But he's not being honest is he? It's not his fault Kadri did what he did. It's not his fault the coaches played the wrong players. He's barely been the GM for a couple of years, how is much of this his fault? He's just publicly taking responsibility to take the heat off Babs and players. But make no mistake, behind closed doors reality will be spoken. Personally I'm not a fan of this...it's just a bunch of theater. I'm not sure the alternative, public drama, is the answer either but I'd prefer they would rather say nothing than lie the other way. Just say "we're not happy, we'll have internal discussions, we all made mistakes, we'll go forward trying to fix this". This BS I take responsibility for everything stuff from Dubas is just trying to make everyone around him that failed him feel guilty and at the same time impress his boss Shanny. Can't stand that kinda crap.

What REALLY bothers me about Kyle is his answer around 4:30 mark. Game 7 is not just another game.You can learn a ton and i mean a ton about your players and their capabilities in a high pressure situation.You should never ever take that lightly.They made that mistake last year.No way Jake Gardiner should have been here this playoffs.Not after last years game 7 and certainly not after being booed by his own crowd.He is damaged goods.He handles the puck like a grenade.So afraid to make a mistake .Same goes for William Nylander.No chance he should be here next playoffs after that performance this series and especailly game 7. Learn from this its crucial.Kyle your words are empty and meaningless.You want to take responsibility than do whater it takes to fix your mess.You fucked up by telling Nylander that he has a long term future here.He doesnt have a no trade clause.Let Jake walk and Trade Nylander for a bloody defencman.Its not rocket science.

It took the NYR 53 years to win the cup in 1994 and 2020 will be year 53 for Maple Leafs but the Rangers went out and made amazing trades to win cup that year, can't see Leafs making a team changing deal at 2020 trade deadline to put them over the top

I'm not Leafs fan, but I'm a Kyle Dubas (he's from my hometown), and fans need to understand that this is a process to build this team to the point where they'll be contending every year. Dubas made mistakes his first year running the Soo Greyhounds and no doubt he'll learn from the Nylander contract situation. That guy is not the player that they think is. Good on Kyle for stepping up and accepting responsibility. He just needs to add some grit to that team. Josh Leivo could've been a factor in the playoffs, if he had stayed.

I love all the Matthews Fanboys. Watch the tape of all of his shifts. The reason that he and Babcock don't get along is that Matthews just doesn't play hard shift after shift and game after game. He lacks serious compete far too often during games. For example....the first Boston goal in game 7. He is immensely talented and the frustrating part is that he doesn't combine that talent with a desire to compete every game and every shift. It's not about playing time. It's about compete and effort.

Gotta love that he brings up junior level hockey achievements to compensate for a big failure in the big dance. You panicked with Nylander. A guy with balls would have made him sit the year and focus on the major parts first. Anyone holding the club ransom needs to be left in Europe watching t.v. for a season. You panicked and now this will come to hurt us. Get rid of that poisonous contract and move on.

When you are at the highest level of the food chain, it's too easy to take all the blame because no one can challenge you on it. How can he blame himself for the PK when he added Muzzin, a defensive Dman that didn't performed up to his expectations. The players are to blame, period.

William Nylander had 54 regular season games to get into game shape. To free up money for their young depth, I wouldn't mind the leafs trading him for some prospects or defensive toughness. They already have other young players who look just as capable/promising (Kapanen and Johansson).
@200rray
@200rray 5 лет назад
If he keeps Babchoke around, this team will keep losing in the first round of the playoffs every year guaranteed. Every year Babchoke stays is another year wasted of the primes of these great young players. They've already wasted a three year window with all of their young core on entry level contracts. They can ill afford to waste anymore with the crusty old red headed con man behind the bench. He hasn't won a playoff round since 2013. The last 10 times he's been in the playoffs, he's 1-9 in the first round. Of the 6 times he's had 100+ point teams, 2 of them didn't make it out of round 2 and 4 of them lost in the first round. Nuff said

That Boston series the leafs choked in the final two games but I thought even through that they outplayed them for more of the series than Boston did to them. Everyone has their opinions but gardiner is gone and I think hainsey might be as well. Rosen is ready and despite his age I think Sandin might have a good shot at cracking the lineup. Sub those two guys in the lineup and you have lots more cap space. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Kadri and Nylander if he doesnt start off strong next season. Bracco is another marlie that could easily be subbed into the lineup next year. Marleau's contract is pretty heavy as well for what he brings. Nothing against Marleau. Love what he does for the team but at 6 million a year in a tight cap team theres not much room for a contract like that. It'll be interesting to see what happens this offseason and if Dubas has the balls to pull off some necessary moves.

Thats all going to come down to Marner, if he leaves it up to his Father and Agent to decide Marner will not be a leaf next year because the leafs wont pay what his Father and Agent think hes worth which means he will be offer sheeted and leafs get 4 1st round picks for him if he takes one of the offer sheets and leaves. If he makes the decision he wants to be a leaf and is willing to sign for what he should be worth comparable to other contracts of 9.5-10 Max then he will be back, but its anyone's guess

Prob is they scout & sign the same type of players because of a lack of skill in the organization before. Now they don't block shots, hit and can't fight their way out of a paper bag.
@jonnygrey3497
@jonnygrey3497 5 лет назад
They did alright blocking shots in the regular season with 3 guys in the top 40 league wide but they didn't do it as much in the playoffs, but the hitting and physicality wasn't a problem. They out-hit Boston with 35.6 hits-per-game(249 total) to Boston's 33.1(232 total). That's against Boston, one of the biggest and most physical teams in the league. It was the special teams that killed them, especially the PK. Postseason rankings after the first round - PP Goals: Boston 3rd(7) - Toronto 10th(3) PP %: Boston 2nd(43.8%) - Toronto 10th(18.8%) PK %: Boston 7th(81.3%) - Toronto 15th(56.3%) Only Tampa Bay had a worse PK% than Toronto through the first round. Special teams killed the Leafs, and some players floating around when they needed to play hard and some bad coaching at key times.

2:40 Kyle's raised eyebrows when being asked if he can trust Kadri moving forward tells me Kadri won't be here next year. And sadly, as much as I've always liked Kadri, I believe it's time to let him go to another organization where perhaps he can find a better fit where he won't feel he has to be the enforcer (of sorts). I think Brown moving out and having Enzo take his spot would also be beneficial (they both have good drive but Enzo has more talent - however, I don't know if they will be able to afford it). Well, that's my armchair critique for the season end. See ya'll next season (if I'm still interested after 50+ years of the same ol' same ol' (with the exception of a few seasons)).
