wait are you watching it without giving to their patreon? How dare you. Me too though. I don't have adblock so I at least tell myself I'm doing my part..
Imo this whole situation improved much over the previous seasons. I feel like the two casters actually care much more to come prepared and at least try to provide better analysis and overall professionality compared to the way they behaved before...
@@ThatPianoNoob all the videos get demonatized cause they use copyrighted music. its legal to use under korean law, but not under youtube aka american law. afreeca makes 0 money from youtube.
The current meta is to delay getting the caster volume upgrade because it tends to synergize better with the more complex storylines and developed themes you find in the typical late-game. It's important to spice things up occasionally though, and throw in a cheese cast where you try to end things early by shouting at max volume right from the start.
Maybe half of that 15k dolla per month should go to Nyoken and Gyosy cast :D cuz it is late and tastless doesnt have a clue about SC anymore, he constantly say this in his cast while asking arto :D
@Booby Belly I THOUGHT SO TOO, BUT ACTUALLY nYOKEN AND GYPSY ASRE 1ST BETTER PLAYERS SO THEY HAVE MORE INSIGHT, 2ND they are not washed up like tasteless, who seems he wanna do anything else but cast sc1,
Well you could really feel the excitement from Artosis during the Scan games because Scan is such a good friend of his, he was realllly rooting for him, and frankly I think that's cool, I'm here for the excitement not cold clinical 'unbiased' commentary.
Part of that is probably the format change, tbh. When they where doing this in a studio they would have to focus on a lot more things - the crowd, the producers/production crew chatting in their ear, etc, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure they have the same conduct restrictions - for example, no excessive swearing, don’t put anything inappropriate in screen, etc, but now it’s just two working soulmates sitting on Artosis’s couch watching their favourite games on Tasteless’s LG laptop, of course drinking Hot6 ;)
I don't think they seem that much more into SC1. They are a little more interested because there's more you can do with it overall. For example Snow's Reaver micro versus Shuttle saved the game more than a couple times. That difference in micro skill is rarely seen in SC2. So I get it, sometimes in SC2 you know how a PvP will go by the first couple of units made.
@@DerpHerper Unfortunately SC2 used to have that micro potential too, it's just that players are all so good now that there's very few with markedly superior micro. A few stand out like maru byun parting etc, but it's nothing like the good old days when Marineking was blowing everyones minds with his splits vs banelings or when immortal prism micro first became a thing in LoTV, or when Byun was so skilled with reapers that they literally had to nerf them twice just because of him. In sc2 they've kind of balanced the game in such a way that superb micro doesn't make that much of a difference now. It's unfortunate because players with exceptional micro were always my favorite. Solid macro is cool and all but superb micro is way more fun to watch
I wish we had the non-caster mode Artosis casting the pvt games, especially the first. He kept praising Snow's play, but all I could hear was: "bullshit race!" "no skill required" "what is this mine doing!?!?!" "oh yea, nexus first, loses all his probes, still stops my 3rd" "you just can't punish protoss when he does bullshit like this"
I highly doubt it would be OK’d on Afreeca’s end, but they should definitely see if they can do an R-Rated Audio version where it’s just Tasteless mocking an increasingly frothy Artosis over the bop TvP games to release as a Patreon bonus.
Guys, congrats for the sound tweak. In previous casts your mic setup was good, but a bit too saturated. Today it's MUCH better. Great!!! And obviously, thanks for the effort and keeping SC alive, etc. The usual you do ;)
Besides Flash not being in, I'm really sad about SoulKey not being in. It's such a scandal that he got scammed and has no legal recourse, and now he's in such poor financial shape that being in ASL just isn't financially the best choice for him right now.
I felt sooo bad for Scan. SnOw played his best game in years value wise, and then he had such an upsetting loss to sSak to get knocked out in what's likely to be the best TvT matchup in this tournament. (There's plenty more to come with all these Terran players, but I mean they damned near mined out the map and mistakes were minimal. It'll be hard to beat.) All in all I think this is going to be the best group out of round 24 from a viewing perspective. They were all long nail biter games after the first couple.
