I realize this video is 2 years old but thank you so much for these reviews. I'm considering TGATB history myself and you saying, 'im not a historian. Public education history didn't stick for me" made me chuckle because I feel the exact same way!

Thank you so much for this lovely review!! 💗 When we started homeschool and my girls were little (grades K & 1) we did Susan Wise Bower's The Story of the World together as read alouds for years and they LOVED history, along with Science it WAS a favorite. Then for high school they were doing more independent work with different Sonlight levels and they now no longer love history ☹️. It's just SO much with Sonlight. I love it because it's so thorough and my girls have a super solid history foundation with those two programs but I think they are just burnt out and overwhelmed by it. I'm now considering doing TG&TB history for this year instead, this will be their junior and senior years and we now also have a first grader! I'm hoping this last year of all the kiddos together could be a beautiful one making great memories and bringing back the love of history and joy to our homeschool 🙏🏼. So thanks again for this thorough review!! Blessings from Okinawa 🌺.

I have used Year 1 with my 4th and 6th graders this year. I feel like we covered a lot of information and they actually have retained most of what they learned. The read a louds were challenging, but I really think they helped cement the information. My kids loved the audio recordings and as well! They played the keys game a couple of times in the beginning and did not know most of the answers. It was a few months before they played it again and I was amazed at the factual information that they had retained! They both knew the answers to almost every question. Using all of the resources that this curriculum offers, I feel that we have received a very well rounded year of history! ❤

Thank you so much for this video!! I’ve been praying about using The Good & The Beautiful since last year. Finally started their Language Arts in January. We’ve absolutely loved it, too!! I have a 9 and 7 year old doing this and it has been so fulfilling. We tried too hard to go full on Charlotte Mason last year and we’re burnt out from all the reading. I have enjoyed so much learning beside them. Like you, history just didn’t stick in public school, but now I’m reading books in my own time dealing with history because I just want to devour it all! We’re excited for year 2 😍

I am doing Year 1 with my 16yo daughter and we have finished the lessons of Unit 1. She is putting final touches to her projects from her 10th-12th grade Student Explorer, which is completely independent and she had to plan it out herself. She did pretty good with that, but agonized a little too long over one essay, so got behind. Lol! That’s okay. I’d say it’s a win for the first time planning something homeschool all on her own! I love your TG&TB videos of all of your videos. You are the one who initially sold me on it a year ago. I can’t wait until their Greenleaf High School things are ready! *jumping up and down with joy* I need to watch your videos faster and get caught up. It’s summer and I’m watching winter things. Lol!

I am not a homeschooling mom and bought this curriculum for my two boys. I am taking it slowly since time is a factor, but what I started with are the stories in the book you shared. I plan on going back and working on the lessons over the summer. I love the idea of the different time periods and just adding on to what they are learning in school or may not be learning in school. How do you like the books that come with the program? Did you mention that? I love to read aloud to my children. Read Aloud's are so very important and I want to foster a love of reading and learning. Learning history is so very important in our lives. I am currently reading The Read Aloud Family and it is so inspiring and always brings me back to what is so very important when we are raising young children.

I noticed she said there are printable assignments for grades 1-3 (or did she say K-3) and also different ones for grades 4-6. I wanted to mention that there are also different printable assignments for grades 7-9 plus other assignments for grades 10-12. Really cool! I'm just starting out my first year of this course and am excited about it and find myself and kids excited when it's time for history. ❤

We also loved history year 1 for all of your same reasons this year. I an a sonlight diehard but couldn't make it work with my four, grade 7 down to grade 3. Now looking at next year I think we might be able to return to some of the core w books and they will work for everyone, but I'm a bit torn because all of this material is so good! :) plus as Canadians we do our own thing when it comes to covering Canada's history. So we'll see.

Hi, Ashlee! I'm currently binge watching and creating playlists on homeschooling but I noticed something is terribly missing in all these videos so I've decided to put out a request/suggestion to a few channels. Would you please consider doing a flip-through and/or review of say the top three (or five) curriculum options in a certain subject area for the same grade/level? I don't ever see reviews or flip-throughs that compare SAME subject AND level/grade. That would be really helpful to new homeschooling moms like me. Thank you so much in advance if you grant my request!

