@@fathertime9703why do people always say this bc their tall? Lmao The Dutch people aren’t Scandinavians or descendants of Vikings raids…they are mostly descendants from the native Germanic tribe, the Batavians and to some degree Franks in the South and Frisian’s in the North
@@bastian9693Exactly, as a swede who visited the netherlands, I can say people in Sweden are not even close to as tall, and most definitely have more viking descendants.
Quite funny indeed. I'm 178 cm in The Netherlands and I'm considered short. At least 70% of men are taller than I am, but also some 30% of women are taller than I am. When I'm abroad, people never believe me, till I show group photos.
I am dutch and i glad you liked visiting our country! 🇳🇱 Also my cousin is 2.20m tall, and needed to take growth stunting pills so she would stop growing.
I am a Dutch guy who is 1.76m For the average person I am not that small. But here in the Netherlands I feel like a midget compared to the rest around me. Even most women that I meet are taller than me. It feels refreshing traveling to other countries and being average or sometimes even considered tall.
Makes sense, to put it into perspective: The average height for males worldwide is 170cm. The average height for women in the Netherlands is 169cm. Plus the male average in the Netherlands is also way higher at about 183cm… Insane numbers when put into perspective like this.
As a Dutch guy from 176 born in the north of the country and moved to the south, that helpt me a lot. People is the south of the Netherlands are smaller, stil big but more like 1:80. And the woman 170! Try that 😜
When I was studying ergonomics in uni we were talking about the normal proportions of northern Europe and for ex. east Asia... They are so vastly different. that's why every manufacturer that wants to expand their reach needs to understand the middle height of every country and create products appropriately.
Thank you!! as much as I like for example Uniqlo they have to understand that their size doesn't fit this countries average height, the clothing are often too short around my waist or around my arms due to the fact that Large is like a medium or small for a lot of people, therefore they're losing a good chunk of the demographic.
@@shadowbl4zer Uniqlo sizes are already very different in Europe compared to Asia. Everything is one size larger, minimum. Sleeves are shorter. You can't even get any men's socks under size 42 at Uniqlo EU whereas in Japan they start at 40 (25cm).
So many problems. Nintendo making rides no westerner fits in, Sony making VR glasses that aren't suited for a lot of western noses and the list goes on. Problems compound when you are tall for even western standard. Freaking Sennheiser doesn't include ear tips that are big enough for my ears. They throw in XS, but XL is nowhere to be found. That is a german company (now swiss owned), not some company from Japan or Korea. Smh.

😂 As a 160cm person in the Netherlands..... This is me when going to Korea (or anywhere in Eastern or Southeast Asia). When I'm in Korea I finally can use the toilet comfortably. I see myself in the mirror finally. The sink is at a good height, too. Clothes finally look normal on me! I also like that I can actually reach all shelves at the grocery store. In the Netherlands I have to scout the supermarket for a step if I need something from the top shelf. Sometimes I have to ask other people for help to get the stuff for me, the shelves are just so tall. When I moved back to the Netherlands, I remember trying to find the buttons in an elevator, and I saw only walls. Then I looked up and realized that one of the "walls" was a Dutch guy. The only good thing is that beds are huge, so that's comfortable. I'm visiting Korea again in a few weeks, can't wait to feel normal for a short while.
@@ApequH The freezer shelves are bad indeed. I don't trust their fastening, so I don't climb those. 😂 Legspace is good indeed! Also drivers are already very attentive in the Netherlands in general, but they are especially nice to me, because from afar they always assume I'm a school kid. I'm in my thirties. 😂 Speaking of which... Finding a small enough bike that's not a kids' bike was virtually impossible (meanwhile already in Germany you have smaller bikes for grownups). Also during sales my clothing size is always, always still in stock in the Netherlands. In other countries it's gone by the time I check out sales.
Thats funny. If you need something from a top shelf, just ask a man, we are happy to help tiny women, it gives a good feeling. My girlfriend is about 155cm and she really struggles, just holds on to my arm in public surrounded by giants. But we make fun about it so its okay.
Maybe, but 193 cm is still a good bit over the adult male average in the Netherlands, tales and myths apart. You can cherrypick very tall people, but that´s not the average.

