The ending is always a tear-jerker and plus it was FINALLY nice to see Miranda get off her high-horse and realize how much the both the children AND Daniel were suffering
@ladyfire44
@ladyfire44 6 лет назад
She realized it in court when she was given sole custody of their children. Miranda also saw the role she played in her family's suffering and didn't try to talk this over with them with her plans to divorce in amicable terms. Despite Daniel pretending to be a 60-year-old woman, she knew he didn't do anything wrong and did love their children. Therefore, Miranda did the right thing and appeal to the courts to let them share joint custody with no supervised visits. She admitted this and apologized to him while at the studio.

jim hatten She may have been frigid, but had every right to divorce Daniel with how wreckless and unreliable he was and all the stress it came with it. The important thing is that they both learned how to become better people so they could compromise through the divorce and still let the children have their family.

The original script had Daniel and Miranda getting back together at the end, but the director said he didn't want to give false hope to kids whose parents were separated, so they left it ambiguous. I'd like to think they stayed friends and understood the other more. Miranda was finally able to get off her high horse and understand that he and the kids needed each other, and Daniel being Mrs Doubtfire made him able to balance out being a fun/cool dad with being able to discipline them too. If you're an older Millennial, this movie really hits close to home
@ladyfire44
@ladyfire44 5 лет назад
Yep. The original script also had Stu being revealed as a bad guy planning to send Lydia, Chris and Natalie off to an English boarding school. He was also seen talking badly about Mrs. Doubtfire and his plans to make Miranda fire her. They also had Daniel(in his normal appearance) at the restaurant confronting him for his actions in how he's treated his children, Mrs. Doubtfire and even himself. That he suspected the latter was a bad guy and Mrs. Doubtfire told him all about it. Miranda witnesses this exchange and sees Stu for the selfish man he is. Angered by this, she confronts him in how he's treated her children and her housekeeper. Miranda realized how right Mrs. Doubtfire was in not trusting Stu around the children. She tells him off that she will not marry him and that they're over. Miranda orders him to get out of her life at once. Afterwards, she apologizes to Daniel for her actions and wants to give their marriage another chance. Robin Williams and Sally Fields thought the original ending was to anti-climatic for the two to reconcile and remarry. Thus, they changed Stu into being a good man. Daniel and Miranda reconcile, while staying divorced. According to Mrs. Doubtfire, they were much better parents when they lived apart.

Not just the director, Robin Williams and Sally Field (who were divorcees in real life too) also opposed the idea due to the 'don't want to give false hopes to children' reason; can't blamed them though since remained divorced was much more realistic.

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid with divorced parents, and this is all I wanted. Unfortunately our story ended very differently. My dad killed himself when he couldnt take it anymore. He had suffered from depression for much of his life. I was 15. Knowing that Robin Williams also killed himself makes watching this even harder. It is like a window into a parallel universe with less pain... To all parents and children suffering, please reach out to friends and mental health professionals and remember what is important.

It is said that the doorway scene with Daniel standing in front of it but not entering was symbolism that was borrowed from the ending of the movie, "The Searchers." At the end of "The Searchers," there's a doorway that Ethan(John Wayne) does not enter with the other characters because he knows that he does not belong. They thought that would be a good way to illustrate divorce. The Hillard house doorway is supposed to represent a world that Daniel can't enter anymore because he no longer is part of it. He is only able to get through that doorway disguised as Mrs. Doubtfire. But now here in this scene, Daniel has finally accepted the divorce and does not enter the house even when invited to because he knows he doesn't belong and says he'll wait outside.

Oyyyyy vey ! Now that's over analyzing ! And completely wrong . First , the final court scene where his ice wife realizes he loves the kids ... she starts to realize he is a good dad ( and possibly still useful to her ) Then when he is at the door and she invites him inside ( see that look in her eyes ? ) That was her trying to take the initial steps at repairing the divorce and having him back in HER life as well. He refused to come into the house as a finial " see ya , don't need ya bitch " statement .

