In this video, you'll learn how to monitor traffic between two devices in a network using SPAN, RSPAN, and ERSPAN. These features of your Cisco Catalyst switch make up topic 4.4 on the CCNP Enterprise ENCOR (350-401) Exam blueprint.
This week's video was taken from a live ENCOR class conducted earlier.
Enjoy the training!

You're such a legend for putting CCNP level stuff on YT. There's a glut of CCNA, but not enough advanced stuff.

Very last port of a module switch, is reserver for SPAN/Port mirroring. It is nice that you share real life info like this Kevin. Thank you!

It will be so nice if you set CCNA CCNP on diferent groups, CCNA 1 group CCNP an other group...,asier to study. Thanks for everything you're doing 🙏!!

Hello Kevin..Have some confusion about the ERSPAN config. In R2 ERSPAN config, source interface is gig2 which is getting connected with monitored device (as per the topology)..but this gig2 interface can connect with switch and from that switch the monitored devices may get connect with lets say gig1/1 and gig 1/2. Requirement is I want to monitor the traffics coming from those 2 switch ports gig1/1 and gig 1/2. Then on R2 what should be the source interface or ERSPAN config.?

hello how do we perform the configuration of ERSPAN if the analyzing device is connected to a switch instead of it connected directly to the router as well as the traffic from PC being monitored if connected to a switch then to a router?

hi sir ,please my question is that can we configure span and rspan in the network?

Great Video - I have a question - What if you had 2 switches with monitored devices and the analyzer is on one of the switches. What should we use?

figured it out.. round about.. used 2 different rspan vlans & 2 sessions on the local switch. example rspan 1 is vlan100 rspan 2 is 200... so local and other switch that had devices we wanted to mirror used vlan 100. the core that didn't have any devices had 1 session looklng like source 100 goes out to dest 200 remote spans. The switch with the analyzer had a 2nd session coming in as 200 to the analyzer ports.

I tried this exact same setup on packet tracer, however, when I entered the configuration "monitor session 2 destination remote vlan 200" on switch 2, it wanted me to add a "reflector-port". What should I add as the reflector port? Thanks.

some old switches need to "sacrfice" a physical port in order to loop the traffic from it just enter any unused port

Hey Kevin, thanks for this very good explanation and demonstration!

Good Tutorial - I was a bit disappointed that your diagram at 8:27 in to the tutorial was not the actual ERSPAN configuration you show cased. Is there a way you could give us a look at that topology example . ALSO- Can you speak to ERSPAN working with switches down stream that only understand RSPAN. thanks

Thank you Kevin for producing this video. I have your ENCOR Course, but the lesson on ERSPAN only shows the ERSPAN source configuration. It does not have the ERSPAN destination configuration, which I think should be included. I appreciate the videos you share on RU-vid. You are good at explaining technology.

Thank you for the video. One thing that all videos are missing is that, in case of SPAN, do you have to configure destination port or it just has to be no shut.
