In this video we went to Henry's endocrinology appointment and tried out the Omni Pod demo. I will be talking more about our thoughts on the pump. Andy and I don't 100% agree on it but he's come around and is willing to try it if Henry is up for it. I'm in the process of researching the omnipod. Tell me below your thoughts on the Omnipod! My son has dexcom and OmniPod. He has been on OmniPod for 3 years... He's 6 now. We love love love OmniPod. It has given us so much freedom. As with anything new it takes getting use to it but man, once we did we love it! Good luck on whatever y'all decide but we love it.

I love this series!!! We have a friends that have a little boy, with T1D. My husband and his father actually have a paintball team called T1D, and they raise money for the cause. But watching this helps me to be able to talk with the mom some. Thanks for sharing! They are staying the weekend in 3 weeks.

+Sharing Our Life oh wow!! I want to hear about him! You'll have to find out if he's on a pump. That's so cool they raise money for diabetes! I wish we had friends with a type 1. They sound nice. ❤

We love the omni pod! If the pump fails right after we put it on we just take as much insulin out of that pod to use in the new pod. If a pod fails within a certain amount of time omni pod will replace that pod. When our son was younger we put a band on his arm to help it stay on. We also use unisolve to help remove the pod. I hope some of this was helpful!

I have been following Henry's T1D journey for several years. I have had t1d since I was 17 and first had the Medtronic pump, it was a difficult experience and sounds similar to Henry's experience with the Ping. I switched to the Omnipod in August and it has been an amazing change. If you have any questions, feel few to ask. I love your videos!

+dreamflight6000 yes! I think 45 days is plenty of time. That's 15 pods and I say you would know by the 8th pod if it will work for you :)

I ADORE my Omnipod. I have been using it since 2008, and I would not go back to a tubed pump. I was really hoping that Dexcom and Omnipod would have a partnership by now, but hopefully that's in the works for the future. Good luck with your trial!

As a 15 year old girl who has had Type One Diabetes for almost 3 years, I was given a Omni Pod trial and to begin with i truly hated it. It felt far to big and got in the way of a few things. Although we decided in the end to get one. It was honestly one of the best decisions i have made! I loved my pump but i'm very active and it would get in the way of sports. I also love swimming and the pump of course got it the way, so when i got the omni pod i was able to swim and still be able to give myself insulin if needed. With skintac i found it stays on more securley and doesn't start to peel around the edges. :) I'm now used to it and i truly lobe them!

I've had the omnipod for two weeks and I went from being 300 ALL the time to being in the 100s! It doesn't hurt, and is very convenient especially for parents to be able to bolus for their kids when their kids are off being kids. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Omnipod is awesome! It is waterproof! It's amazing that it is tubeless because he's a little kid, and little kids love to play. The PDM is also a blood glucose meter! It's so cool, and if you aren't able to use the PDM as a meter, you can enter it in manually. You can do basal increases and decreases, and the increase helps if he starts to spike in the morning or at any time. Decrease is great for activity.

My daughter currently has the Animas Ping and its been great. However she has a hard time not fooling with the tubing and she figured out how to unlock the pump right away. I have been going back and forth considering the Omnipod for a month now. She wore the demo and we had zero problems with it not coming off. I'm still not sold though. The thing so far that has me worried is if you have a failed pod and its the middle of the night you must remove the pod before putting a new one on. Insulin lost and now I have to work to get this thing off my sleeping child before putting on a new one.I'll definitely look to see what you do going forward.

We are new to this and my husband isn't wearing a pump yet, but could be in our future so I've been trying to learn about what is out there. I was impressed when I saw the pod because of the flexibility it looked like it would give. Hopefully they can make improvements to those issues and it can become a really great option for very active diabetics. Look forward to your review.

I don't know much about the omnipod... However, I have had the medtronic pumps for years now and absolutely LOVE it. I actually enjoy the fact that I can take the pump off etc and it has made life so much easier, so in general, I really recommend getting a pump, be it an Omnipod or not :)

You can also dilute the insulin so you can give more than a unit or half a unit do he doesn't need to eat. Also if on novorapid and lantus he won't need to wait 3 hours to eat again or eat on schedule. You eat when you want.

If the omni pod doesn't work out, I hope it does, there are other pumps out there. I personally have the Animas One touch ping which is fantastic. You don't lose any insulin and the glucometer pairs with the pump. The only downside is that the pump is connected to the infusion set by tubing. It also has the most fine tuned insulin delivery system (0.05 units).

Hope you guys like the omnipod! I would definitely give it a try! No experience here with it but I have heard some people love it and some people don't. Never know till you try! The concept is cool but for some reason our endos only recommend Medtronic 640g and another pump by Roche which I believe isn't available in the States.

I have the omni pod I've had it for 3 years now I'm 17 and I love it, it's very convenient for traveling and when I first got it I got it for when I would go on away games for volleyball and for me it doesn't fall off depending on where it it I put it on my upper abdomen and lower and it stays all 3 days just fine, I use to put it on my lower back and it would get peeled off when I go into chairs sometimes so I only put it their if I know a situation like that won't happen, you get very used to after about a week and it is just so nice I love mine so much and would definitely recommend it. any other questions you have I could tell you!

