I work in an Aussie supermarket and have never seen pre made mashed potato, also the powdered stuff has been around but it's only been a few, so it can be hard to spot (esp if you aren't looking for it). So I don't blame bae for not knowing, afaik it's normal here to make it ourselves.

This two are always funny when they collab especially when it's just spontaneious collab. To be fair, I didn't know either that there was a premade mash potatoes until recently. I know the powdered stuff but that taste didsgusting! I just mash regular potatoes when preparing for dinner. But we eat rice daily (I'm Asian living in Australia) and eating mash potatoes at home only occurs at least once or twice a quarter. Also, our household rarely eat prepackaged food because we don't like the taste. It maybe faster to prepare but there's something missing on the taste.

Add milk, butter and a little extra velveta to your craft mac and cheese and it goes from decent to great.

if you're gonna break out thw velveeta might as well go the whole way. make elbow macaroni. drain and set aside. In the macaroni pan melt butter. Add some flour, mixing it completely with the butter. Be careful not to let it burn. Add milk and mix. Roux is done. Add velveeta cut into chunks (or shredded cheese). Once the cheese is melted and mixed with the roux your cheese sauce is done. Add the noodles back in and stir it up good. Look up an actual recipe for amounts but it's not that difficult.

Freeze drying potatoes has been a thing since at least the Incans, apparently. Not sure why dehydrated mashed potatoes seems so odd. Then again there are probably people who are so used to powdered mashed potatoes that they don't know that you can cook and then mash up actual potatoes (with butter, milk, and a bit of salt) to make mashed potatoes.

I think it's been almost 20 years since I had Kraft Mac N Cheese... but I think we just used water like the package says and it was fine? I preferred Kraft to homemade, anyway... so wouldn't be surprised if we didn't use milk. I honestly don't remember, though. I was never the one who cooked it back then. (I literally only ate Kraft, tbh. No homemade. I tried it once and hated it) I should ask my father. We had it like 4-5 days a week for 6 months I think and then I just couldn't anymore lol

Bae not knowing about pre-made mashed potatoes that gets packaged up and sold to be reheated, and especially not knowing about powdered mashed potatoes, is actually pretty baesed. She's only ever had the real stuff. And when it comes to Kraft mac, Bae is clearly talking about Easy Mac. Microwave + water + powder = Easy Mac, not the boxed stuff. Bae is not doing anything incorrectly here other than having Easy Mac instead of KD, but maybe that's all they have in Australia, so I dunno.

Honestly it is a little funny that adult Bae doesn't know these things, but she's also Asian so I don't know what's normal in her household. Instant mashed potatoes are a thing. I think it's just dehydrated potatoes in a flaky form. Pre-packaged mashed potatoes could be purchased at a grocery's deli but wasn't common on grocery shelves until more recently where everthing can basically be bought pre-packaged. There are two kinds of Kraft Mac and Cheese. The normal boxes which require butter and milk for preparation, and the little single serving cups that only require water and a microwave. The single serving cups are gross imo, and usually make a mess even though they're not supposed to bubble over. Stick to the normal boxes yoy make on the stove with the milk and butter.

Actually the stuff you can buy in restaurants and delis is premade usually and comes in a bag. Unless the restaurant is fancy or high quality. But usually it's just warmed up to temp in hot water and then the bag is emptied into a heat pan to stay warm. And it's actually pretty good. It will never beat home made but nothing ever beats freshly made. Edit: also i can make mac and cheese from scratch, but making it from the box is a little easier if I just need a quick lunch for me or my nieces and nephews. I buy the pre-made mac and cheese on holidays for family that can't eat meat to have an extra side dish that I don't need to make.
