Super excited to take you guys along with me as I go engagement ring shopping for the first time today! I start the video with a bit of a chatty get to know me, then we do some ring and hermes shopping 🤭, and lastly I finish the video off with some final thoughts on my ring shopping experience at Graff, Tiffany, and Harry Winston 💕 So excited to read your comments on which ring was your favorite!!

If youre never planning on selling your engagement ring/wedding set one day, i would go with a local jeweler that knows their stuff and is up and coming. I love supporting local and helping smaller businesses grow, i also think you can get more bang for your buck if you go for non branded. Youre essentially paying premium for the brand legacy but at the end of the day, all you get is bragging rights, youre not thinking of future revenue or returns since i dont think you want to sell your set in the future. I know that when youre making great money, you only want the very best, but just like cars and homes, that is money you couldve put aside for a trip or future kids . Just do what makes you happy, but keep it smart.

I’ve also just fallen in love with graff 🤭 I love that they’re a iykyk brand, but even beyond that they bring designs and colors that can’t be found else-and like you said they’re so dainty! I’m really going to have to make a game-time decision soon 😭 I’m quite an indecisive person so a decision as large as this one has been putting my mind through the wringer 😂 but definitely excited to share whatever I do end up choosing!! Definitely know how you feel being "bored" at work. I feel like because I'm fully remote and have stable workflow that I shouldn't complain because it's a good scenario... however I will say that planning my 5 event week long wedding myself whilst working was insanely stressful so I would advise you to sit tight and chill with it until your wedding is over!

Thanks for the cool engagement ring shopping with lots of shiny examples, and I like your feedback at the end of the shopping the next day with your thoughts on all three places. I think I’m partial to Graff because I been to one of their stores when I was a kid in Las Vegas and they always had the biggest most heart stopping pieces. Personally, I liked the more simple designs and dainty designs of Graff and I personally liked the warmer colors G or H because the warmth may have met depth and personality compared to icey white, but that just me. It will still turn out really white to the eye and unless you’re really color sensitive you may not notice it (though if the rest of your diamonds in jewelry are alll very icey at D or E you should probably get something really icey too.)

I think I always lean safe, whether that be in terms of color (neutrals) or in this case ring style (round/oval) 😂 the pear was stunning but I’m afraid I’ll also not like it as much in the future!

Hi Somin, I really enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing about your career goals. I am in the field of Clinical Data Science/ Data Strategy and Informatics. You described it well, it’s reporting, data analytics and pushing code but not terrible but definitely not super fun. I’m used to it haha. I’m in the Senior Management Role but can’t see myself leaving. Love the nail do up, just gorgeous. I hope you find the best ring. I end up going with an unbranded ring, a 2carat solitaire with stones wrapping around 1/2 the band. Mine was from 2018. Bands I have two, a white gold Cartier love ring and a regular band with stones going all around. The solitaire’s are so high that any band can pair well. ❤❤❤

Thank you for sharing about your career!! I took an intensive course on data analytics recently at Berkeley because data and AI have just exploded over the past few years. I think I could also be interested in clinical data science since it’s relevant to what I do now! 🥰 I’m definitely also considering doing a custom lab grown ring or local jeweler as well, and I think I’m leaning towards the halo style! I’ve been a maid of honor 3 times now and each bride has picked a solitaire diamond 😂 so I’m not sure if my want for halo is also because I want something different from my friends as the last of the group to get married 😂 but I do love how the halo sparkles like crazy ✨ It’s already so hard to pick my engagement ring, so I think it’s going to be another battle to pick out the right wedding band too! 😂 Thank you for all your kind words and insight, I really really appreciate it! 🥰

Aiming to spend the year slowly looking for a job without any pressure and remind myself that I’m lucky to be in a position where my current job is great, but it’s also ok to look for better! I would definitely consider doing a custom ring!! But generally I’m indecisive, so giving me the option to make anything would be very tough for me to settle on one design 😂 I think I will keep to a classic colorless diamond for now, but would love to get a colored one for a future anniversary! 🥰

Going with non branded you’ll save a ton. The second you walk out that brand name door your diamond is worth half what you bought it for. Halo looks best on you. Get def. At least vs2 with no fluorescence and look at the dimensions of depth and table. Diamond prices have really been dropping so be mindful of that. If it were me I’d go with lab at your age. Don’t blow all your funds on a branded ring. No one will know when you’re out and about. There are diamond cutters who work for Tiffany and blue Nile. It’s easy when you’re young and working for tech not to be mindful of spend and the future but before you know it you’re 50 and finding you wish you hadn’t been so profligate during your youth.

