"The war might be over, and those leaders might be shaking hands, but that mother is still waiting for her son to come back..." I read this quote on a different video and i started tearing up.
@@Golmar_227 you are absolute stupid. No peace with punishment. french asshole just want revenge for their own failure. At the end of world war II, the Americans did not punish Germany, on the contrary, they rebuild Germany to become their ally. See the different. Fuking stupid
Well isnt really hitler's fault at all cuz in WW1 a british soldier saved him... if he knew that hitler was that bad he would shot him ..... but this is history cant change it :(
@@waltraudwappl541 The further we are distanced from these events the easier it is to make a joke of. It's sad to see, but it's only going to get worse as time goes on :(
@@TheGalterinone I agree, now after 5 weeks of basically being stuck in my house with no work, I am a little more emotional than usual but all these scenes, despite being dramatisations, really got me thinking and got to me a little. Now I'm sad. I would never joke about such scenes as so many others here have done. Taking the piss out of the Frenchman and his soup. Soup is a literal lifesaver in shitty conditions, then he got shot dead dreaming of it. Heart-strings twanged for me there.
@@chouaibben1600 are you joking? Every empire killed millions of people, French, British, Russian, etc. And no, the French are not the Mazis, they were a constitutional monarchy at the time
My German maternal grandfather fought in WWI. He was so disgusted with the war that when the armistice came he threw his rifle to the ground, turned east, and walked home.
But your grandfather volunteer to join in the army in the first place so for what he felt disgusted when war started nobody forced him to join in ?? Unless he was a civilian not a soldier than he can felt digusted when war started
@@aizatjunaidi69 these were lads, thinking of honor and glory in war. Do ya think they would teach them about the reality of war? Of course not, nobody would volunteer if they did. So he does absolutely have the right to be disgusted
Man this hits home. My grandfather fought in this war. Mr step-father in Vietnam. And I have 2 sons that are in the military today. One at Ft Campbell and one a Ft Hood. Thank you to all the men and women that give us the freedom to be who we are. And all of those that were lost. Bless this country and bless all of our soldiers.🇺🇸
My uncle was a soldier in Vietnam war and he was in the North/ winner side. He died in duty in around 1970 and his body had never been found. I was born in early 90 so I have never met him, but from my grandmother stories he was a calm and nice man. To me soldiers of both side needs to be respected. In my country we have cemeteries for Southern soldiers and people took good care of them. Luckily Vietnam and US are now friends.
In France, every village has its "monument to the fallen" with the names of WWI soldiers KIA engraved on it. A couple weeks ago, I was looking at such a monument (I often do), where the date was mentioned as well. There were maybe forty names on it. The last was dated December 10 1918 . I guess that he died from wounds he had sustained one month after the armistice. But the one before him was dated November 10 1918. Killed maybe not on the last minute, but on the last day of the war. It immediately made me think of this video. For the record, he was called Jean Guat.
@@Lischofph36rd0r You never know if that soldier had the knowledge of the war ending in only a few minutes. For all he could know, the war could last another year.
Billy Gil Music sad thing is if they didn’t go against the USA the soviets wouldn’t have had enough equipment for all their men and Germany could’ve met their goals
Imagine making a short film dedicated to those who died in the final hours of the war just to have all the comments be about a french guy wanting soup.
The concept of this short is brave. The distribution is super. But the names on th endscreen was shocking. I never thought these are not just hypothetrical could have been stories but real events.
33kaus holokaust unfortunately that is off the mark, the soldier in question actually believed he had failed his unit days before and felt it was his last chance to clear his name and charged anyway despite as shown warning shots being fired
@33kaus holokaust Only in the first two years in the war by late 15 and even into mid 16 the idea of charging a position was seen as outdated. The Germans answered with their stormtrooper tactics, and the British began to develop early combined arms between tanks, arty, and infantry. Matter of fact the only country by 1918 that still used the mass attack on an entrenched position was the United States, since we choose not to accept advice from the British and French on how the tactics had changed.
In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead, short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. - Lt. Col. John McCrae
I think those last hours must've been the worst part of the war knowing all youve been through is about to end but knowing it could go sour at any second is just terrifying. The fact they didn't want to kill theyre foes because they wanted to get home too just shows the love that could've been but was taken by sad little leaders

rest in peace everyone who died in the last minutes of the war. who were unable to enjoy the end of the war, celebrate with friends and return to their families.
I have a soft spot for soldier as my dad is a war veteran who served on the front lines. Soldiers are just people, with dreams and lives to live. Just being ordered by generals who dont care about them. I love all soldiers and those who served in the military. Respect those who died, everyone.
The reason it was a big deal for him it's cuz back then they didn't get free stuff it was hard even when you had to pay so for them to get free hot soup is good now shut up with the soup jokes
@@vasakvasa2929: Several American commanders ordered major attacks in the last few hours. In one battle over 800 casualties were sustained taking the small French town of Stenay because it had mineral baths and Gen. William M. Wright though his men would enjoy a bath later that day. In fact the loss of life was so bad that Gen. Pershing had to face a House Committee to explain why American soldiers had died taking ground they could have just walk onto after 11.00am. Pershing lied about when he knew of the Armistice signing and in the best traditions of US politics the whole matter was covered up. Officers on all sides, many thinking of future postings, kept the war going and thousands were killed and wounded within a few hours of peace.
sentinel531 that wasn't the brits it was he Americans because they just joined the war and the American officers wanted to see to action so they could say they they helped when they got back. So many of the officers didn't tell their soldiers so they didn't know. As a result many Americans died because they weren't told that the war will have ended but were told to put full force into the battle. So many of them rushed the Germans and got killed
It's one of those things. As humans when we see no sign of end to an uncomfortable situation, we tend to be on high alert and develop thick skin for all the adversities that may lie ahead. Here lies the case they'd been told the war's ending in a few minutes. Being overjoyed there is a high probability you might stop thinking rationally for some few moments and within those moments as we've dropped our guard, a lot can go wrong as in the case of the unfortunate French soldier Augustine.