@@Desoliraa He played scared and you could tell. Even versus snow when he was taking his 3rd base snow had ZERO zealots when scan had like 8 tanks and a bunch of vultures, he could of easily pushed up and got his 3rd base cleared. Scan had only like 10 goons and 2 reavers, but he played scared and inched up way to slowly and let scan get zealots, then it was over.
I feel like the production value for ASL went wayyy down the last couple seasons. Not only was the English cast cancelled but also it's just not as flashy. There aren't any of the usual stats they used to show. Like when it says the win percentage vs each race for each player and all the info in Korean which I can read. I specifically elarned Korean because of Starcraft and now they trying to screw me over!!!!
I mostly disagree. I watched all ASLs (except for vant and 8) last year and they've been quite consistent production value wise since ASL4. The biggest thing that has changed is the fact that there's no audience, which eliminates shots of big crowds and the hype that it creates, but that's inevitable considering the pandemic. The winrates of each player in each match up do appear only before the first game each player is going to play. Aside of that the only thing I'm missing is the graph with the players' history in ASL.
@@Galacsia Yeah that's what I'm talking about. The graphs and production value. It's not like a huge deal but they are cutting corners and it's quite obvious if you watch the old ASLs before the pandemic that shit was sooo hype.
Artosis watching Snow play : "He's so masterful." Artosis playing against a Protoss : "You're a try-hard loser playing a no-talent race!" Anyways, thanks for doing this guys! Love your casting!!!
@@Picaroon9 I agree. I gotta say, the 'Tastosis" team is by far the best casting team I've seen for Broodwar. I actually find it hard to listen to other English casters. They just don't have the same humor, chemistry, casting skills or bring the same excitement to the game. Tasteless' voice was made for casting and Artosis makes the perfect partner. When they stop casting, I'll probably stop watching Broodwar.
it’s a simple as tournament =/= ladder. The platonic ideal for the ladder is that it be tournament practice, but most people who ladder don’t enter tournaments and as a result play differently with different priorities
@@NiceGuyUncle obviously not my point. I'm just not comfortable with afreeca essentially getting free workers and profiting from it. Obviously this works out well for tastosis as long as patreon donators continue paying every month.
@@Domebuddy do you realize how much it costs afreecatv to produce the ASL? From setting up all the qualifiers, casting it in a studio etc etc. It’s actually tastosis making money from Afreecas work for “free”. Therefore it’s a win-win situation in my opinion :)
What a bad decision by Afreeca about canceling English cast for BroodWar! You guys could open patreon for English cast and get Tastosis for free and even earn money. Look at their Patreon they got 13500$ per month. GG Tastosis!
Im pretty sure 13.5 k wont cover the cost of broadcast, not only would afreeca have to pay tastosis salaries, they have to pay for equipment, stage, utilities, other worker salaries, etc. That all combined is definitely worth more that 13.5k
Tastosis use Twitch so Afreeca gets very little from the English side. If they were both afreeca users they could be in the Afreeca streaming-youtube ecosystem and they would get a portion of their stream donations. Then they might have more incentive to keep it going. And ASL English was getting like 2K views at the time, meaning the views didn't really justify the cost. For comparison, the 2007 Star Invitational Finals got 75,000 English viewers.
@@harizotoh7 That was on the YT restreams. Back when ASL got streamed on Twitch it got huge viewership, but then Afreeca decided to be stupid for some reason. It's also hard for the intended audience for ASL English to have notification on for their RU-vid because you''ll get absolutely spammed with videos in Korean and SC2. What they needed to do is to put it back on Twitch and put a separate channel for their English content, but that's never gonna happen
I think most of us would not pay for Afreeca. We pay for Tastosis, for their passion for the game, for the years they've put in, for the sacrifices they made, for the times they've kept the game going. ASL is great and all, but Tastosis is what I'm here for.
Scan is one of my favourite players and I was really hoping to see him get through. That being said, Sn0w played unbelievably well, that was fucken amazing!
There were actually hidden tracks even on vinyl albums. There were a lot of different ways to do it with different effects. Sometimes, part or all of the album was "double-grooved," so that the precise (usually uncontrollable) placement of the stylus determined which track played. On CDs, there is another way to hide tracks, but it is so subtle that most people don't know about it. The audio CD ("Red Book") standard includes a short section indexed 00 called the "pregap" before the first track. Typically it is just two seconds of silence, but it can be made longer and filled with music. The only way to hear it is to go to track 1 and then manually seek backwards. I don't know if any CD drives sold today have that capability.