Totally agree. All my diamond jewelries are custom-made, and I design them myself, which makes it more special. I love the excitement of the whole process and the anticipation of what the finished product would look like. A certified diamond from Harry Winston is no different from other GIA certified diamonds you'd get from other sources. You'd save thousands of dollars.

Exciting times when evaluating your career path, life goals and wedding plans. Go see Rand Stewart at Cartier in SF. He’s the best and so attentive. They have a modest diamond selection, but beautiful. My future DIL wanted a lab grown diamond. Maybe it’s the wave of the future? Enjoy the process. And don’t worry, many women change their diamonds after many years of marriage. Your fingers are slim so many of the looks were beautiful on your hand.

Graff, HW, then Tiffany. In that order for me. I was very unimpressed by the Tiffany rings you wore, Graff looked the best imo. Thank you for expressing your career concerns, I understood the cryptic talk (I’m in a different industry from you but I understand) ! Haha 😄😉… but yes, I’m slightly at a crossroads myself but I trust we will ultimately figure it out! As far as the color of the stone goes, it depends on the setting you get. If you want white gold/platinum, then get a higher color. If you want yellow gold/rose gold then get a g/h color diamond. You'll save money bc the diamond will echo the setting it's in. I always tell my customers don't pay for something you can't see. Good luck shopping and I can't wait to see what you end up choosing.

I also think it’s totally fine to not add as much as before. I’ve been feeling the same way and I’m okay with that. I’ve also been really into getting deals!!! In terms of makeup girl you’re gorgeous. I love makeup and skincare would loveeee to chat about it!! A makeup item I cannot live without is lip liner😂. I don’t over line but I feel like I CANNOT wear something on my lips without lip liner!! LOL. But, how do you like the rosy glow blush? I’ve wanted to try one! You said you like to read! I do too. @@Somidoshop Yes!! The brand Juvia’s place has some AMAZING lip liners. They’re retractable and so so smooth. They go on beautifully. Same with revlon. With lip liners, I find that the higher end ones never give as much product as they should or they’re just outdated. Like whyyyy am I sharpening a lip liner still?!? Retractable all the way for me!😂 Right now I’m into sad romance books, and mystery books. I’ve always been into the mystery genre but the sad sappy books is a new thing for me LOLLL. Your boyfriend plays?! That’s awesome!! I’ve been playing for 20 years since I was 3! My boyfriend recently just started playing and I think it’s so cute. He has the best teacher of course (me😂😂😂). Truly you're blessed with good skin. I'm also a scientist by trade (and industry). I have dry acne-prone skin, and dry skin = more prone to fine lines and wrinkles. Yet I have sensitive acne-prone skin and oil (and eating nuts) tends to flare my skin up. So I use salicylic acid in an oil solution, as well as omega 3 face creams, glycerin and rose water for hydration and moisture and sometimes vaseline to lock that in (baby vaseline). I think knowing how to do makeup is amazing, I used to be a beauty consultant whilst studying biochemistry and I've learnt over the years (still learning too!) what looks natural and amazing on me. Looking forward to seeing HOW you reduce your consumption and shopping. Lastly, do you wear lashify daily/whenever you go out? Also lastly, you're blessed with tiny fingers lol because a 1ct with halo looks HUGE on you. I'd say don't go bigger than a 2ct? a 1ct looks like a 4 year old on my size 6.5 fingers. My engagement ring was from a family jewelers that my fiance's family have been shopping with for 3 generations, colour F, VS1 and emerald cut....you don't see the inclusions and its colourless.

