Endeavor is definitely a contender for my favorite character. Horikoshi did such a great job in my opinion of handling his redemption tactfully, the writing never forgets what he did, it is constantly thrown back in his face time and time again every step he takes out of the darkness. He doesn't get forgiveness from everyone, he doesn't get a perfect happy family, but he STILL TAKES THOSE STEPS, one after another towards betterment.
You nailed it. That’s why I love him so much. Even when people don’t forgive him, he understands why they don’t and STILL takes steps forward. Great stuff
Endeavor is such a fantastic character study on what it takes for a monster to earn their redemption. It wouldn't be anywhere as fascinating if it weren't controversial.
Endeavor is such an interesting character despite being a terrible person. I truly think that he is a man who legit couldn’t accept his flaws or really separate his hero work from his family. Definitely would want more elaboration in both the manga and the anime in the arcs to come
@@StudioAlexOfficial oh I caught up to. I was mainly speaking for the anime onlys. I just can’t wait for more discussion on his character once you know who reveals himself.
@@DonniedrakoE same here. The next few arcs develop him sooo much the end of season 4 really just sets the stage. I wanted to include manga content here but I thought I’d keep it anime-only
Human is a great way to think of Endeavor. I've always thought of him as the perfect reflection of the "nobles" of hero society. In a society where quirks determine your socioeconomic status, it only makes sense that someone with such a strong quirk would work towards the top without even thinking about it. Endeavor is only human, so he fell into the trap of letting social conventions define who he should be and how he should act. But its when he finally reaches the top that Endeavor starts to let go of the old philosophy and decides he wants to forge a different future.
Tbh, it's videos like this that take me back to the time that I actually liked Enji's character. his arc started off so good. Unfortunately, while the rest of the series continued to be great for me, his arc took such a huge nosedive. I went from being indifferent to his character, to loving his character, to his character being my least favorite. It's so bizarre.
Endeavor is without a doubt my favorite character in MHA even now where his path to atonement has lead him is great and can't wait for what the todoroki family still has to show us
I dont care everyones like "endeavor and bakugo are just misunderstood uwu" no 'ab users' like them are just villains. Just cuz they do hero work that they are paid to doesn't change its. Tragic backstories don't excuse shiddy behavior.
Real. Like people are saying 'Rei neglected her kids too!' saying she's just as bad as Enji but Rei Was also a victim of abuse, she was driven to madness by Enji to begin with. And fans are saying "He has changed!", but a broken glass will never be in perfect condition ever again
7:10 hearing The Price of Freedom here was so fitting, Endeavor’s character is quite similar to Angeal’s in a really tragic/weird way. They both pushed themselves in pursuit of their dreams and end up doing horrible things in the process of either unknowingly or intentionally, they both represent a sort of mentor for a younger successor, and though near the end of Crisis Core Angeal tried to do good and would still have been seen as evil, Endeavor is definitely more lucky and fortunate because the world of My Hero is more forgiving than that of Crisis Core meaning he has a greater chance to redeem himself and to try and become a better person! Just thought that was something fun to point out, Jeez this is long😅
@@StudioAlexOfficial it was as far as I’m concerned!🤣👌🏾 Your vids want me to try making videos like this too but we’ll see if I do that! Keep up the great work!!
@@StudioAlexOfficial I just finished and yes I really did like it, especially your mentioning of NOT excusing his actions, I feel as if some discussions about this guy at times are angry over how they believe his actions being justified but I’ve never felt that was the case
@@moki4895 His actions were horrible and not AT ALL justified, even if we understand why he did them. That's the point. He is undoubtedly a bad person, but even bad people can shoot for redemption if they're willing to come to terms and take accountability for their actions and shoulder the burned that comes with that
It's frankly disgusting how they gave Endeavor a redemption arc. His ex wife is still in the hospital because of him. His son is fucking traumatized due to the abuse Endeavor gave them. But hey? How about we focus on THE ABUSER and not the victims! Sure seems like a great idea, huh? This is why anime is so hated. Besides the pedophilia, abuse storylines are used for cheap plot points and they aren't even explored correctly.
Did you watch the show? The show is literally about his victims... And it's far worse to say that abusers shouldn't even try to redeem themselves because no matter how hard they try they can NEVER be redeemed. That is an actual dangerous mindset to impose on people
@@StudioAlexOfficial The show is "literally about" Deku and his OP quirk. Todoroki is explored here and there but not much. And we rarely see his mom, especially during this "redemption arc". I'm not sure what the second half of your comment is saying. Are you telling me that abusers can or cannot be redeemed?
