I went on these DMU's in Auckland when I was young. I don't want them to retire I want them to keep going because they're lovely and they're doing a wonderful job.
I went on these ADL DMU's heaps of times when I was young and I love the comfy seats on them and I want these trains to keep going because I love them so so much and they're beautiful.
Can’t believe it’s nearly the end of these faithful DMU’s, I will make my own tribute to them but probably not until the end of this year/beginning of next year.
Sad to see these ADLs go😔. I did ride both morning trains today as part of the End of an Era celebrations, might have even passed you Alex! For a train that's been serving for 30 years, they still look relatively new, a bit of TLC would bring them back very nicely. Riding the ADLs took back to 2013, when I was was a little boy visiting NZ for the 1st time. Do you know what will happen to the ADLs now?
When I saw that SA set I was like WTF, then I had to check the date. Will be sad to see these old relics go. I maintain you cannot beat a 6 cylinder big cam Cummins as a mode of transportation
Most of them are 40 years old. They still look modern thanks to the refurbishment done to the whole class 20 years ago. So externally they look in great condition, but underneath it they're facing mechanical problems as the parts get older and are fetching high kms. 2 units have already been stripped for parts
@@HotForgeChaos Maybe they could do a run just to a terminus at Mercer, also servicing (re)established stations at Pokeno, Tuakau and possibly Buckland? And then running an express to the Strand and only stopping at Papakura, Puhinui, Otahuhu, Penrose and Newmarket? Or if the southern line it too congested; just those listed until Penrose and then the Strand via the eastern line? After-all; this is a large catchment of people most of whom commute into the greater Auckland for work and who are not served by Te Huia.
