Hallucinating darts and hysteria can destroy spawn waves. But don't try to dodge the chaos and the raining arrows. Get out there and run some circles shooting poison at the meanest enemies.
You’re forgetting another attack that the shield Oni has, if it is being attacked, it does a backwards spin move that has a very fast startup. It is also unblockable/unparryable.
I was just about to say the same thing it's probably one of the most annoying attacks as it has a super fast start up and dodging fast enough sometimes doesn't even work as u can still get caught
@@PSVRBRASIL the devs were probably thinking; "Okay so lets give them Khotun Khan's movelist" "But we need to make it harder, its nightmare difficulty" "How about; a teleporting Khotun Khan Oni?!" "Write that down!"
Great thx, needed this. I find for the big purple hammer brutes, if you dodge the first twirl of his hammer, you can keep attacking him through the next two twirls (even though they look like they should hit you).
Yeah I find the oni brutes to be the easiest to counter. For the triple ground slam, all you have to do is time each hit to side step behind them and their big circle aoe can be jumped last second.
There should be an update to these videos. Every bigger mob now got an "Super Armor" buff which makes most attack series not interruptable by Smoke Bombs, for instance. Every mob got increased leashing range by their follow up attacks which means, when before you could dodge the 1st attack completely with a evasion roll now you will get caught by the follow up. Barbarians will have a bigger initial range with their axe sweep. You need to roll or get caught. Spear mobs in general spam foot sweeps to force you to jump instead of perfect parry. Now the Oni defenders + lords: they are able to follow your dodge roll with their charge, which means, before you could roll safely when you saw a charge incoming. Now if you roll after the setup the charge will aim at the position you evaded to. You have to dodge while they are charging. The lords do the same and their whirling cleave cannot be evaded as easily anymore. If you get caught in the initial whirl and are thrown through the air you are done. The whole attack deals aoe dmg on impact and the cleave tracks the same way now as the spear charge so even if the blade does not hit you the aoe dmg will and without dmg reduction or health +25, i. e., you are dead. Which makes this game more tedious than fun imho since it enforces crazy builds to overcome those enemies before they have the chance to actually engage in combat. The AI in general has improved. Smoke bombs will not trigger the "stare into the mist" animation immediately. Lords and brutes will finish their launched big attacks even through the smoked area. Mobs immediately run further away from a smoked area so assassinations and critical hits will take more time to setup. Archers use the environment more efficiently and their teleportings are more difficult to track. They port into your back now nstead mostly sideways like before. Brutes have a slightly bigger range with their 3 hit maul attack and their maul aoe dmg radius seens to have increased slightly, too. Or maybe just more dmg... I noticed yding by incidental aoe dmg more times than ever. All in all the predicament of more incidental attacks is really annoying and not an improvement. Sometimes you get caught by 3 shield bearers and the play tennis with you while a big brute launches its aoe blast to finish you off. Likewise you cannot use ghost weapons as easily in midst animations anymore. Legends survival was a great casual playground but the latest "improvements" made it less accessible to experimenting while having fun. Not a big of a fan anymore.
I don't know if it is pure luck but I've found that the projectile thing attack by shielded onis can be countered if you go right under the shield. You can pretty much massacre the oni if you do it in time
@@GooshyG and that little split second animation after you kill your enemy, where the sword kinda gets stuck and the character pulls it out. That's when the Hwacha hits me in the face. Feels unfair man. I honestly think you should have maybe a couple i-frames during some animations
Assassin: hit with hallucination dart, after its worn down, smoke to crit strike, dodge, track it, smoke again, crit strike again, parry to finish off. Hunter: Keep distance, pepper it with fire arrows, explosive arrow, parry to finish off Samurai: haha, ult go chop chop Ronin: *D I D S O M E B O D Y S A Y B O O M?*
I could swear the regular spear n shield Oni have a sort of helicopter dash, too, spinning the spear over the head as they dash forward. Or maybe things got too hectic and I imagined it 😬
I first played the legends mode and then went to the campaign, when I got to Khotun Khan, I recognized his movements and soon realized who they were, I defeated him so easily
Needs an update for the 'aggressive foes' modifier. -- Apart from being a little faster at least some aoe-attacks have a vastly improved tracking! -- Not sure how to 100% avoid getting hit...
My favorite enemy I love the way they run 2:48 - 3:33 My favorite move 4:52 I enjoy fighting one on one with them at least they give me a challenge unlike the other enemies. My second enemy and my favorite move of theirs 0:51
The worst attack in the game is when a normal/oni spearman is really close to you and they do a light attack that shows an animation but you can't predict it because they either attacks 0.01 seconds after the animation or do a long delay until you're block is un-parryable making it impossible to predict (EDIT) I'm especially referring to when the spearmen throw their spear back)
To deal with Oni archers chain cc is really good. Ronin does really well at soloing an archer because of bombs. I like to hit them to 2 light attacks and throw a bomb down. Rinse and repeat and they can’t move :D
you can dodge the first hit of the quadruple spear swipes on the spear oni by dodging backwards. keep backwalking and you dodge the rest of it (lunge excepted)
Why not mentioning the effectiveness of wind stance against them? Like being able to automatically parry and attacking through some of their attacks with it?
