I remember seeing this movie in the theater and being blown away by the theme and the end sequence. And now I see why in the credits, seeing that this was created by Maurice Binder, the same genius who did the amazing intros to many James Bond movies of the same era.
Actually, Maurice Binder did the storm effects for this film, and did the opening title sequences for the Bond films. John Scott composed the music score for this film.
My dad showed me this film for the first time when I was 5 years old and we watched it all the time throughout my youth. I just dug it out today after not seeing it for 6 years, I miss my old man and the F-14 tomcat. Thanks for the upload. A lot of really great memories attached to this film.
The flight deck sequences look more realistic and convincing than they did in Top Gun. The ending sequence with the planes being catapulted was 100x better than anything shown in that other movie.
I swear i always look forward to the end credits of The Final Countdown. Outstanding musical score and watching The Navy doing there duty. God Bless The Navy and Air Force.
The ultimate nightmare for the Soviet Navy was a Pearl Harbor style attack on the Severomorsk base near Murmansk, carried out by carrier based A-6s and A-7s, with fighter cover by the F-14. Norway had a superb coastline with many inlets to hide in.
I miss seeing the F-14s, what an awesome bird. That fighter even looks like it was meant for combat over the sea. Even though this movie was made in 1980, those same pilots and planes could be brought to present day and still be hot shit. The F14's a dogfighter in the purest form.
Stationed on the USS Saratoga (CV-60) 85-87, and our F-14 "Tomcats" (VF-74 "Bedevilers" & VF-103 "Sluggers") not only kicked Khadafi's ass in the Gulf of Sidra but also captured the hijackers of the Achille Lauro Cruise ship. Not bad for those times...
2:22 will be a very good wall paper to remind us of those old good days when Tomcat dominate the sky...Still remember the date when I saw this movie in theatre with my old man...30 years and USS Nimitz still serving as the most powerful warship, unbelievable!!
It still shocks me that the F14 was stricken from service at time when it is needed but yet there are still scores of obsolete F4 Phantoms still held in storage at the plane boneyards.
I loved this movie. It showed me that even in the past politicians were idiots, no matter if its the past our the present. But at least our Military would always be there to protect us, no matter if its the past or the present.
porpus99 Present and"... even in the past politicians were idiots" . So true because, as far as I'm concerned they are elected by the people, but dedicated Their careers of service, protecting and looking out for their a$$es and our expense. The move "300" was a good example of that also. As for the Military and even Law Enforcement, they may protect us, ideally, but we who have been in either one or both occupations, we serve at the will of the politicians.
The most realistic combat featuring F-14 (and frankly, any modern jet fighter) in a major movie. Yes, it is a sci-fi setting, but even counting on that, it is still on 'The best' place, partly because Hollywood just does not bother to understand basic physics, logic and reality.
Well, best part of the film to me. The real flightdeck crews in action. I was a recruit Airman at the time, a Plane Captain... Aviation Navy people know what I mean. Retired AFCM now. And yes, most of these great Warbirds are long gone now..... Yet today they are still pulling the rubber off the cat tracks. firing NO-LOADS and launching aircraft.
I know it's probably unlikely, but I think it would be awesome if the Nimitz could be on-hand when the Gerald R. Ford officially enters fleet service; the lead ship of the previous class welcoming the lead ship of the new class.
IN french! Merveilleux film pour l'époque, il est vrai que la NAVY recrutait à l'époque, mais se retrouver dans le top des pilotes de chasse au commande d'un zinc d'exception comme le F14 relève du défi, et certain l'on réalisé.
Commander Owens and Laurel survived on that small safe site, Instead of O'ahu, they lived over 39 years have passed and her dog🐶Charlie lived too.😢Unfortunately, Senator Chapman's gone, didn't make to warn Pearl Harbor, he's useless, thanks to Captain Yelland with his dumb plan.
I think it’s ironic how the only machines that we used in this film that are still in service are 1. The E-2 Hawkeye and 2. The Nimitz herself. And the Nimitz is due for deactivation in either 2024 or 2025, which means, the last active piece of machinery from this film era will be: The E-2 Hawkeye. Let that sink in…
Well new launch system hope it works, but lets not forget the steam launch system used now is ROYAL NAVY BRITISH as is the angled flight deck ROYAL NAVY BRITISH plenty of likes would be nice for UK
uauuuu como habra sido ver volar un f14 en vivo! solo ver esta pelicula y la de top gun uno se imagina, hermosura de avion!!!! aunq ver volar en vivo el mig29 es algo parecido!! ;)
i hear they're coming out with a magnetic launch system on the next gen carriers... I too love the actual crews working to this music.. awesome... "just keep your head out of your ass on that deck..."
@@AudieHolland That is a sobering fact: "Fly safe...Else, your...Tomcat may end at the bottom of the ocean." It is a dangerous business they're in, when they spin up the engines and take flight whether training, combat or demo. I wish I could remember which youtube navy vid it was, but a carrier pilot wrote a long comment of his shipboard experiences. It was a great read. He wrote of a Tomcat crew that went into the ocean before being able to eject. I can't recall if it was at launch or a bad trap. The crew, much less the plane, could not be recovered. then even now., because of the depth of the water, where the incident occurred. What really grabbed you, is how he wrote of how the Entire crew was affected by the loss of their shipmates.
@@vinyltapelover It didn't help that the early Tomcat models were underpowered. They were never designed with dogfighting in mind but as launching platforms for long range Phoenix missiles. Only with the introduction of the F-14D model did the Tomcat become more agile.
Hu half you mean the entire. Fleet even if they didnt have. Enough conventional ordnance they still probley had nukes they could have used and vaporized every enemy ship
Hornet Magtf There was an episode of The Simpsons where a laundry ship named the U.S.S Walter Mondale was mentioned. I think Clinton and Obama are barely worthy of having a lifeboat aboard said vessel named after them!
