my opinion)
It was a very mesmerizing song, lol. Dressed in loose silk draping fabric swaying in rhythm together in the desert while Terry sang and the rest harmonized in the background, cooiing "don't go" seductively, almost like a lullaby. So sexy 🥵
Also I recall an interview a few years that Dawn gave to Vibe when she joined Lucy Pearl..She again mentioned that the group was not making money and she EVEN had to convince a member (she didnt say which one) of En Vouge to go on welfare and assited her with the paperwork. Botton line.....this group was not making any money and Dawn tried to address it but they didn't listen.

+Emma Jones Yes. There are two valid reasons why the group didn't make any money. First off they group did not right ANY of their hits. The production company (I know its two guys , one that was involved with Terry) wrote all the material for the group so they got the money from the songwriting angle. Second eventhough the contract was bogus people forget they all came from OAKLAND....That's the highest real estate market and im sure money was always an issue ...The Bay area is an expensive place to live and the four couldn't afford the lavish lifestyles they thought they should be making. PlusTerry and Cindy (at that time) were involved with men who were millionaires so i'm sure money was no issue for them.
I think the person she was talking about was Max, but it could have been Terry too. Because their pay was so bad, Terry had to tour and as a backup singer for Toni Braxton in 1999

And its so easy nowadays for singers to go broke. They do not have a record contract anymore, cant afford the house or property taxes...they have 4-5 cars and the cannot get booked for high profile gigs anymore. I remember after Dawn left, that was a huge deal and it just seemed to us at the time that En Vogue was really over because it just wouldn't be the same without her.
That is what the music exec's, lawyers, managers all count on... that the talent has no clue about what they are supposed to make. You can't even trust your managers, lawyers, or accountants. So many people were victimized because they did not understand contracts and how the expenses are paid or how the profits were distributed. For a long time, groups rarely made any kind of money on record sales or publishing rights. Most groups made their money touring and selling merchandise (unless those rights were wrestled away). I am glad to see how the internet got back at the industry and how artist can keep more of the money they earned.
Looking at the new En Vogue with three members is like watching Home Alone 3 with the kid that no one even knew who he was. I’ll never rock with the current En Vogue group.
They all would make GREAT solo singers!! It breaks my heart to see what happened to these beautiful and mega talented ladies. I won't give up, hoping that they will wise up, and get back together only NOT in the wicked music industry, but go independent.
They were not getting paid what they were worth. Dawn stood up for that. And I think Maxine also. The other two ladies seemed to not feel so strongly about getting paid more. That is too bad.
This is an example of why there aren't many or groups of today's that are not together. The entertainment business is so messy. You see more solo acts today than any.
If all four would have stuck together being on the same page......they would gotten what they wanted or another label would have picked them up quick! Because it wasn't the same once Dawn, then Maxine left.

i didn't understand why Terry did an album. She wasn't that big of a singer in the group! None of them in my opinion were. They were a group of lead singers who did better way better together than solo.

Goddess Lee Yeah I must say ... the last few years have given me a different view of Dawn. My opinion of her is not as harsh as it once was. Like Shalamar , New Edition and a lot of R&B acts, they were doomed by virtue of how they started out. If you listen to the interview Dawn did with Lady Charmaine you really get some interesting insights. Truth be told, I see Terry and Cindy's side and I see Dawn and Maxine's side, too. Too bad they can't meet in the middle. What I wonder is, why after all these years are they STILL working with Foster and McElroy? EV3, while not a masterpiece, was a promising new direction and showed they could work with other producers. I don't understand why they never truly branched out. I think that held them back.

I have to put my 2 cents in! I love EnVogue the original 4, I have always admired every last one of them. They are hands down the best girl group ever! I think it is a real shame that they are divided. I wish these classy girls could have given us one final album. Sadly sometimes seasons end. . EV4 forever.

In my opinion, the other members, as in the current lineup, are En Vogue. Cindy and Terry have been in the group the whole time, and never quit willy nilly. So yeah, En Vogue is the current lineup.
Something about Maxine's voice sounds like home. This interview just made me look up her bio. I never knew she was from Jersey! Now that accent makes sense. ♥️
