The care and time you have put in to explaining each of the seperate processes and theories involved in what, one assumes, started as a hobby is mind blowing. I truly believe you should be doing TED talks.

super nice explanation on how the xray detector works, and how the different xray photos are deteccted.

Wow! Thank you for your SEM Videos! We have two old JEOL scopes similar to what you have (JSM804 and 845A) one with a liquid nitrogen cooled detector an another SSD detector. Your videos have been so informative. I wish we had someone like you to ask for help with our microscopes.

Very cool, don't know what you do for a living, but I hope you consider teaching at some point. The world needs more quality teaching professors.

+Kent VanderVelden thanks :) I think teaching at some point would be cool. I’m not the best but I enjoy it

Hi, can EDS identify bound minerals or metals deep in the sample? Or it gives the surface compostion of selected area?

Hey Really interesting video, and a good explanation of the fundamentals. Check out the Oxford instruments xmax detector. Their 150mm2 windowless detector can see lithium. Something worth getting into is pulse pile up. If two xrays arrive close enough together that the second xray arrives during the response time of the electronics, it causes a count which is processed as the sum of the two xrays by the pulse processor. OI have some very good algorithms for detecting pileup pulses and splitting them back out into their respective xrays which were summed.

hello, your video was helpful... can you please guide some theory for SI-SDD detector that how it converts photons/sec into counts/sec hitting the detector. is there any theoretical formula or any conversion factor which do the things of converting photons/sec into counts/sec.

I love you man. I'm afraid why u should have only 162 likes while dumbasses which call themself celebrities have millions of followers. U deserve bests man. I am a researcher as well. never feel off if you was ignored. Love you man. World needs people like you

Have you made a video on SED and back-scattered electron detectors? If not that would be really interesting. Btw great video you are doing awesome and important work!

I am trying to mount an oxford pentafet style detector onto a 6330F. where did you get the drawings for the mounting plates?

Hey Sam, what college do you go to and/or are looking at going to? I am personally hoping for UC Berkley to double major in electrical and computer engineering, but ill take what ever school takes me honestly ;) Cheers!

[8:40] Energy difference (electron Vbetween shells are different for all the atoms in the periodic table [25:11] More [...] current (Amps?) is more counts. (but also more noise? How do you keep the noise low and increase counts?)

We are using OXFORD X-MaxN detector(SN:70727 Model- 51-XMX1146) and Inca software. We are unable to find lithium in our samples. In our sample lithium composition in weight percentage is 10-15. Please help me how we can find Lithium in our samples using this detector and Inca software.

Try to record the audio with better quality. Nobody wants to hear the pump in the background. There are lots of tutorials / infos about this on youtube. This is just way too much noise. For a quick-fix: Filter the noise with audacity or whatever software. Obviously this is not the best way and you should record it better.

I quite like the pump sound and other machinery as long as it is not too loud.
