1 harness 80% done one connector and hanger yet to go. All 22 or 24 gage wire. lots if new connectors and rerouted.
2 all white wheels doneski
3 Ashpan, reworked and fits much better, there is a way to get the firebox back into the cab.
4 Clean up the body cavity so the chassis assembly fits in. Got it done and tested.
5 rework the diode Blob, well it took two tries but I have a solid solution and mounted it with clearance. Also new SUBSCRIBER suggested SMD component and that looks very clean and neat. Will be ordered a few to test.
Well that was my list but I did take one morning to prove out the ball bearing axle idea. A it's looks very doable on idler axles today. the drive axle with gear will need more time and testing. sure looks good though.
I plan to button the guy up this week and then start the STL sharing. my next engine is already built but was stopped on a WiFi Controller with PWM. I was stumped on the hand held controller assembly and that was causing reliability issues. Then my poor wife tripped, fell and broke her foot. That was in Late Feb. So this project will take some relearning and I hope more Sunsctibers can help on this my 1st IOT for Next Gen Flyer.
OK heading back to my test bench. Dennis

Good idea smd diode , should work just as good.

Yes I was like smacking my forehead. Some fellow may help shrink some of the boards down and Know Arduino and WiFi. The next project is going to be really cool.

@@DennisMurphey Hey, it's me both the Arduino & Wifi guy as well as the bridge rectifier recommendation guy. (same guy for both) I'm flipping through your videos to see if I can piece together what it is you have all going on so I can shoot you an email for some additional clarification/ideas. But I can give an update here for now. What I think I know is as follows (feel free to correct me anywhere) So for the engine: Smoke module (comprises a fan and a heater coil, custom module made by you to generate smoke) Puff and break board (a board that takes input from the mechanical switch and the rectifier to determine if the smoke is puffing or steaming, the fan motor hooked up to a relay and looks like the heater coil is driven from a Mosfet or transitor tirggered via an optocoupler?) (I'm honestly not sure what the relay controls and what the optocoupler controls now suppose it could be either, heck that might not even be a optocoupler.) A reed switch that runs back to the tender to activate the sound module. (Chuffs when the reed switch activates and "steam/pop off" for the lack of a better term when the switch isn't recently activated) The Tender: A buck/boost that runs to the Drive motor? (8-9V DC) (Right side) A buck/boost that runs to the chuff board? (6-7V DC) (Left side) (both of the above appear to be based on the XL6009 controller) A smaller buck converter? (Guessing it powers the sound modules, maybe the fan?) Speaker (For the sound boards) A red board with a heat sink on the back that I am not sure what is. (motor controller?) A large white board under that that I assume is doing ac-dc power conversion? (This one really puzzles me Fan for cooling. I do have a few questions it seems this train still is configured on AC so I assume but is only 2 rails. How is forward neutral and reverse controlled? You mention a motor controller do you happen to know what model or any information on that? (Seems it is on the tender, I think it is the red heatsinked unidentified board?) What are the sound boards you are using? How are they triggered, the reed switch appears to be the trigger What is the white board on the tender? Oh and yes, also comparatively young. (late 30's) I did order an S scale train off of ebay today. I'll shoot you an email in the coming days with ideas and potential board designs.

@@Segphalt Not sure if you recomended bridge rectifiers too but i suggested the smd parts md8 or 6, i don't care if you were before or after me, but I hope we can all contribute in making better trains with all of our suggestions and experiences. I don't know much about arduino or wifi, i mainly work with industrial automations, so this is definitely something you can do better than me. I can design open source boards to make everything smaller and I know a lot of analog electronics which may or may not be helpful here.

@@kapioskapiopoylos7338Ah I recommended a rectifier that comes in both a dip and a soic package so it must have been you as it wasn't either he mentioned. I've had to give myself a primer on how these trains work while I wait for mine to get here. I look forward to designing boards to make this smaller and less of a "rats nest" (no offense) which should help reliability a lot but information is the best asset at this time.

I made 12 crimp connections anad thru 3 away. I get good on the 4th one built it always take 4 if i don't do it every day. Argh! I had new work glasses to pick up wed. Larger lens for safety and no distance just 3 lens stacked up, real close, reading, arms length. I could do stuff but not drive. I am hoping they help enlarge stuff in my luminated Magnifier.