Wow!! Thank you for all the tips I will definitely try to include some into my own skincare routine! Being a beauty consultant while studying biochemistry must’ve been a unique experience where you could see more modern applications or what you were learning! 🥰 I usually wear lashify when I’m going out!! Super easy to throw on and I don’t need to do any eye-makeup additional to it so it cuts down on my get ready time 🤭 But yes typically I only put my lashes on for the weekend (I don’t wear to work), and they last several days so I take them off Sunday night! My family has a jeweler we like to go to as well but in Korea! I’m looking into custom as well ☺️ but I’m a bit of an indecisive person so making the final decision is definitely tough for me 😂 Thank you so much for all the kind words, tips, and for watching!! 💕💕

You should ask about the cut of the diamonds! If you have a flawless and colourless diamond but it is poorly cut, it will not look white and perfect. With an excellent cut diamonds you may find that its okay with near colourless and VS :)

This first round of looking was mainly to look at all the different styles from well-known jewelry houses! I’m now expanding a bit of my search to look at custom designs and also local jewelers 🥰 for a while I had really wanted my ring from Harry Winston after seeing a stunning ring from them several years ago, but I also understand that buying a ring that expensive may not be the best use of funds since at the end of the day, it’s just a ring! So now just deep in thought for which direction I’ll actually go towards 😂 thank you for watching!! 💕

About the career stuff, it’s hard when you’re bored at work! But if you’re planning to have kids, a boring and easy high-paying job is nice when they are little, because pregnancy/mommy brain fog is real and kids cost a lot of money. It’s not too late to move on to something more exciting when the baby old enough to be at daycare for a year (because they get sick every other week during the first year). Btw I have a biology background too and I like playing with the data and coming up with the next idea rather than actually doing experiments so I find it interesting that you like to be hands on.

Ooo I would say VS2 would be fine and color is subjective but I actually thought Graff was actually the most stunning out of the three but I wonder if the Graff gave you the lower color because it’s probably even more expensive for the same stats as Harry Winston. Graff is known as the millionaires jeweler which why most people haven’t heard of them. I think Tiffany’s is pretty bland too. I do think Harry Winston diamonds were outstanding and had the best stats. Also, it’s probably the most Americana for its history.

The Graff rings really stands out. I love the oval and round halo ones on you. After that, Tiffany was pretty boring. You might one to try on some off brand for fun, you'll definitely get more bang for your buck and see what you can get.

I am. It sure if it is the lighting in the store but the graff rings were the most stunning and eye catching to me especially in the halos they just seemed to sparkle and shine so much. The Tiffany rings looked so boring they could just get deleted.

Why do all the rings you wear all angled and not straight when you wear them ?

The rings are too big! I have very slender fingers so typically floor models never fit 😅

You have great taste though I am surprised you folks didn’t go to Cartier to look at their engagement and wedding rings. Sorry to hear your experience at Tiffany & Co. was not a good one. I confess I love the Tiffany Solitaire setting myself if I were getting engaged to be married. I am looking forward to seeing the lucky ring choice as you will be wearing for the rest of your life be it from Graff or Harry Winston. The Harry Winston used to be the home of a San Francisco jewelry institution, Shreve & Co., located down the street on the same block. I think you two ought to check out Shreve & Co. too.

Thank you!! The Tiffany solitaire is such a classic style, you can never go wrong by picking that beauty 🥰 I actually have checked out Shreve! They have beautiful diamonds from hearts on fire, which those were even more expensive than HW and graff 😂 But I am definitely considering getting my ring from an AD as well like shreve or CH premier as it would help my boyfriend build his profile to get his dream watch!

what’s the point of vlogging “going engagement ring shopping”… yet you show us rings you’re not even planning to buy or is in your budget… we’re you really entertaining the $1 million ring? cmon.. just show us the rings that’s re actually in your price range… if you’re just there to show us rings they have we can also do the same by going to their website or google

I did buy one of the graff rings! And once again, not all prices are available on the website (esp. in the case of Harry Winston)! And not sure what’s wrong with trying all the rings available in the boutique…engagement ring shopping should be fun!
