This movie posed the ultimate what if question: if you had the chance to change history, would you do it? You could stop an attack on Pearl Harbor, would you do it and alter the timeline completely or let history happen and just observe? Interesting choice both morally and ethically, because you may spare thousands by changing this, but what consequences would you encounter from changing it, would millions die later or would it have either dire or great outcomes? It is a debate that could go on for years!!!!

And also, by recalling them, he allowed World War II to take place and the Americans to join the fighting. The US would have joined, Pearl or not. You Yanks often forget about the invasion of the Philippines and the other attacks that happened on the same day as Pearl. The dates is different because the other attacks were on the other side of the International date line, but that alone would have drawn the US into the war.
@STho205
@STho205 2 года назад
@@henrykeyter53 is correct. They hit 4 major targets that day and 4 more minor ones. The Phillipines and Midway attack would have been the Infamy for the US along with the Imperial fleet now sunk off Hawaii. The USS Nimitz would have been a top secret ace in the hole...the U-boat Atlantic war would have been over in three months. The Imperial fleet destroyed a few months later. The biggest problem would have been armaments resupply. Special factories would be converted to build the jet missles. Electronic guidance would have been years away, so after a few months in the fight, the jets would be far less effective....but still much faster than anything trying to hit them with much greater range. The ship could refuel on uranium, a known substance. The planes on high grade Kerosene. The US would come out of the war in 1942 or 43 with a terrifying reputation...and a gigantic temptation for unchecked world dominance... IOW the Empire of the United States would likely become the very thing the Anglo Americans were fighting in the real 1940s.

I heard Katherine Ross was real standoffish to US Navy personnel while shooting in the Keys of Florida while Kirk Douglas and James Farentino were really engaging with the men and officers of the Nimitz. I just wish they would have listed the USS Nimitz as one of the cast!

One (of many) flaws I found in the plot of this is that the Japanese fleet wasn't that far away. In this clip, it is 150 miles away. At 600 mph, that is 15 minutes. Yet, they waited until the very last to even think of it. Even in the beginning, they were less than 200 miles away and combat radius is 575 miles on an F-14. Just four planes making a gun run down the decks of two carriers would have ended it all, with the performance they would have demonstrated to the Japanese in that attack. Still, I always liked this movie.

You're wrong, the Japanese had already declared war against America before the japanese fleet left port 4 days before december 7th. It was to be delivered 4 hours before the attack, but was late in decoding. So america was already at war with Japan.

it was supposed to be delivered one hour prior to the attack, and it wasn't sent four days earlier, the declaration of war isn't ratified until the receiving party receives it.

@brucetucker4847

Not true. The Japanese note was not a declaration of war, it was simply an announcement that peace negotiations were being broken off. The actual declaration was published in Japanese newspapers the next day. They never did deliver a formal declaration of war to the US government. OTOH, the Japanese often use language differently than westerners, preferring to imply rather than directly state unpleasant facts. They probably considered the Dec. 7 note to be sufficient notice that hostilities were imminent. Certainly it was understood that way by the code breakers and everyone they showed the decrypts to, but they didn't get it decrypted until a few hours before the attack.

@andgate2000 except they are still members of the US Navy, whose mission is to protect the US. They would not have just sat by and did nothing. And since they had no idea how long they would be trapped in the past, they would have contributed to the WW2 as best they could.
@davidswarner7902
@davidswarner7902 6 лет назад
I've not seen the full movie, but suppose they send 1980s fighters against the Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes and change the flow of time. The devastating attack on Pearl would not have occurred or would have been blunted. There would be no rallying cry to enter the war in Europe until much later, if at all. Outcomes might have been different. It is quite possible that Germany might have controlled all of Europe, most of Russia and a lot, if not all of Middle East and Africa. Japan may have stayed in the Western Pacific and been happy with SE Asia and Australia. But the minute the planes engaged in all out defense of Hawaii they might have signed their own death certificate since there would not be the history we have. The US might have been relegated to a minor power, reliant on trade with the major powers of Japan and Germany. There would be no great expansion of the US as a military juggernaut so no need for aircraft carriers the likes of the Nimitz.
@Soundwave3591
@Soundwave3591 6 лет назад
there would also be an earlier introduction OF Jets, helicopters, Nuclear technology and Computers, as the Nimitz would provide the US navy with working examples of all of the above. Imagine the D-Day landings supported by F-14's and Seaking helicopters, Guided missiles and troops armed with M16's. Even if the mass-produced weapons would not be as good as those provided, they would still be a leg up on anything the Axis possessed. Don't forget also that Pearl Harbor wasn't the only Japanese Objective: they launched Simultaneous attacks on the Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore the same day. It might be "Remember Manila!" instead of "Remember Pearl Harbor!" While an attack on such a far away location might not be as much of a rallying point as the Pacific fleet, Americans would still be killed, and it would serve enough of a pretext for the US to declare war. Not to mention that even just finding out that the Japanese were PLANNING such an attack might outrage the US population enough to go to war, even if it was stopped. "Perfidious Nippon" who had been rampaging across Asia had now tried to strike at the US. They had been stopped by a chance encounter with American Carriers (I expect the existence of the "tech vault" that the Nimitz represented would be kept secret, and she would simply be presented as a large carrier) while "Spies" in Tokyo had furnished the information on the attack (in reality provided by the Nimitz.) Any japanese protest at the loss of their ships would be silenced in the face of the overwhelming information provided (Imagine if an American Diplomat rattled off "Climb Mount Niitaka" or "Tora Tora Tora" while confronting the Japanese, it would send them into a tailspin of paranoia as to who the "spy" was) While stories of "Huge Jet fighters" and "self-guided rockets" would be dismissed as wild stories.

Roosevelt was determined to get the United States into WWII. He spent the last year trying to provoke the Japanese wherever possible (China, etc), hoping for just such an attack. His "infamy speech" was quite humorous considering the United States rarely ever declares war before attacking others.

Christopher Marsh yes it was made to hunt Soviet tanks but it is in use by the USAF. Just because it is used to engage ground targets primarily it doesn't mean it's used by the Army. The Marines will be the only service to use a VTOL aircraft (the F-35) as it can operate closer to Marines on the ground to save time in close air support. The Airforce will have a standard F-35 and the Navy's variant of the F-35 will have larger floatable wings, stronger landing gear and a tail hook for carrier operations.

He should have known that if he changes the past it would have very bad consequences. For instance A meets B after Pearl Harbor was bombed A and B have children , child A goes on the captain the Aircraft carrier if they stop the Japanese bombing Pearl harbour A wouldn’t have met B. So child A would never have been born, so how did child A captain the Aircraft carrier to stop Pearl Harbor being bombed.

Perfect movie. Only an extremely select number of movies could match it for quality and not the ones most would assume. The crusaders and tomcats could not destroy that Japanese fleet. Not possible. History is more difficult to defeat than one might imagine. You might get a look at it but you cannot do it. That time warp storm is the Japanese Divine Wind. You'll vanish - in the style of the Bermuda Triangle.

Without a real movie Tora Tora Tora existence, they cannot change history to undo the long past in the event of World War II, no other choice. During after last 24 hours, a time vortex swallows the USS Nimitz transporting back to the future 1980, now the Pacific Fleet is gone, also now they gotta do the rest of the thing with Soviet in the Cold War instead of Japan in the Pacific War (1941-1945).
