I think going with an existing flame font might help too. fantasy fonts are usually pretty bad, so it might take a while to find a decent one, but since you'd only need numbers, the improper spacing of characters that is so common in amateur fonts wouldn't be as much of an issue. Though I have to admit, the numbers look better on the actual rock than I'd have expected. The material imperfections from the engraving process make for an organic feel that mitigates the faults of the design.

@hedronrockworks
@hedronrockworks Год назад
I’m not sure what is easiest. They all have challenges. D12 does not have meet points. So it’s hard to get all the faces even D10 is pretty easy D8 makes me pull out the table adapter for a very small facet to save the fingers from the sharp corner D6 is easy shape wise but has a really big faces. D4 maybe this is easiest. But I make them pretty complicated

I think you have something that could be big in more then just DND, this is something that's interesting. The issue is you need it to be a bit more accessible. If you could add susinct descriptions of what you are doing. IE: "This is the stone, to rough out the shape, Im cutting it into a _________." "Next we will be moving onto ______ grit, for _______." If you lower the barrier to entry like this, people will stay for the craftsmanship. You have 131k people who are interested in this enough to not only watch videos on it, but find the channel in the first place, I don't think you really have many more people available who even know what to look for. I stumbled upon the videos trying to find some nice dice to buy, and stayed for the craftsmanship. RU-vid has to see that and be promoting you, but if someone doesn't understand what is going on, they are much less likely to stick around. Im not your manager, life coach, etc. I just think you do great work and I want to see you succeed. I personally think this would help people like me, who don't know how this sort of thing works stick around. Again I stayed for the craftsmanship, I have almost no idea how you are achieving it. Maybe a caption to learn how things work as you are doing them lol. Much less work then recording your voice after the fact and editing it in.

You can unwrap in different ways in Blender, including making your own seams to get UV layout you want. That way you can skip aligning islands in photoshop. Is just a regular icosahedron, without bevels you added to your die, enough for a mask? I did not notice that geometry in blender.
@hedronrockworks

Im really curious. Have you every considered doing this with Industrial Grade/Artificially made precious crystals? Like Ruby. You can purchase a huge piece of Artificial Ruby used for Laser Lens's.......chop it down and turn into dice. You could potentially try it with industrial diamonds as well. Ive been looking for precious stone/crystal dice for a while.....and NO ONE makes them. I understand its a huge waste/risk to use a real stone for that (also probly not big enough, and if it was....super super expensive) but......using artificial gems for this purpose seems like it would be pretty affordable. Its just no one seems to have thought about it yet. Please let me know if im not understanding something obvious or not thats a deterrent from making these kind of dice.....but it just seems like the way to go for me.

Just found this recently and it's super interesting! You do a great job both with carving the dice, and with making a compelling video approachable by people with zero knowledge of how you would carve a stone or gemstone. Makes me wonder how a decent-sized piece of quartz I found recently would look as a D20, but I have no idea if it even has the structural integrity - it looks like it might have some cracks in it. I have no idea about stone integrity for carving though, and the quartz will probably just end up on a shelf.