Hi Ashley, I just purchased the good and the beautiful science and history curriculum, Level 2 (level 1 was out of stock). My First time purchasing any curriculums ever so I’m super excited! I also have four children but are a little bit more spaced out in grades than yours. I have a 2nd grader, a 3rd grader, a 6th grader, and an 8th grader. I was wondering what you would suggest I do with my 8th grader if this history/ science is not advanced enough for him. I too would love to only teach one course to all of them but not sure that will be possible.

I’m debating how much I want to stick with Sonlight next year. We have done it for the last two years and I have enjoyed many aspects of it, but this is also our first and only curriculum so I’m wondering if I should branch out more. My two are 18 months apart, so we can do do big things like science, read alouds and history together. Next year I will have a second grader and a kindergartener. Would you have stuck with Sonlight if you only had to teach one core? Thoughts?

How would this history work from a secular point of view. We use TGATB for language arts and love it and have even used some of the science units. As a background we are not against our kids learning about Christianity, we just want to make sure they are exposed to a global/ world view, etc....

@elizabethbrown504
@elizabethbrown504 4 года назад
At this age students are generally expected to retain about 10% really. It will be reported later. Maybe relax it and h=just read to enjoy. it can be hard too because it's history, it's the past and quite abstract still for someone who has only lived 7 or 8 years and walking and talking for even fewer of those years.

Hi! I'm new to your channel... I am discerning homeschooling for the 2019-2020 school year and am really attracted to the TGTB curriculum ; I've been researching Seton, Sonlight, and CHC as well, but I love the way TGTB flows and looks - and I also love the history and science family courses. Anyway, are there lesson plans for anything? I see the scope and sequence pages, but wasn't sure if there were actual lesson plans for me to follow along day to day. As a newbie, I feel like those would help tremendously... just wondering. Thanks!

I used this with my second grade daughter. The first read aloud was too heavy for her so we read The Boy of the Pyramid instead and she liked that, however, I stopped using the curriculum after the first unit because I would read all the lessons and stories and she would just tell me that she really didn’t understand any of it. It made it hard when I would have to ask her certain questions about what she learned from the story and she couldn’t tell me anything.It was such a bummer for me because I really wanted her to like it but in the end I just had to go with something less deep. We have been focusing more on geography for the remainder of her second grade year and she is really enjoying it. I do plan on adding history in for her third grade year but I’m thinking of doing Notgrass history “Star-Spangled Banner” instead. I think once we get to fourth grade this history would be more understandable for my daughter.

However, do you think it would be possible to acheive doing book 1 and 2 in the same school year? That would make it 4 days a week if i am understanding correctly. Thanks for your review on this! I’ve been really curious about your thoughts on it. My views on too much history are similar - we’ve done Sonlight & a few others that had a lot of reading - and we love reading! - but it can get overwhelming. My question is about your soon-to-be 7th grader. What will you do (if anything) to beef up her work? Or do you feel that it’s enough as is? If I remember correctly the worksheets only go up to 6th grade? I’ll have a 6th grader this coming year, so I’m just thinking about what I might do through middle school. Mama Karaba I have used this curriculum with my 6th and 2nd grader but not with my older children because it did not provide enough for the older kids. We have done other middle school and high school courses and in comparison, TGATB was not rigorous enough to prepare for college. Also, while I would not necessarily say there are inaccuracies in the curriculum, it provides what I think is an overly positive view of certain historical events and figures. My degree is in history and it is a subject about which I am very passionate so I have found this curriculum to not be challenging enough even for my 6th grader.

Kristin A Smith I am Christian and don’t shy away from religion but I want my children to know a true history, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Since this curriculum is through 6th grade, will you also be using it for your 7th grader next year? I wanted to use this next year, but my girls will be in 7th and 5th.

This history curriculum is for all the way through high school. The lessons in the manual are for all ages. Additionally, each age group has specific Explorer pages of further material/assignments suited to that level of maturity and understanding. These are a pdf download that accompanies the course. My 9th-grade daughter is using this history at the 10-12 level and is loving it. (I'm Joanie. 😊 Our account shows up under my husband's name).