Love the format, very documentary style, very slickly produced. Specially getting the Korean woman in to comment from the other end. I recently took a trip to Ireland, and got the reverse experience ( I'm 1.92, my boss is 1.95m.), partially also because the buildings (the B&B where we stayed and the pub where we ate) were older buildings with doors of 1m80 and 1m90 which is abnormal in the NL for a 20 century building. But even the quite recent factory was noticeable shorter with 2m high doors (something that already changed in the NL to 2m10 in the seventies or earlier and is already at 2m20 since 2000 or so) . A 183cm Polish colleague already welcomed us with a "welcome to the land of the midgets", so he apparently had the similar experiences.
as a dutch person, its fun to see how people that were born/raised outside of europe (mainly outside germany, the netherlands and france) react and explore cities like amsterdam, berlin or paris. for some reason i find it very entertaining to see people be amazed at things that are (for me) quite normal, like taller ceilings or more space in the bus, train, tram and metro. same with the clothing seizes, i've been waching asian people (mostly japanese and korean) on youtube that film their experience in the netherlands and alot of the time its very wholesome to see people get exited/amused by how big/tall some things are. but then again, thats just my opinion ^^ i hope you enjoyed your stay in the netherlands! (from what i could see mostly amsterdam)
Newbuild houses need to comply to 2.60meter height ceiling in order for future growth of the dutch person. If people become 2 meter + on average. (ok last thing was a joke) but the 2.60meter rule is a real rule.
Even in France, 1,90-2 meters is not the norm, you guys are aliens Here, on average people are 175 cm (for guys) and 165 (for girls) and I'm 1,57 cm....
Я теперь очень хочу побывать в Нидерландах🥲 я из центральной Азии и мой рост в 15 185 при этом я девочка. А средний рост мужчин здесь это 160-170 а у девушек 150-160. Я очень очень высокая но я обожаю свой рост
As a Dutchy, I'm 183cm which is below average of the height of Dutch men. So I don't feel tall. But visiting other countries always puts that into perspective. Awesome to see you liked our country!
I guess they have to search really hard to find these short players, kinda like how countries in asia search very hard to find someone over 2m to play center in basketball.@@user-dv9te1ps1z

So great to see a video of you visiting the Netherlands! I am Dutch myself and have seen a couple of your videos interviewing Koreans, so this is really fun. Life here is indeed adapted well to people of such a height. Concidentally, last year I have been to Korea as a 1,73m woman. I noticed there how many people looked so beautiful, sophisticated and with such a slim frame. I have seen grown men in suits being more petite than me lol even though I am by no means overweight.
Very cool! Nice to see how you experience The Netherlands. Our ceilings in houses are standardized as well. New houses have ceilings that are minimal 2.60m and doors are minimum of 2.30m high. The width of a door is 1,0m so wheelchairs have enough room. All the public spaces/transport use that dimensions as well.

Dutch person here. Hope you enjoyed our country. I actually am super short for a Dutch person. I am 166cm. I actually went to South-Korea for shopping new clothes and it finally matched me much better! 🤭🤭
This was a cute watch, I’m Dutch, and to see a foreign perspective as someone who’s tall in a country where they’re normally not that tall makes it very interesting. Especially the things you normally have to pay attention to. But imo, being 171cm, I did find some of the doors and ceilings being built very low when I visited China, Thailand, and Singapore. 😅 for public transport, housing, etc. But I think this is due to architecture heritage culture, and not because of the length of people. Because before people had money we’d live in very tiny houses, worker houses, even houses made from clay. You can imagine these did not have high ceilings or much room for movement. However, in rich environments it has always been grandeur if you have high ceilings. And I still think high ceilings are great to have in your living space. Going to Asia, the grandeur in architecture is similar in housing style, but different depending on what country you look at. Thinking of that most of the houses were built out of wood instead of stone, furthermore they were raised up from the ground (different heating system applied), and you can think of more things that had been used for a long time as normal. Where the 15/16/17 century the city houses became more common, and especially in the 18th century this changed completely where any countryside workers would move to the city to work in the factories. This these thiny row worker houses were built. This style you still see today in the Netherlands, except the row houses are built twice as big in terms of m2 living space. This culture in architecture is all linked to history and customs, and highly linked to economy. And the economy, as we all now is influenced sometimes by force, especially during the “golden age”, Asia did not always profit as much as Europeans would with the trade that was brought back home. And the wars have had a huge influence too, including changes of political power and governance. This in terms have changed the outlook of how cities and villages were rebuilt afterwards. And at that time it often needed to be affordable, and cost effective. And still today they often built in that style. So if everyone always used a set sized door, it’s difficult to change this when it’s not common in that country to do so. And the the foreign eye it might look at thinking it’s not very logical, but that’s simply because you should look at it from a different perspective. And then it suddenly does seem logical as why certain things are the way they are. 😅😊
It's so refreshing to see the perspective of you. I'm Dutch and a 178 cm woman. The times I was in Thailand, all eyes were on me 'cause "giant". But the facilities were definitely a hassle 😅 Glad you could experience tall-land!
