I went over to CN MacMillan yard and it must have been peak time because I caught TONS of action, including a CN Heritage unit (aka The Green Machine) and heritage slug!

Jeezus that is one long large big train there. That is really one attractive train. Actually a piece of modern art 😊

Great sounding exhaust on that GP40-3, I was convinced it still had a 645 in it

I'm not fully sure if it kept the original block or a new 710 was added, but either way it sounds fantastic!

WOW, this was amazing with all the action! I loved the parts where the trains went around the curve! Keep up the great work :D

Great video, I’ll be visiting here in the next week or so. When is better in the day to go? I’ve heard afternoon is busiest

Great intro footage. Amazing location that is. Great to see the slug with the heritage livery. Looks like the upper body outline of one or two GMD1's in your footage of the power service area. Hope that they are there for service only and are not on their way to a scrap yard. James.
@ctf6420
@ctf6420 3 года назад
Thanks! Agreed, it's a nice touch that they painted the slug too. Unfortunately, I doubt very much that those GMD1s will move under their own power again, but I'm glad that I got to film them when they were still in service!

You bet. It was an exciting catch to film those venerable old EMD's in action. I was lucky to film one doing yard and industrial work in Guelph, Ontario on the Guelph Jnc RR last year including some aerial footage. They were also seen not infrequently around the Hamilton area in the last year or two. Someone told me that at least one of them was being donated to a heritage or tourist railway here in Ontario, although I cannot recall the specifics of it. James.

Having work for CN in the past I see alot of non turboed exhausts on units which where turboed when new wondering why the shift to no turbos
@ctf6420
@ctf6420 2 года назад
Turbochargers are useful on higher horsepower locomotives, while lower horsepower switchers (like the GP38-2) don't need tons of horsepower, so they don't have them
@thomasklimchuk441
@thomasklimchuk441 2 года назад
On GM units the turbos are mechanical driven On the older Alco units the turbo is air driven
@jameslegg440
@jameslegg440 2 года назад
GM units at low rpm are gear driven but the exhaust is used to drive the turbo as rpm is increased

I hate to nitpick, but you need a tripod to hold the camera still, otherwise, a great video!👍❗

I would have used mine if it wasn't filmed from the sidewalk of a busy road on a bridge, thanks for watching!

@paulsmith5398 2 года назад
@@ctf6420 sorry, i knew you mentioned highway 7 on the in-screen caption, but didnt realize you were actually on the sidewalk of the bridge. That could be kind of dangerous with that kind of traffic whizzing by fairly close to you.........and the heritage units!!!! Those are so cool in the original paint scheme! My younger son-in-law is an engineer for CN, on the former IC Iowa division.

@@ctf6420 hope i didnt upset you or scare you from doing more videos, would like to see more of them due to my son-in-law being a CN engineer. I did "share it" with my daughter and her family, but might find out if they watched when they come for the holiday next week. I think i have a shade of green paint that is cloee to the green on those heritage units.