The ending is pretty much open to interpretation, which is a reason why I love this movie. Personally, I believe Stu would remain out of the picture and quite possibly Daniel and Miranda will get back together. I think Daniel learned his lesson of being a more responsible dad instead of the "all-fun dad" as well as a more caring husband for his wife instead of behaving like an extra kid for her. I also think Miranda genuinely loved him, but was simply tired of him being only a dad and not a husband.
@silverpslm
@silverpslm Год назад
Exactly. I think the whole movie is pretty much him and her getting on the track they needed to be at the beginning of the divorce. Yes, he being a more responsible husband. But also her being more trusting of the person she choose to start a family with in the first place.
@ladyfire44
@ladyfire44 Год назад
To me, both are happy in their own lives. Daniel and Miranda's marriage failed, but they are still life partners because of their love for the children. With Stu, Miranda could start over and have a lasting relationship with him. It's likely that Daniel found another love in a woman who truly loves him and accepts the children as part of their lives.

@ladyfire44
@ladyfire44 5 лет назад
I think it's more of a bittersweet moment for Daniel. While he may be upset over the divorce, he realizes how happy Miranda is with her life and how much she's in love with Stu. Hence if he hadn't become Mrs. Doubtfire, Daniel would never had gotten his own life back on track by getting an apartment, cleaning up after himself and a steady job in the studio. The only good thing is that he and Miranda did reconcile. She apologized for her behavior and appealed to the judge to overturn his decision to allow Daniel joint custody of their children. It was the only thing he wanted from the divorce: to have the afterschool hours with Lydia, Chris and Natalie.
@presentprogressive8780
@presentprogressive8780 Год назад
I really like the small but crucial detail that Lydia is not looking at her little sister hugging their dad when she is smiling, but that she is clearly looking at her mother as the oldest child approving of her decision to let their father back into their lives without supervision. A small look that shows character growth from both the mother and the daughter.

I really didn’t appreciate this movie enough as a child. It was the first movie that I think really challenged me. I was expecting them to get back together like other divorced/separated/broken-up couples I’d seen in movies. Even if it seems there’s a slight chance they might do so here, it seems heavily implied they won’t. But what’s best is it doesn’t really matter. At this point in the movie they’re both content and understanding with each other. They could potentially rebuild a relationship now that they’ve grown and communicated with each other, but there’s no drive or obligation. This was the first movie that showed me sometimes people work better when they’re apart. Daniel and Miranda could be the best versions of themselves for their children when they weren’t in conflict with each other. (Also, it was the first movie to show me a potential stepparent that wasn’t evil incarnate)

Throughout the movie both Daniel and Miranda thought they were doing what was best for the children by deciding for themselves when in actual fact it was for their own personal needs. Daniel goes behind his ex-wife's back and lies to many people to get what he wants. Miranda takes all control away from Daniel and believes what she is doing is better for her kids when they are miserable. However, they both learn that despite that they are not partners in marriage anymore, they are still partners as parents

Well Daniel does make a point in this movie to his daughter on why he and Miranda couldn’t be back together, I think it was a deleted scene. Daniel explained that sure they’d still be a family, but it would be a forced one, and he even added “even I’m not that good of an actor to pretend everyday as if everything is perfect”. Sometimes there are problems you can’t just fix and the compromises are too demanding for one another. I think it’s important to teach kids that divorce doesn’t always means it’s the end of a family, but rather the birth of a different kind of family, not an easy one, but still a family nonetheless. You can’t force love, even if it’s for the sake of the children. I’ve seen families that tried to hold out without a divorce, and let me tell you, it isn’t pretty.

He wasn't supporting her as her husband thru him first in this and after she got home from obviously a stressful day at work thru her and instead of being a kid with their kids thru him so I don't like how she's made out to be being the evil villain in this movie thru her against him thru her and against their kids thru her even but I think she could have given him a second chance to be being her husband she needed to be being loved by and supported by thru her and when he proved it to her in disguise thru him that he could indeed be making her his priority put their marriage first thru him even and instead of their kids thru him before her.

At the ending of Mrs.Doubtfire I'm so happy that Daniel & Miranda are back together again so they don't have to argue anymore and so that's Daniel don't have to dress up as Mrs.Doubtfire anymore that's it that's the end of the movie 🙂👍

even though she did offer him to come in, there’s a reason he didn’t in my honest opinion: during the divorce process, the only way he was allowed in the house was under the disguise as Mrs. Doubtfire, since he was under the court ruling. at the time, he still couldn’t get over it. but now that he and miranda made amends, he’s accepted what he’s done, even before the divorce, and decided to respectfully not to re enter the house, even after miranda invited him in.

She went back to the judge and appealed the decision by convincing him that Daniel didn't masquerade around town as a 60-year-old Scottish nanny to hurt anyone. He just wanted to spend time with their children. This was enough for the judge to overturn his decision and allow Daniel joint custody of the children.

