Agreed. As always, appreciate your perspective. Ate a piece of humble pie today in MyTeam. Played a truly elite offballer. Got torched like 76-25. Hated it and raged but respect given for reading my passes. I believe in all modes I’m in the middle of the pack so a lot of what you discussed resonated. Fascinating topic. Thank you.
This has become an issue across gaming, but imo the problem 2k in particular is having is that a very large portion of the community isn't even at the skill floor. This means that when they play skilled players they don't have a good enough grasp of the mechanics to even comprehend what's going wrong and improve from a loss. In fighting games or shooters people are usually just impressed with skilled play and aren't upset about the fact someone is better than them, and this is because they understand the game's mechanics and can actually appreciate skilled play. In 2k it's just "you're a sweat" even if you're varying your attack as much as possible and lay off defensively once the game is out of hand. Because they don't even understand what's happening beyond "I can't stop this guy" Great video as always
The skill gap in 2k is definitely wider than in most games, but that journey is pretty easy to make. You're on point in that most people think they are WAY better than they are, so they are not taking in information the way players from other games do. They think because they watch a lot of basketball, they're entitled to being good at 2k and anyone better than them is a cheeser, LMAO.
Because most of the things that happen is bs, like a person grabbing their own rebound on the 1v1 court or you stepping out of bound because the game gives a random animation, how about a 6'3 guard laying the ball up over a 80+ interior defense consistently but a 90 driving dunk not being able to dunk on the 6'3 guard 😂 2k is not and will never be a skilled game, it's a cheesy game that you have to sweat to win
I don't understand the decision to remove stat averages at the lobby or the timer disappearing locking you into a game.. especially after implementing random rec into the game... 2k would rather ban you for dash porting than ensuring you actually have a good gameplay experience... which is all determined by your teammates. It's backwards and RU-vidrs never have this problem because they run in squads all day, so its never brought up
Getting my ass toasted by better post scoring bigs made me a better post scoring big. I’m thankful for those Ls because now I dominate with the best of them.
With the que times aside bc that can't be argued, if I'm a new player with no sbmm and I'm getting blown out by 30 every game and this guy is flash pausing and flopping on the floor I'm probably not gonna play anymore and just go back to a game I know. 2k needs this bc for every player they lose a thousand more just bought it for the first time
In previous years, yes, but this year they added ranked. So new players don't have to go out to the wild west. They can go into ranked and face people of their skill level. Ranked is training wheels when you're at the very bottom of the skill ladder.
Global matchmaking is something they might end up tweakin. If people are trying out less builds and spending less money then maybe theyll adjust it. But if it doesnt affect their bottom dollar it'll probably stay as it is till next year's release
Ngl I’m in the protected bracket cause I don’t play 2k every day and my games have been very easy compared to what I was playing against in previous years but that being said it’s not very fair for the really good players to constantly only play really good players. It’s fun to steamroll some bums every few games too.
I’d like to add more on what you said , I don’t think sports game have the culture nor the inherent ability to have such narrow matchmaking and I’ll expand on that . Fighting games you know what moves and characters you can use and what works to be the best at said game . Sports games and especially 2k are too animation based and rng based to have such matchmaking to where I have to be the best of the best at all times .
I know plate is a big factor as is overall because top players are using 60 ovr players to get quick games but they make a new one when they hit silver plate.
I have no problem with SBMM in games that do not have ranked modes in them , but if you do have ranked modes then there needs to be a space where anybody can play anybody . And 2k already has parameters already like 92 and under Rec & etc etc
Havent watched the full video yet but it´s not only the skill but also the tier of cards ur using. Often I see games were a full saphire squad goes against a PD squad. In my opinion 2k definetly should fix that.
There are too many game modes in mycareer. There should only be Rec, Proving Grounds, ProAm, and Theater. Park, and any other game mode that is not quick match based, needs to be removed from every 2k going forward.
So they just gonna give dribble n shooting a buff while nerfing the defense? With this contest system non existent I rely on the passing lanes for defense. Now I cant intercept the passes to shooters I can't contest in a buffed system where shooting becomes too easy
Seems yall are learning the issues sbmm has in League of legends. And let me tell you NO you do not want bronze players playing people higher skilled and ranked players. Trust me please
I disagree. There should be no ranked match that is unwinnable. Putting a bronze against a gold knowing the bronze would lose would frustrate them more than anything. I know from experience. Im a bronze in r6 but i get matched against champs (because of hidden mmr) is not fun. It's not a learning experience. It's frustrating.
When you're in an unwinnable match, the goal isn't to win, it's to learn. Playing against the best players is the fastest way to learn, which is why fighting game players get so much better after going to a tournament. Now I think there should be a limit to this. So Bronze players don't need to play five levels above them. But the occasional three levels above is actually better for your learning. This is already proven. In shooters, this is more useful if there is a replay feature so you can see how they controlled the map but in 2k and fighting games, you can literally rewatch it and learn a ton from one game against a much better player. Is your goal to win every game or get better? If your goal is to win every game, but you're not very good, then that's the source of your frustration.
@BooksNelson-bx2bq yes in shooting games and in fighting games were mechanics are easy to learn this is true. 2k has many nuances and small details that you cannot see. You would only learn these if a control with their inputs were put on screen. Hence why they're in bronze. Going up against significantly better players, while not knowing that flicking up on the right stick will stop the movement of your player before shooting will not help the bronze. They'll think "how is he stopping so fast?" Not oh i know escalated what he's doing. I should integrate that into my play
@@12345ant1 This is a very common misconception about 2k. For reference, last year I took several people who had 30% win records and converted them into a group who could win 70-90% of their games. NONE of those techniques were needed and playing hundreds of Rec games, I can tell you that people who could L2 cancel and quick stop were EXTREMELY rare. The #1 issue with bad players in 2k is spacing. #2 is decision making and #3 is hitting your shot. Take those three things and that alone is worth winning about 65% of your games. You can get another 10% by playing good defense. It's only the last 25% and up where high level skills are required, very similar to how combos are not needed to get to Platinum in Street Fighter and aim is not needed to get to Platinum in Overwatch.
@BooksNelson-bx2bq that's a test with an obvious bet on their team guiding them. When its all bronzes, they don't understand what they're doing wrong. If you've played a team based game with lower ranks, you know how clueless they are. The people that are in bronze and stuck in bronze are there for a reason. Putting them against better opponents does not teach them. They have to seek that info on their own to get better. Widening the matchmaking pool for a ranked mode is and always will be a bad idea. Every game that has done it, has a huge fight within their playerbase.
@@12345ant1 you’re misunderstanding. I’m not for wider sbmm in ranked. Only in quick play. In ranked it should be narrow. In quick play you should get a variety of experiences in exchange for faster matches and better connections
Idk it’s cool but there is no more casual gaming if you’re not sweating your ass off your not winning at a certain point which is why I loved previous 2ks you’d get a couple good games some easy ones and then like 1/4 you’d get a game that you really really had to lock in now it’s every game