Afreeca bois! Dont you see the support and desire of foreigners when it comes to english cast of ASL? Please consider hiring these guys back. I was one of those few thousands watching it live (even though it's early in the morning xD) and it would be fantastic to be able to do it in future. PS. Thank you for ASL in general
That last game was bad, it was the opposite of the last group where action and JyJ slugged it out to perfection, they each made so many stupid mistakes, I mean cmon shuttle couldn't win and in fact almost lost despite being absurdly far ahead in eco and what's worse ithat sSak threw away the game at a few different points. I cannot believe he threw away like 80 supply of tanks because he was too excited to win and didn't split them, then despite it being a game that by all accounts Shuttle had won he was able to live but stubbornly wasn't concerned about more bases, you pair 3 tanks that he lost out of the 16 or so and some better positional play and he has both 12 o clock up and 9 o clock up 10 minutes earlier than he had them, even if Shuttle pushed one out we saw what happened whenever Shuttle pushed, even his last push bled so many units and we kind of know that was Shuttle's max effort because he was dead if Ssak held. So even if he lost a base in order to trade 20 supply for 60 then Ssak wins
Ssak pushed up into the third base around 1:55:00 sorta unintentionally, because he was chasing scvs and killing them. He did overextend and probably shoulda killed the command center and backed up, but those scvs were just too tempting for him
The music selection is great. Although I watch these mainly for Brood War matches and Tastosis casts, gotta admit that I end up getting half of the songs used before/after the matches.
To me SC BW is cool to watch here and there but i cant watch it long only because it doesnt have a large variety unless its jaedong and i really hate how terran vs toss has to be mech ....mandatory, has to be mech cant bw bio, really like terran vs zerg doe more
For the thumbnail, could you increase the font size and move it more towards the middle of the screen in the future? I almost missed this in my subscription feed because I didn't see ASL in the thumbnail. Also HYPE!
@1:12:33 -- it's pretty unprofessional to say so and so is never going to win an ASL. you might have that opinion but voicing it as a caster is kind of shitty
Love how it goes from Artosis saying "he's gonna easily secure this 3rd, I think Scan knows he's in a really good position now" to Tasteless saying "Snow makes this look so insanely easy" in less than 10 minutes. Artosis goes through the 5 stages of grief in this match.
I'm pretty sure he still streams on twich, so after the usual twitch website addres, add /skryoo1004 But most of his twitch content is made up of coaching videos, and is for subscribers only. However, if you do get him live streaming, he is very responsive to his chat, both in English and Korean (which is cool, because it is not overcrowded and you could actually sometimes engage in conversation with him). His streams are VERY educational and he shares a lot of his insight to the game. Worth watching. He has a very good stream coaching Arty at Arty's house not so long ago. You can find it in Artys twitch, and it's well worth watching the whole stream. Every word he said was interesting. I was amazed to still be learning stuff from Scan 23 years after I played for the first time. Also, not sure about RU-vid. He definitely casts the ASL on Afreeca TV, and maybe even streams there, but only god can understand that website, and anyway, it just won't load on my European internet, so I don't even bother... That's as much as I know. I wish you luck, and please post any findings you may do!
@@thakrak Thank you. I'll look into it, the information is a big help. I main protoss and my secondary is Zerg so hopefully I'd be able to reverse engineer his insights on PvZ, but I wanted to give Terran an honest try since in 22 years of StarCraft myself I never really tried using that race outside of screwing around. Look forward to try some things.
I can't fully express how much I've enjoyed these Tastosis English commentary uploads of the ASL. I've loved Broodwar for so many years and now I can enjoy seeing some of the best SC players today being analyzed by two of the best casters of all time. Thank you Tastosis, AfreecaTV and all involved in the production! Please keep it up! Looking forward to Group E and my beloved Bisu! :)
Having Scan speak English was hilarious, especially the reaction of "don't make me translate any of that". The game sounds have a reasonable volume now, but Tastosis are still way too loud and have their mic too close (sound breaks when they raise their voice and the breath on P sounds etc is too audible).
