What is the current state of financial inclusion in Africa? This panel convened sector-specific female leaders from across multiple generations (from the genre-breaking 1990s to the tech-savvy 2020s) to explore Africa’s financial ecosystem and its payment journey in democratising the basic access to money. How have women in the informal economies borne the brunt of exclusion over the years and how things are changing with more players - and more female leaders driving them - in the financial services sector coming up with intervention strategies to serve the financially underserved? From the cash to cashless societies of the future, what are the strong movements taking place for the economic empowerment of women? And in that, what are the opportunities that leading female financial mavens across generations have seen or are seeing in formalising the disadvantaged ‘for good’ so they have financial freedom and participate meaningfully in Africa’s growing economies?
