I went to the CN Macmillan yard just lucky enough to be able to capture the busy afternoon freight traffic coming in and out of the yard! I filmed at a great angle, at the bridge on Highway 7, and got to see everything from long main line arrivals, to hard working switchers organizing the massive amounts of freight cars that come into the yard each day. Finally, just note that I filmed the video pretty early on in September, and so is yet another delayed upload to the channel...

Thanks! I appreciate it, and I have to admit that I never expected this amount of views on the video!

Awesome catches! When I went there, it was dead silent except for 1 slug-set.

I know, I'm utterly surprised there actually was that much traffic and movement when I went. Must be peak hour or something.

Nice catches! Do you know if the Canadian cab/GP9 duo is still doing the swiching? I’m heading to Canada soon and I’m gong to be railfanning that yard.

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure; but I believe there's a high chance that most of the switchers (including the Geep 9 with the slug) will still be at Macmillan sorting the freight cars. There is a possibility that some switchers in the video won't be there maybe because of being transferred to another facility. Best of luck to your railfanning adventures bro!

Wow! A ton of great footage. Shame to have to speed it up. It would great in 2 or 3 parts at normal speed, for the hardcore Railers ;)

Thanks! Appreciate it. I mean I had to speed some parts up cuz I had to be fair to other people who wouldn’t want to watch railcars just slowly pass by. Besides, if you like normal speed, just slow the video down using the RU-vid settings!

Slugs are not providing tractive effort - just braking power

True, they do provide braking power. But slugs do in fact provide tractive effort by increasing overall adhesive weight.

That it is a wrong statement. Slugs DO NOT provide tractive effort- the only power that you have on that combination(or 2 loco and 1 slug) is coming from the unit(locomotive). You have only as much HP as the locomotive.

@@pesterica2008 Booster units are hooked up to the locomotives using the 27 pin cable, and their traction motors are powered by using excess current from the locomotive. There is no chance you are pulling a track at Mac with a single unit. Hook up a booster and you can build 8,000 ton cuts with almost no issue.