My Great Uncle was 17 when he enlisted in the US. Marines in 1917. He was a replacement machine gunner and apparently was very good and was chosen to demonstrate a new machine gun before President Wilson. His squad was rewarded with a ride on the Presidents yacht. According to letters other marines sent my great grandmother, on November 1st, 1918 he was shot in the hand but refused medical attention and remained at his machine gun post. A short time later, an artillery shell landed on their post killing 3 Marines (odd to think of U.S. Marines in France in WWI but they were there). Howard Jarrett was awarded 4 Bronze Battle Stars and 2 Silver Stars during his time in France. There is a book, "Decorated Marines of the Fourth Brigade in World War I" and he is on page 156. My great grandmother saved all his letters in a little wooden box along with her gold star armband as well as the telegram advising her of his death and the various certificates, commandant of the Marine Corps, General Pershing, and various French certificates. The marine corps thought the "IA" of Iowa abbreviation looked like "CA" (I could see it happening using a serif font and a bad typewriter ribbon) and sent his death telegram to Oakland California. Great Grandma started sending frantic telegrams when the war insurance office contacted her to pay out his life insurance policy and she hadn't heard from him in months. Eventually the marines contacted her in Oakland Iowa in 1919. The marines put her in contact with some of the soldiers from his unit (those letters, also in the box, was how we heard about him being shot earlier in the battle but refusing medical attention). He and the other 2 soldiers were buried there they fell, but as you might imagine, artillery is not kind to the body. Great Grandma complained they sent him home in a jar (I'm assuming the jar was inside a casket). He's buried in a little cemetery in Oakland IA. Great Grandma outlived everyone from her generation as well as her daughter who was caring for her and visited us from time to time. We've sent scans of all the letters and certificates to the Iowa Historical Society but lost contact with them during the pandemic, looking to find a home for the little box other than a closet here and we still have his dress blues, although they aren't as bright blue as they might have been 100 years ago. With 4 bronze battle stars and 2 silver stars he was definitely the over achiever of the family (my dad received 1 bronze battle star for ground combat, Iwo Jima). My son is currently on active duty and thinks the second silver star might have been because the purple heart didn't exist until the 1920's. Anyway, between my son and I we have posted scans of the originals and one of the letters on find a grave. My parents always thought he was killed after the war ended because of how late the official notification came, but he was killed 17 days before the war ended. He was close to making it.
Hey don’t disrespect the soldiers they actually went through all that and your just making fun of the French they wouldn’t get proper food in the trenches Why don’t you try and live on chocolate lice and rats for 7 years
Respect to all of the soldiers who died in this war, no matter who they fought for. At the end of the day, there were all just men, people like you and me. They had dreams and hopes, families and futures, and they laid down their lives in the name of a cause they believed in. They lived and died with courage and dignity, and to die for the people you love, the country you love, and the beliefs you love is the most honorable thing a person can do. Rest in peace to all the brave fallen of WWI and every other war. Your sacrifices will never be forgotten
So this guy with a mustache pretty much almost ruled everyone but he's dumb. 😐 I'm american but I have respect. I'm amazed of what he accomplished. And I honor thar
They should really make a video about the old contemptibles of Mons. It said that some of these soldiers from the very start of the first british/german encounters in August 1914 survived, only to die on the very last day trying to take Mons again as a “nice price before the ending of the war” and that last quotation is of course what some of their officers thought. Truly sad.
The concept of ending a war at a specific time is ludicrous!! How many lives were lost in those few crucial hours? Even if they agreed on an immediate seize fire, how long for the news to get out to everyone? The last scene of the German soldier basically saying, "f-this, I'm done. Shoot me or don't"!! Very touching.
I have an elder in my family who was part of a war (not sure which). He stepped on a land mind… and well, you know. It’s quite devastating that these men had to endure such painful and harsh punishment of war. Now’a’days war would just be “I sunk your battle ship” kind of deal… it’s upsetting. God bless those men who fought to protect our country. ❤ may you rest in peace ❤️
Definitely not WW1 then since landmines hadn't been invented yet but there were some primitive ones. These mines consisted of an artillery shell being buried faceup so if a soldier step on it it would explode.
Sad fact, 11k soldiers died one day before the war ended all because of commander Ferdinand Foch who refused to stop the war right away after the treaty.
Also, some American pilots who had just been posted to frontline squadrons were frustrated at not having been able to "bag a Hun". So, they go up and strafe retreating German troops WELL after 11AM.
Beautiful scene. One critique: the American soldier who got shot by the German machine gun had a M1903A3, with the rear peep sight, a modification that was not seen until the Second World War. For the period the rifle would have had a further-forward leaf sight, although more likely a different rifle altogether, the M1917, which outnumbered the M1903 at least 3 to 1
Amazing film, somebody needs to do a feature version. The last two hours. My only gripe is the music reminded me too much of the Davinci Code. Wondering if they used it as a temp track and the composer just made a sadder version. Happens all the time in Hollywood.
The 11th is called veterans day because it ended on the 11th month on the 11th day at 11am and it was called amrasit day but was changed. Lest me forgot ww1 june 1914 to November 1918 lest we forget ww2 September 1st to September 2 1945 .we will never forget are veterans and their sacrifice that they gave up and the freedom they gave away for us