I was on the pod for about 1yr and half. I kept going back and forth with it . I had amazing results with it for a few months then i noticed my pods would leak or the canula would bend but mostly the insulin would leak around the outside and i wasnt absorbing insulin right my a1c went from 7s to 9s on it. i loved loved it being off tubes for 8 years but sadly it kept leaking i had to change my pods like 3-4 times a week skin tack works with keeping it on..i wasnt able to wear it on my arms alot cuz it would get sore all the time...some people it works well others can tell you ita issues pods fail alot.. TSLIM is by far my favorite pump

+Crazyhecticmommywifelife I'm back to thinking we will just stay on shots. I'm hearing too many negative reviews.
@CrazyhecticmommywifelifeSarahR
heck i even went to shots after the omnipod cuz i was tired of the tubes and tired of the issues with the pod...im back on tslim which is amazing way better than shots but the tubes are annoying i could imagine a kid having to deal with them..i dont do well with lantus or else i would do shots did u see the new device that medtronic came out with it has a thing like a pump site where u put ur needles in it so u never have to actually take a shot

I would love to try the omnipod but we just got the dexcom and i love it but our son is not loving it. He doesnt love it being on him all the time. I hope he will adjust to it but i KNOW he wouldnt do well with something else on him. It is a little big as well. So far he doesnt mind injections so guess we'll stick with that for now.

difficult decision .. we want our kids to have as much freedom as possible an be able to eat an drink things at birthdays or special events just like the other kids an everything which is why a pump sounds great but at the same time there can be so many issues with the pump im still up in the air if its worth it. my Logan is only 4 so im not in a rush for it yet but when he starts school an stuff i might try it but gosh idk its always a pros an cons list with these things.

@kimberlycasavant7606
@kimberlycasavant7606 8 лет назад
Would you never go back to a regular pump with him? Now that he is older, the tube system of a pump might work better for him than it did when he was younger. It would give him the same freedom that you talked about the omnipod giving him.
@dreamflight6000
@dreamflight6000 8 лет назад
+Kimberly Casavant Funny you say that. I just messaged our nurse to see about just going back on the animas pump. We had the worst time with the company double charging us but I'm looking into seeing if we can get the supplies from a different distributer.
@kimberlycasavant7606
@kimberlycasavant7606 8 лет назад
+dreamflight6000 Yes, Animas can be a major pain to deal with sometimes... My 11-year-old stepson wears an Animas pump. Ordering our supplies each month can be a real pain, but we are glad that he has been able to become a fairly independent diabetic as a result of being on a pump for so long. :-)

hmm yes that is weird. I have the echo pen and I leave the needle tip on all the time cause I'm cheap and reuse needs but yes some insulin comes out at times but as long as a prime the pen each time before I dose it works perfect. So each time I use it I keep dialing 0.5 unit until I see insulin come out of the needle then I know its primed

+dreamflight6000 At least there is a grace period for trying it out if you decide to get it. Evan has been on the Medtronic pump and sensors for 3 yrs now and we are changing to Animas pump and Dexcom. I'm hearing great things about that combo and it sounds like you love the Dexcom. Medtronic sensors are not as accurate anymore and we get a lot of 'errors'. I forgot, does Henry have the G5? Seems like I remember you saying he uses an iPod at school. So did you have to purchase the receiver separate? Or did it come with the G5? Thank you Amy!
@dreamflight6000
@dreamflight6000 8 лет назад
+Carrie Pilling We love the Dexcom! We returned the G5. We are sticking with the G4. The receiver comes with it. The iPod stays in his backpack so we can see his number on our phones. You'll love it!
@LittleMissiHeartM
@LittleMissiHeartM 8 лет назад
+Carrie Pilling Have you thought of waiting till the new Medtronic pump/cgm comes out in the states? We have it here in Europe and absolutely love it for our 4 year old. It suspends before lows and will start itself again after the blood sugar has come back up. Not sure when it will come out in the states though...I hear the FDA is slow with such things. I use the Medtronic pump myself (also type I) and have had amazing accuracy with the CGM---sometimes it depends on how you calibrate it (never calibrate with arrows) and how often you calibrate it (only 2-3 times a day). Once we started following this advice the sensors have been pretty much spot on all the time.

You might try placing the Omni Pod on it on his back or side instead of his arm because that part of your body doesn't move nearly as frequently as say your arm or your leg. I forget what its called, but they make a sticky spray that could hold it to his skin better. Tega-derm (spelling ?) might help too. I've had a Medtronic Pump for 5.5 years (diabetes since I was 5 yrs old) and I love it. It does have a tube though. There is a glucose sensor (a new one) that you can get too. I'm sorry your struggling with this. I have had diabetes now for 20 years so I have been through the ups and downs. Hang in there.