Well he did say Spear Oni which should already be telling you wind stance, but to be honest as a Ronin with no wind stance id be dealling with other types of enemies
Thing is you can't parry/ perfect parry their unblockables and wind stance triangle will only stagger 'em on the third hit. They have plenty of time to land a strong unblockable attack on you before you land that third hit. Plus there is a last attack not mentionned in this video a very fast unblockable attack purple spear oni lords usually do at very close range that is almost instant which is the most fearsome of their arsenal imo. The only spammable thing that stagger 'em is bomb pack.
I personally try to focus fire on the Onis first then the grunts but it can vary if theres tengus and the arrow demons then I focus on them first because the others have to be up close to you and they can beat you down from a far
When the oni does the unblockable dash attack you can actually roll away and roll back to the oni and get some hits the oni will go idle for like 2 seconds so you can get some hits on him
Personally with any oni I throw a concussion bomb down, hit them three times then rinse and repeat until they are deaded :D Now I just want to learn to perfect dodge every attack.
If you can get them in a corner or against a wall, you can overwhelm them with Water, Wind, and Moon Stances, not sure about Stone. I can keep them pretty much stunned as long as I want by myself, as long as it's just one on one.
if youre using hunter i recommend getting fired up, fire master, status effect duration and way of the flame. i usually pair it with water stance but it even with light attack spam this combo will melt any oni health bar and maybe even kill them if you get a really big opening to go ham on them
6:20 yeah running in circles and dodging/rolling you can literally hold a Survival Nightmare Circle indefinitely except if there are Tengu lol. 4:59 you can jump at least the first spear sweep, granted I only do this if I'm going to be running by one of these guys, if I see it start the animation I jump while running by it. If you short dodge to the opposite side of their spear you can perfect dodge the 2nd and 3rd sweep attack for sure but it's not worth it I've only done it on accident (perfect dodge meaning time slows down and you get a free thrust counter attack).
...and some of the red attacks which you identify as area-of-effect-type are actually not. Those have no "explosion" at the end _and can be perfectly dodged._
Theres this one attack on the shield oni lords which is like a get off me move but and its so annoying. He spins away from you while also interrupting you. I swear all it does it spam that one move
I'm super late w legends as I'm playing for only 6days now; so I'm trying to see if anyone knows this: oni-archers are SUPER WEAK against an assassin's blowdart w the assassin's poison-damage tech active. 1 blowdart kills basic archers no matter where you shoot them. And oni-archers takes like 2-3shots. Head shots kills them instantly on any difficulty. Also on any difficulty. When any enemy attacks if you turn the camera around completely taking enemies off the screen, they cease to attack...
I've been trying to figure this out for a while now but are the white haired spear oni the highest hp/tier enemy that we face in nm survival? Or is the purple variant the "stronger" version?
Purple. If you noticed from single player, SP likes color coordinating tiers of enemies. White haired are the normal oni. Purples are the cracked version lol.
@@GooshyG yeah I could see from the color coordination but I always doubted the white haired spearman due to being more rare. Unless I'm totally mistaken about how often they appear in waves. Are there any plans to compare the stats for the white haired spearman? They seem pretty identical to me with the white haired spear oni having the highest hp which sounds like I may have been mistaken about.
Brute oni: use moon stance heavy attack, it’ll stop them from doing anything, I promise you. Oni shielder: use the water stance heavy combo to break their guard, then use it again to do some major damage. Bow oni: samurai can block all of his arrows. If you’re not the samurai, listen for his bow and dodge accordingly. Spear oni: the wind stance is his weakness. You can block all blockable attacks using the wind stance’s heavy attacks. And whenever he does his unblock-able attacks, roll towards and around him. Basically roll behind him. Crow oni: run around him and use the wind stance to break his guard. Remember to run in circles, the crows won’t be able to touch you if you’re actually running around.
Best way to dodge the AoE of the spear/shield Oni lord is to get right up in his shit and stand right next to him. You will never get hit if you're close enough to attack him!!
Is it safe to assume these tricks also work against the white/silver haired Oni Lords? I think they're the same except they have larger health pools, and I believe they deal more damage. I've been one shotted by their more powerful hits.
Good video as always gooshy but just wondering the spear oni didn't he have a attack that's so small u can hardly see it but it takes off a good bit of hp
Man I need help I don’t know what has a higher rate drop nightmare or gold to get like the masters katana and the masamune one pretty sure I slaughtered that name 😂
I think they oni lords are actually a little broken. Most annoying thing is if you attack them from behind their forward attack away from you still does damage to yo. Like I use wind stance and most of the time I still can't take them down without using ghost weapons. They should be nerved a little bit imo.
@@GooshyG do they have less health? For some reason I keep thinking they have more. But they do have a couple of different moves. First one that they counter much more and quicker in the middle of your attacks. Then they have a combo that ends with a tracking blue attack. I hate them lol.