Everyone thinks the character of Daniel is so warm and loving, but look at his anger and passive aggressive traits. He comes late to childrens' recitals, rips off the Mercedes logo from her boyfriend's car, convinces the neighbor to put dog urine on her plants thereby killing off her lovely flowers right next to his kids' home, almost chokes boyfriend to death with his chili pepper prank, and so on. When he talks to the neighbor, his anger manifests itself in undertones, and it is vicious. Not a nice guy, our 'lovable fool' Daniel. Robin gave this character many dimensions and some depth, and okay it was supposed to be funny in the movie and it was. But... would you take a husband with those mean streaks as your partner in life? True character comes out under stress. And Daniel is the kind of man I would run away from. He is petty, insecure, clingy, has no boundaries, thinks nothing of vandalism and harming others, lies to everyone, disguises himself and worms his way back into his ex's house, ... good grief! Obviously the last born. Miranda is the first born. Takes her duties seriously, pays the bills, works hard. Daniel is a goof off, does not work, does not pay the bills, and sabotages others.

I think that he is a good man that is also flawed. I don't really remember the entire movie, but I know why they divorced, and one of the reasons is what you said, he runs from responsibility. But he loves his children dearly, and I think that in the end he earned the right to take care of them daily, because he learned that you also need to be stern with the kids to raise them well. In the beginning of the movie he did not get that, and I think that is why his ex didn't want him watching them in the afternoons. Because they would get no schoolwork done and she'd have to take care of it when she comes home tired from work. He was a really bad husband/parent at the beginning though, one of the main problems being that not only did he leave all the heavy stuff to his wife, but he also undermined her parenting in front of the kids so often that they simply lost their respect for her, and that is not healthy for them.
@ladyfire44
@ladyfire44 5 лет назад
Yep. Maybe it's why Miranda was attracted to Stu Dunmeyer because she saw in him a good man and a responsible parent that would help her raise the children. She lost a lot of respect for Daniel over time. He not only didn't keep a steady job, but also he had also been shirking his responsibilities as a parent and undermining her parenting to the point he taught their children to lose respect for her. The judge made it clear to Daniel that he's irresponsible and Miranda has sole custody of the children, during the custody battle hearing. He also points out that in order to be allowed joint custody, Daniel must provide a suitable home for the children and keep a steady job. He fulfilled the requirements of the judge's orders by getting an apartment, cleaning it up to make it suitable for the children and has a steady job at a studio. It was his secret job as a housekeeper in the Mrs. Doubtfire alter ego that challenged him the most. After being used to being the fun dad for a long time, Daniel was forced to face up to his neglected responsibility as a parent and discipline his children when they misbehave. He put himself in Miranda's shoes and realized how stressed out she had been in having to take on the responsibility of being the strict parent to them. It was through Mrs. Doubtfire that Daniel finally found balance between being a fun-loving dad and a responsible parent. The divorce may have been hard on him, but he had to learn responsibility the hard way. Miranda also had to learn to balance between being a strict parent and having fun with her children. In the end, she and Daniel were able to reconcile. They had become better parents through the divorce. That was the only thing Mrs. Doubtfire was right on. Parents can be better people to their children if they're not living together and get along

No. The movie ended it on a good note with the divorce. It's through it all, Daniel learned how to balance between being a fun-loving father and a responsible parent through Mrs. Doubtfire. Miranda learned that not everything in life has to be serious and she can compromise between being a strict parent and having fun.

Why did Miranda feel bad what she did 2 Daniel almost at the end of the movie
@ladyfire44
@ladyfire44 5 лет назад
She was remorseful because she realized how much she's hurt Daniel and their children. At home when Lydia, Chris and Natalie confronted her for breaking their family up, Miranda saw the role she played in her family's suffering. The remorse in her grew because she didn't try to talk this over with them with her plans to divorce in amicable terms. Despite Daniel pretending to be a 60-year-old woman, she knew he didn't do anything wrong and did love their children. She also realized that he had been trying to get his own life back together and be a better father to their children. Therefore, Miranda did the right thing and appeal to the courts to let them share joint custody with no supervised visits. She admitted this and apologized to him while at the studio.

She could see firsthand how broken up the kids were about Mrs Doubtfire not being a part of their lives anymore (and that's also when Daniel could only see them supervised for an hour a week). I guess seeing all he did as mrs doubtfire made her lighten up and realize that Daniel was able to be a responsible parent too
